I read this one years ago and enjoyed it. This time around, well, no, not as good as I remember it being. But then it was like I did not remember anything, but when I read the words I remembered everything, and some books are just not as fun the second time around.

I also see that I only read 5 and I did not like the 5th, hmm, the library did not get any more.

But ok, these are fun. What if the worlds had dragons and used them in battle? Hornblower meets dragon riders!

I like Lawrence, I like Temeraire. And now I do wonder how it all played out, I really have to check if the library ever got more.

So yes do give them a go.

Aerial combat brings a thrilling new dimension to the Napoleonic Wars as valiant warriors ride mighty fighting dragons, bred for size or speed. When HMS Reliant captures a French frigate and seizes the precious cargo, an unhatched dragon egg, fate sweeps Captain Will Laurence from his seafaring life into an uncertain future – and an unexpected kinship with a most extraordinary creature. Thrust into the rarified world of the Aerial Corps as master of the dragon Temeraire, he will face a crash course in the daring tactics of airborne battle. For as France’s own dragon-borne forces rally to breach British soil in Bonaparte’s boldest gambit, Laurence and Temeraire must soar into their own baptism of fire

  1. hmmm I'm always curious as to why a book doesn't stand the test of time. Are you a more sophisticated reader now, what was the problem. Thanks for sharing! xo

    1. I did re-read my all time fav, and sure I saw its faults and that time has passed, but damn if it still did not bring all the feels and I loved it.

      But this one, no

  4. Oooh, I have this one collecting dust as an ARC that someone gave me as a gift. I must read it. Yeah, sometimes the shine is off the second time around. :)

  5. Oh I loved this one. I stopped reading the series after a while though, I think it was also around book 5 for me as well. The books just got worse and worse :\

  6. It's interesting isn't it that sometimes a reread just isn't as good as it was the first time around. I guess its us that changes!

  7. I do need to give this series a go. I adore Novik's Spinning Silver and Uprooted and have had her dragons on my radar, just never actually gotten around to picking one up.

    2. It was, I felt, very different from Uprooted, which was phenomenal. When I picked up Spinning Silver I'd expected something similar to Uprooted and it took me a while to adjust and get into Miryem's story, but then I fell in love with the world and the intricacies of the rules that bound the characters, not exactly the characters themselves, and I ended up loving the book! Truly a different reading experience from Uprooted.

  8. Isn't it funny how your feelings can change on a book? Bummer you didn't like this one as much as the first go round.
