Didn't get much in the mail this week, not even junk mail. Very strange, but did get a book and that is always lovely :D

Polar boy by Sandy Fussell
Won over at We love YA

Not loving the cover, but it does look like a YA book. And I do love historicals.

Set in a 13th century polar community, a young boy's destiny transforms him from a frightened child into a courageous hero.

What turned up in your mailbox this week?

  1. Hi Blodeuedd!

This one kind of looks like Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, kind of action adventure-ish. Boy struggles against the wild. Loved it when I was in school, and again when I re-read it with my kids. If it's anything like Hatchet, it will probably be good.

  9. The cover reminds me of Lost in the Barrens — a Canadian Classic, it was one of my favourites in school.

  12. The book sounds like it will be really interesting. I've never read anything based on the 13th century polar community before. Not sure about the cover. I guess it matches the story probably.

  13. Dar,
I am not loving the cover, and it looks very YA.

I have sure never read anything about that either, but I have read something about that region placed thousands of years back...I should re-read

  14. I'm sure the cover would turn me away from the book, which is too bad because I know that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. I hope that it's a good one.

  15. Hi Alyce,
So true, shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but I know I do, and it's sure a shame

  16. It is so hard to NOT let the cover impact your feelings about a book. :) I sometimes put off reading a book because of the cover, just to finally pick it up and discover that it is great! I love the idea of that book and look forward to hearing how you like it. Sounds like one my niece might really like.

  17. I am trying to get away from judging books by their covers because I do it all of the time. :) I am sure I am missing out on so many good books because of it.
I agree with Dottie, the Gary Paulsen books are really good: I have read Hatchet and Brian's Winter. :)
