Audio Review: The Crepes of Wrath - Sarah Fox

When Marley McKinney’s aging cousin, Jimmy, is hospitalized with pneumonia, she agrees to help run his pancake house while he recovers. With its rustic interior and syrupy scent, the Flip Side Pancake House is just as she pictured it—and the surly chef is a wizard with crêpes. Marley expects to spend a leisurely week or two in Wildwood Cove, the quaint, coastal community where she used to spend her summers, but then Cousin Jimmy is found murdered, sprawled on the rocks beneath a nearby cliff.

After she stumbles across evidence of stolen goods in Jimmy’s workshop, Marley is determined to find out what’s really going on in the not-so-quiet town of Wildwood Cove. With help from her childhood crush and her adopted cat, Flapjack, Marley sinks her teeth into the investigation. But if she’s not careful, she’s going to get burned by a killer who’s only interested in serving up trouble.

My thoughts:
My first cozy mystery on audio. And honestly, it is something else when you hear of a murder than when you read it. At least for me. Through out the whole book I was all, poor Jimmy! Why did they have to kill poor Jimmy!?

Marley is helping her gran's cousin when he is the hospital. He owns a pancake house and I guess these people really love their pancakes since the place is still standing (but they do have this awesome chef that makes the best pancakes). And then Jimmy is found murdered! How could they?! Sure I never even met Jimmy alive, but what a way to go.

Marley was nice and most importantly, curious. You can not have a cozy mystery otherwise. And it does not make it better when weird things happen around her, who would not be curious and want to go to the bottom of things.

And there is a hot guy too, if anyone was wondering. Of course who has time for that when strange things happens and her cousin was killed.

Conclusion:
I enjoyed it.

Narrator Marguerite Gavin
I guess her voice fit cozy mystery books. Well I have only listened to her once, but she fitted the genre if that makes sense. She did a good job with voices, pace and everything. And she sure made me care for Jimmy, lol.

  1. I'm the world's worst with audiobooks and end up falling asleep. I do however love a book that has anything to do with cooking and mystery. Everyone says these cozy books are pretty good. Great review! Hugs...

  10. I read this as an e-book. I enjoyed it. I wonder if I would have liked it as an audio. Sometimes it's hard for me to concentrate on murder mysteries on audio.
