In a world of danger and deception, she walks the line--between seductive passion and scandalous murder... Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over ten years on the force, she's seen it all--and knows her survival depends on her instincts. And she's going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire--and a suspect in Eve's murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it's up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about--except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.
My thoughts:
Not the review to write after a long long workday, which also was mostly spent outside, in the strange May heat wave. But I will try to string a few words together.
Do I love Roarke now? No, I can't see it. He was all over here, did I get why he found her attractive? Nope. I never saw the passion or felt anything between them. Did I get why she went for him? God no. She was a cop, bad bad call there.
But it was not bad. Nope (even if I kept thinking of the show Castle), it was thrilling, suspenseful. I wondered about the killer. I wondered about Eve and Roarke (not that I cared much but still.) It was one of those books that are good, but that I still wont buy more of. It felt like a good one time deal.

Eh...sorry that this was a one-hit deal. :/ Some series are like that. hahaha. Have a cookie to relax you after a long day of work *hands cookie*
ReplyDeleteGood, but not in the way that it was good enough to buy more
DeleteI have some of these books, like 34 books I think? yes and I haven't read any, I should try.
ReplyDeleteYup...A LOT. That is why I am thinking nope
DeleteI've still wanted to read at least one of these. One day! :D
ReplyDeleteOne day :)
DeleteHmmmm, where have I been? I didn't even know she wrote as J.D. Robb. This doesn't sound too bad though.
ReplyDeleteShe has written over 30 books like that ;)
DeleteSorry to hear you didn't like it that much. I've fallen to much behind with these and I'm trying to catch up this year.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
DeleteOn the plus side, you really only have to read the first 15-20 maybe (if that) to get the most interesting parts of the story arc.
ReplyDeleteOh, only that many? That's nothing then ;)
DeleteI've never read any of this series and it's not been near the top of my must read list. Still don't think I'll rush to read it!
ReplyDeleteDon't rush it. I mean I liked the story, but the characters, no I did not get them. They would have lowered the grade but I felt kind
DeleteI actually liked this series, although admittedly I stopped reading them around #17..LOL
ReplyDeleteAround 17, oh bad you ;)
DeleteI agree! I totally don't get the Roarke thing but I do love the mysteries in the 3 that I have read :)
ReplyDeleteI did like that, I mean the story was good, the characters not so much. But it
Delete's like this new show I started to watch. The main character is a total asshole, but the series is good
I've read one of these books a long time ago Sorry this one was kind of meh.
ReplyDeleteIt was good, parts of it
DeleteAaah, bummer. I've not tried this author. And hope you feel better after all that work. Try to get some rest.
ReplyDeleteThanks :) I took it easy, long day since it was "graduation day"
DeleteThe mysteries are amazing and the characters develop more and more in each book. Even though you won't be reading more at least you can say you read the famous Roarke now ;)
ReplyDeleteI have, I saw...signs of something in him. But mostly I was all, creepy!
DeleteSorry you did not like this first book. I do hope you give Eve and Roarke another chance. I love them, but the series is not for everyone. I love the audios too.
ReplyDeleteIt's just, buy no, borrow? Yeah maybe, if they could be found but the library had like part 30
DeleteI love this series! Sorry you don't care for them, but hey, we can't all like the same thing!!! I just finished Book five on audio a few hours ago!!
ReplyDeleteCool :) I do think they might get better, but there are SO many
DeleteNot going to continue on hey, so many friends love this series ... but I haven't started
ReplyDeleteI wanted to give it a go cs of Roarke
Delete500, yup something like that ;) It's just too way daunting
ReplyDeleteI've read a couple by Nora Roberts but none of the JD Robb books. Not sure I'll ever get to them...
ReplyDeleteI have only read 1 Nora books, but that one I did not like at all. It was an oldie
DeleteI remember loving this back when it first came out but I lost track somewhere along the way. I tried to get my husband to read it and he thought it was awful!
ReplyDeleteI do not think I could get BF to read it...nope. Watch the movie, yes, if one was made ;)
DeleteYou are SO right about this cover. Boresville. It sounds like there were a lot of issue with this, but the fact that this reminded you of Castle has me interested now. I love that show!
ReplyDeleteYou know, female cop, hot rich guy ;) Castle is just funnier but there was this Castle vibe over it
DeleteI've come across many one hit wonders myself. I was always afraid of this series because it's set in the future. I'm skeerd of sci-fi. ;)
ReplyDeleteThere was hardly any sci-fi at all. I mean oh there was mentions of a space station and shuttles, but it was all low key
DeleteSo many people I know LOVE this series, and especially Roarke-me not so much :/ I'm glad to find I'm not the only one, and will NEVER have Roarke as my Book BF, or continue w/ this series. *High five*
ReplyDelete*high five*
DeleteHe was a bit of a creepy stalker at one time. Not sexy at all.
The covers are all a bit boring, but give Eve & Roarke another chance. I enjoyed the others so much more then book one.
ReplyDeleteI do wonder, but I do not wanna buy more. The library has some, like the 20-30 in the series
Deletethe covers just want to sell her name :) i haven't read anything by her or nora actually.
ReplyDeleteI have read this one and another one that was really bad
DeleteI am very sorry you did not really like the characters. This is one of my very favourite series out there. If you come to Holland, you can borrow my books, no problem. The covers are never exciting, but you do recognize them at a glance.
ReplyDeleteWhen I come to Holland..and stay for a month ;) I will totally read all of them
DeleteI have this book on my TBR since ever... I think it'll stay there a while lot longer.
ReplyDeleteGood choice :)
DeleteAll the covers are boring. Roarke isn't great in this one. He gets better. Promise. Read another one. Please!!!
ReplyDeleteOh....no :/ I just do not want to buy another one when my wishlist is HUGE. The library has the later ones so...
DeleteThe first book wasn't the greatest but I bought the audiobooks like 25 books in the series all at the same time as a bargain deal so I listened on even though I wasn't enamoured with this book. And it proved to be a good series. And yes the covers are not pretty at all.
ReplyDeleteThat is quite the bargain 0_0
ReplyDeleteHm...must check the library for audio
