2009: The Year in review

This was truly the best book year ever, I found so many new authors, great books and met cool new people. I may have started the blog in December but it was in 2009 it took off.

So why don't we have a little look at the great books of 2009.
I am inventing some categories of my own so all the good books have room.

Best book of the year: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Best book about war: The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway

Best laughs: Mucho Caliente! by Fransesca Prescott

Best fictional book about a real person: Dancer by Colum Mcann

Best book I passed by and found out was great: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie society by Mary Ann Shaffer

Best YA book: Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Best language and quotes: Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

Best fantasy: A Darkness Forged in Fire by Chris Evans

Best historical: Cleopatra's Daughter by Michelle Moran

Best follow-up book: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Best genre mix: Soulless by Gail Carriger

Best urban "rural" fantasy: On The Edge by Ilona Andrews

Best urban fantasy: Moon Called by Patrica Briggs

Best going on the keeper shelf book: Poison Study by Maria V Snyder

Best "kept me on my seat" book: Stray by Rachel Vincent

Best cover from the books I have read: Wild heart by Lori Brighton

What can I say, Urban fantasy and YA rules this book year. Perhaps that is what I will go for next year then.

Worst book, well trust me, I started SO many books this year and you will never hear about them.

But as one example:
The book that made me angry and upset: The Kingmaking by Helen Hollick

I have reviewed a lot of books, I have had guest posts by authors and I have held contests. And I hope to give you all that next year too. I actually have a guest post coming up in January, and in February I will have a bday bash.

Until then:

HAPPY NEW YEAR

  3. What a great "Best of" list you've got Blodeuedd. I only have a handful on the shelves from your list but I'm sure Suzanne Collins is going to be read in 2010. And Ilona Andrews with On The Edge, I'm kind of hoping they will make my top...list of 2010 :)

Have a fabulous New Years Blodeuedd, may your dreams come true in 201o :)

  28. Loved the Guernsey book as well, but I'm afraid I haven't heard of many of the others (you can tell I stick to one genre)... I would really like to know what offended you about the Hollick book, as I had planned to read hers... email me if you get the chance: arleighjohnson@gmail.com

  29. Amy
Oh yes the Guernsey was such a lovely surprise this year :D Perhaps this year you will get it back lol

    Donna,
I am happy that so many different kinds of books made it to my list.
    Happy new year!

    Arleigh,
    Emailed you.
But that is why I like your blog, it is all about the historicals, I just can't do that, would cost me too much. I guess that is why I had to broaden my horizon :)

  30. Wonderful divers list, sweetie! I agree with you on the books I've read as well: Guernsey and The Cellist of Sarajevo - except on Angel's Game. I thought it was way over the top, I enjoyed his first novel much more (I don't know the English title, probably the Shadows of the Wind...)
    Thanks for your fabulous tast!
