TMST: Pricing

February 19th: Book Pricing: Who much will you pay for an ebook? A hard copy? A paperback?

Hardback? Nope. I will wait that damn year to get print and I will rage against the sky, but I just can't pay that much for hardback when I know it will get cheaper.

Paperback, well sometimes they never get any cheaper. There is this Lisa Shearin that never gets under 15 euros and I am sure it will stay on my wishlist forever. If I do not give it as a suggestion for SO to buy me for xmas or something. But the cheaper ones come first. The 8 to 10 euros ones.

For me to actually buy it in a store, well it has to be under what an online store would charge and they never are so I never buy them.

Ebooks, ugh, why would I pay a lot for something that amazon could like steal back from me. Ebooks should be under 5 and that is still a lot. See, this is why I do not buy ebooks.

    1. I just do not see them as real books so I can not pay a real price

  2. I don't buy many books so, when I do, I don't really pay attention to the price. Shame on me.

  3. Yep, it's hard for me to pay more than $6 or $7 for an ebook. Most of the ones I buy are daily deals for less than $3.

  4. You can sometimes find deals by buying used hardbacks on amazon or B&N that's what I do sometimes. I usually have the e-book though because that's how I read all my copies.

  5. I've bought hardbacks but only for 2 series that I've been reading for 20 yers. Most times I'mm pay .99 for an ebook but I try to get the free ebooks on Amazon or win them or get ARC's from NetGalley.

  6. It seems that all of us voracious readers won’t shell out the big bucks for books. Makes me wonder who is paying those kinds of prices?

  7. I usually wait for sales. I do buy ebooks but I also use my library a lot. The only time I pay full price for Hardcovers is when I am able to go to an author event and get it signed.

  8. I admit I will pay for a book I really want, but if I can get it at the library so much the better. Kindle books have really climbed in price.

  9. I usually only pick up ebooks when they're on sale, because at full price on amazon sometimes they're even more than a hardcopy which is ridiculous.

  10. I read too much to pay full price for books in any format. It's sales, freebies, giveaways, and the library for me over the last few years.
I have heard most people do a $1 per 100 pages when it comes to ebooks for their rule of thumb. I'm with you about waiting for the paperback to release over hardback prices though I will get hardbacks at library sales or outlet shops when I encounter them.

    1. 1 per 100 pages seem about right. And then you see those 15 dollar ones and are just n way

  12. Interesting topic, yesterday I saw a review on Goodreads for a book that I absolutely loved. The reviewer rated the book low, maybe it was a two star, because of the ebook price, they enjoyed the read itself and thought the author was wonderful but the price drove the rating.

Which had me thinking about book prices. I adore hardcover books and if I read one I love and know I'll want to read again, I'll buy a hardcover copy. For paperbacks I'm good with the 7.99 price and even good with the higher trade paperback prices if they have quality cover art. But paying more than $6-7 for an ebook? Ehhh, not going to do it. Libraries for the win!!

      Libraries for the win!!!

Books are actually really expensive here now when I think of it :/

  13. I pretty much only buy kindle books, but I understand what you mean. Typically I buy them for $5 US or less. I think I only buy paper copies at book signings now.

  14. For me it all depends on the author. I just paid $5 for a novella for and author that I love. But an author I don't know, the ebook would have to be a much lower price. I do try to get books from the library as much as possible.
