To defeat a dark evil, they must face his family’s past…
Bastian Carlisle, the Earl of Weymouth, doesn’t believe in ghosts. Even though tragedy and mysterious hauntings have driven his family away from his ancestral home, Stormclyffe Hall, he is determined to restore the castle to its former glory. His plans are disrupted when a stubborn American shows up on his doorstep hoping to pry into his family’s tragic history.
Jane Seyton, an American graduate student, is convinced there’s more to the tragedy of Stormclyffe Hall than history claims. Ever the scholar, she is determined to discover the truth, even if it means putting up with the arrogant, yet sexy, Bastian.
Although Bastian wants nothing to do with the pushy American, it soon becomes clear that something evil is in the house—and that something is targeting both Jane and Bastian. The two must join forces to purge the ghosts of Stormclyffe Hall once and for all—even as they try to fight a physical attraction between them that grows more and more impossible to deny.

My thoughts:
This was one of those I just know I would have dnfed if I had read it. But the magic with a good narrator is that it gets better. Still, there were plothole kind of things and more. This one really scraped by thanks to the lovely Victoria Aston.
Bastian is a cursed Earl. And he does not believe in ghosts or any such nonsense....but in every generation, mothers, fathers, or kids die violently...right. Silly. Instead he is a his castle and wanting to rebuild it. Even though everyone keeps saying the place is cursed. I would have sold it.
Jane is writing about Stormclyffe and comes to see it. Why it took her 6 years I do not know. I mean if she loved it that much. And he is all no, do not come here, like her dissertation would make all the papers and ghost hunters would descend on him. Lol, do not be silly, no one is gonna care.
They meet and there are sparks! But alas, all women who love the Earls die!
Also
spoiler: why the witch just did not possess someone to get her Earl I do not know
And he was all I will seduce her and she will be happy to leave. Omg just tell her that she can not look at the castle or you will call the cops.
It was a rather silly tale to be honest.
Narrator
Victoria Aston
She did a good job and kept me listening. All thanks to her.
AT least it was a good idea to listen to it!
ReplyDeleteThat it was
DeleteYou already know that I can't do the audio reads(lol), but I'm glad you found some redeeming qualities to keep you engaged. Hugs and Happy Friday! RO
ReplyDeleteThat I do ;=D
DeleteIsn't it so true that sometimes the Narrator will make or break a book. I've also experienced it the opposite way where the read was Fab so I bought the audio and wished I had saved my money.
ReplyDeleteYes it sure can be. I listened to this book and I am sure I would have liked it in print
DeleteI've read and enjoyed Lauren Smith, so maybe I'll check this out. I'll be sure to do the audio, though. :)
ReplyDeleteBut if you otherwise like her books then I am sure you'd like it in print too. But yes audio best
DeleteA cursed earl. An intrepid American. Sparks. Yawn.
ReplyDeleteYou would not like it one bit
DeleteOh yes. She sure saved it
ReplyDeleteAt least the narrator made it worth the read for you.
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
A saving grace
DeleteSometimes a good narrator makes all the difference. Too bad this one had some problems with the story though.
ReplyDeleteIt could have been a lot better
DeleteNow I want to try this narrator, and yes sometimes I think a good narrator can make an ok book a solid four.
ReplyDeleteShe did not manage that though, she made a bad book ok
DeleteI'm not a big romance reader, without that aspect though the book actually sounds pretty good, lol!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
LOL
DeleteLOL. I liked your spoiler. Why ruin a story with a logical reason for keeping her out of the castle.
ReplyDeleteLol, right!
DeleteIt is nice that a good narrator can get you through some of those tougher to read books. I know I've had several like that.
ReplyDeleteMelanie @ Hot Listens & Books of My Heart
I totally know it would have been a dnf, gotta love a good narrator
Deletethis looks silly, but different and I think in a way id prob enjoy it XD
