Snagging a marriage proposal for her client while on an all-expenses-paid vacation should be a simple job for Ciel Halligan, aura adaptor extraordinaire. A kind of human chameleon, she’s able to take on her clients’ appearances and slip seamlessly into their lives, solving any sticky problems they don’t want to deal with themselves. No fuss, no muss. Big paycheck.

This particular assignment is pretty enjoyable... that is, until Ciel’s island resort bungalow is blown to smithereens and her client’s about-to-be-fiancé is snatched by modern-day Vikings. For some reason, Ciel begins to suspect that getting the ring is going to be a tad more difficult than originally anticipated.

Going from romance to rescue requires some serious gear-shifting, as well as a little backup. Her best friend, Billy, and Mark, the CIA agent she’s been crushing on for years—both skilled adaptors—step in to help, but their priority is, annoyingly, keeping her safe. Before long, Ciel is dedicating more energy to escaping their watchful eyes than she is to saving her client’s intended. Suddenly, facing down a horde of Vikings feels like the least of her problems.

My thoughts:
SPOILERS!!! Back away if you do not want spoilers. Honestly the only way I can talk about this book is about spoilers.

I did not especially like this book. It was silly, the plot made NO sense. I almost fell asleep while reading this book. The sun told me to rest and not read.

SPOILERS! Ok you are on your own now!

Ok, first. It's called a sexy romp on the cover. HA! Sorry if I laugh myself silly, sexy what? In the beginning I get the impression she is your average kind of girl. She is drooling over the guy she wants a proposal out of. I am not gonna get into that now. Anyway, there are like 3 kisses in the book and that it is. And then she confesses that the one time she did have sex, she might not have sex at all. So where is the sexy romp promised? I do not mind her being inexperienced, good for you. It's just, she goes from siren to school girl.

Ok, the paranormal aspect. In away there is none at all. She can take the "shape" of others and helps them in their life, for money of course. That is it. Pretty boring.

Since I speak it I have to mention it. Why do these Swedes have a ja at the end of every sentence? No sorry, this is not some stupid movie with a girl called Inga. Also if you are gonna use a foreign language do it right. Some other things were off too.

The plot. OMG. I was promised vikings. No sorry man, there are no vikings. There are evil bad Swedes. Ohh, ok I can deal. No sorry, they are the most stupid Swedes ever. WHY is the CIA even bothering? Omg, do you have nothing else do do? These Swedish vikings are gonna *drumroll* Throw shampoo with steroids at men!!!! OMG!!!!! EVILLLLLL!!!! *enormous eyeroll* yes that is the evil plot of the book. Honest to Thor.

Back to Ciel our heroine. I saved her for last because she is, sigh. Ok I do not need ass-kick but she is pathetic. She has 2 gorgeous men in her life, her fake cousin and some guy she lusts after. All they do is practically stalking her to see that she does not get into trouble. I have a hard time thinking that she has her own company when these two are stalking her all the time. They are even on that island with her, she is not even with the client's man. No she is with one of them. Come one now. All she does is get into trouble, and rush into things and get kidnapped god knows how many times.

The book could have been good. But Ciel so perfect while being not perfect at all. I never got Billy and Marc. The plot was beyond stupid and blah blah whatever. Also they NEVER tell her what is going on, so you can really blame her for doing stupid things.

Some things did save it times, cos it was so silly I had to laugh at how stupid it was. So it gets a 2 cos of that. But waste of money.

  1. This review made me snort.
And I might even give the book a second chance because of it. I threw it across the room after the first few pages where the cousin kept blocking the heroine in doing anything because she's a fragile woman and he is a chauvinistic jerk.

  3. Your review made me laugh. I read In a Fix when it came out and really was not particularly impressed by it either. Lots of good urban fantasy out there, don't need to continue with this one fortunately!
