TMST

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post on Rainy Day Ramblings where Rainy discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.

February 5th: What are some big misconceptions you had about blogging when you started?

I am not starting the year of well. I am so bad with these lately. Again, my mind is blank. But then I went to bed with a sore throat yesterday and today it has plagued me all day. Blergh, all I want is rest but alas, I have a bouncy kid.

Honestly I had no clues about anything when I started. I lived in my own bubble. I had not ideas of what blogging about books was like 10 years when I started. And I never got any ideas that were proven wrong either. Maybe cos I jumped in so early? Who knows. I have blogged here in my own bubble for a long lone time. I never grew. I only stayed as I ever was.

    1. I know of the big ones of course, but that feels like it was people who came later.

  4. I didn't have too many misconceptions but I think there weren't any back then?? It was so new that there were no *rules* or competition or even ways to customize your blog or check on stats. At least not that I was aware of for years. ARC's weren't really a thing either.

And i'm glad because I didn't feel any pressure when I started.

    1. Right, I feel we are so old in this that that all came later.

I had no idea that there even were ARCS, I just wanted a blog and to find likeminded people

  5. I hope you are well soon, a lively toddler doesn't let a mother rest. Like you I didn't have misconceptions - just went in.

  7. I hope you are feeling better soon. I did think that I would attract a lot of readers right away when I started blogger (which did not happen).

  8. I never knew what to expect to begin with so I don't know how I would answer this question. But I guess I used to overthink my reviews, wondering if I'm being too negative/positive or not negative/positive enough, but now I find I don't sweat it as much :)

  9. Feel better.

I think blogging is such a personal preference kind of thing that its tough to have the wrong idea about it. I do remember being surprised when it came out that some book bloggers were paid reviewers and had paid sponsor posts since I thought everyone just had personal blogs, but I don't remember being surprised about everything else.

  10. Sure hope you're feeling better soon, and I'm sending some healing hugs your way. I didn't have a clue to what I was doing when I first starting blogging.(lol) As time passed, I've just been grateful for the opportunity to share some thoughts on domestic violence or trivia. Overall, it became a great venture to meet new friends and share ideas. Great topic! Hugs...RO

  11. That is a weird question... I don't think I had any misconceptions! I mean... I didn't know anything so I didn't know what to expect.

  12. I didn't know much either. Loupe just asked me if I wanted to write some reviews for Hot Listens and the rest is history. I don't have huge numbers, but I have the group of people that I visit and they visit me. That's enough for me. :-)
