Booking through Thursday

Which is worse?

Finding a book you love and then hating everything else you try by that author, or

Reading a completely disappointing book by an author that you love?

For more Answers go here

First of all I was spammed...a lot, by someone named Ed who seems to plague blogger. So word verification is up, and that I approve comments before they can be shown.

Now to something else and fun to get my mind of having to erase a lot of spam.

This is a hard one, I think I will go with reading a disappointing book by an author I love. I love the author, perhaps I have all or his books, and I am waiting for the next one, and it just sucks. No that is never fun.

I do love Elizabeth Chadwick but so far I have read 2 books by her that I didn't like that much. One was ok, the other one was a pain to get through. Same with Jeanette Winterson, she has such lovely books, but then I came across one I couldn't get through. Same thing with Raymond E.Feist, I love, love did I say love, Magician. But this new series of his was rather boring and not the same magic about it.

Finding a book I love is always fun, and then I might try more. If those disappoint then they do, at least that author had one great book. Big yay for that.

  2. It is lovely when an author has one great book but I always want them to write more!

  3. Robin,
It so fun to discover a new author, like a hidden treasure :) More to read.

    Dot,
So true, I could read books by my fav authors forever :) i just fall for their language

  4. I've never read anything by Elizabeth Chadwick, but I plan to and it's nice to know that almost all her books are good.

    Love your header!

  5. Sorry about the spam. It seems like they're taking the blogs by storm now, hmph!

I don't mind reading new authors too... you never know what you'll find in them, eh? I always love a good surprise. But I've to admit I'll be greatly disappointed if a book I don't enjoy is written by my favourite author though.

  6. Violet,
I do recommend Chadwick, i have loved her for years :D My first one was the Great Hunt and I never looked back. A must for historical fans.

    Melody,
The spam do seem to be everywhere, so annoying. I am glad I haven't blogged for years cos it took some time deleting.

I love finding new authors every time, so fan :D

  7. I think a disappointing bok froma favourite author is worst! And I like jeanette Winterson but I am starting to think she writes the same thing over and over again.

  8. My answer in the second option.

I love finding new author too but don't really care if the other book by that author is dissapointing...but it's sucks when I find dissapointing book from the author I like

  9. I love discovering new authors. I think it's disappointing for me when I find a new author, get really stoked about their new book coming out, wait and wait for said new book, only to be so utterly disappointed in the book once I finally get my hands on it :).

    That's awful you were spammed.

  10. Jo,
That is bad, I haven't read enough of Winterson to know that but when I think about you do have a point

    Novroz,
It sure sucks, you expect more and then it's nothing :(

    Amy C,
I know, made me so made, grr had to erase a lot of spam.

That is bad, you wait and wait, read it, and are so disappointed. Not fun at all. The other way is so much better

  11. I agree with you on this one. If it's an author you love, then it's a personal let down in your relationship when he or she lays a stinker. You made me think of Stephanie Meyer, and how I loved the first three Twilights and then Breaking Dawn was a pooper, and now I don't want to touch anything else by her. I'll probably read The Host when I get it, but it'll be with distrust and reservation.

  12. The spammer is annoying me too.

I had a hard time picking an answer to this one, but I chose finding book I love and then hating everything else by that author. Mainly because after reading one that I love, I go out and get the author's entire backlist so that can be costly only to discover that the author was a one time thing for me.

  13. Good Morning Blodeuedd:

I too love finding new to me authors and being delighted by their writing. I think every author who writes proliferatively can have an off book from time to time.

What is disappointing is when I'm engossed in a series and the quality of the work steadily deteriorates, then I do give up and won't return to that author's work.

Sorry about the spam - ick, so annoying...

    Warm Regards
    L

  14. Thekoolaidmum,
Oh yes Meyer...I didn't like New Moon at all. Book 1 and 4 were the ones I liked. The first one cute, the last one freaky but a bad ending.
I have my reservations about the Host too.

    Yvonne,
    Grrr at the spammer!
It was hard to choose, but are equal in a way, but I see your point. Good answer :)

    Lea,
So true, they can't be excellent all the time, and therefore I forgive them always :)
But if it keeps getting worse and worse then I think like you I am bound to give up on that author.

Sighs, spam, did not make my day.

  15. I also hate it when I find an author I like and the more I read their books, the more similiar the plots are, and then I just lose interest.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hi Jess,
So true, so true. The plots never evolve and in the end you loose interest

  17. Ed is making his rounds! Another blogger mentioned him.

    My post is up!

  18. Bluestocking,
I just saw someone mentioning him too, spam on almost every post I had *sighs*

  19. I agree. I hate to be disappointed by a writer I liked. Especially when you wait for their newest release!

  20. I have never heard of the spammer Ed. Good to block him out. I shal keep a close eye. I just tried to read a Joanne Harris book, whom I normally love, but I gave up on this one and was so disappointed.

  21. Linda,
I know, you wait and wait, just to get disappointed. That whole build up just turns out to nothing.

    Scrap girl,
You look out for a person called ed, he spans everything. In Chinese it seems so at least i could read it.
I really must try Harris one day, hoepfully not that bad one then

  22. That spam has been going around lately!

I love finding new authors, but seem to be more forgiving of a bad book by a fave author.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I found Ed on someone else's today and warned them. When did you do a scrapbooking article - I am intrigued. Do you scrap yourself?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Melissa,
    It sure has, very annoying.
new authors are always a fun thing to find :)

    Scrap girl,
Good of you to warn them. I got one spam one day, next day it was on every post!

I did the article some weeks ago, I interviewed this friend who had just started scrapping. But I haven't tried it myself

  25. I've seen Ed around too..boo!

I think reading a disappointing book by an author you love is the worst!!! Breaking Dawn comes to mind. Otherwise, I have been pretty lucky:)

    ReplyDelete
  26. mandi,
    yes ed is evil!

Another BD disappointed person, I liked it cos it was freaky, but the end was too sweet and fast

  27. I liked your answer and agree. Happy BTT!

  28. Hi Blodeuedd!

Blogger just went a little crazy and I think it wiped out my comment so I'll try again.

I hate it when an author I love writes a book that I can put down. I get disappointed when this happens, but I always give them another chance. Everyone is entitled to a bad book. I always wonder why their editor or publisher didn't caught it though....don't you?

Too bad about Spammer Ed, he's really been making the rounds here on the blogosphere, I hate to put up the word verification, but if this continues, I will have to do it too.

    Dottie :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Charli,
    Happy BTT :D

    Dottie,
Yes Ed has sure been making the rounds, word verification is not a fav of mine but a must. Together with moderation for the time being.

Every author have their bad days, and yes why do not the publisher see it. Maybe they are too blind in the end.

  30. What matters to me is whether I'll venture into another book of a new author. It's about building the credit.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Reading a disappointing book by an author I love is the absolute worst! And thank goodness it rarely ever happens.

I can think of two cases right now of this happend to me: 'Breaking Dawn' by Stephenie Meyer and 'Lover Enshrined' by J.R. Ward.

Sorry about all the spam. :(

    (((hugs))) VFG

    ReplyDelete
  32. Matt,
Thanks for stopping by, and you sure have a point.

    VFG,
It is sure horrible, I always have suck high hopes. And I couldn't agree more on lover Enshrined, what a disappointment.

    Spam is never fun :(

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like what Matt said and I might add that if a new author-to-me hit a home run I'll certainly read their next book. when a fave author puts out a dud, I'll forgive and move on to their next one but if they continue to disappoint I find I just move on to someone else!!

  34. I just felt the ending to BD was anti-climatic (let's talk it out??) and Bella got everything she wanted - boyfriend, kid, turned to vamp, dad and mom, jacob still in her life...I could go on:)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Staci,
That is just the way it is :)
And then there are how many times can you forgive your fav author if nothing good comes along.

    Mandi,
I know, I felt like, ok big fight, wohoo, blood and terror, and wtf? Nothing, a bit of talk and everyone lived, went home and lived happily ever after. Too sudden,

  36. It was so hard for me to decide, and I keep re-thinking it!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Mealibris,
It's often like that with these questions, so hard to decide and stick with that :)
