Resistance is Futile - Jenny T.Colgan

There will be spoilers, cos I am upset.

Paperback, 343 pages
Published June 2nd 2016 by Orbit (first published May 28th 2015)
Sci.fi
Own

Connie's smart. She's funny. But when it comes to love, she's only human.

As a brilliant mathematician with bright red hair - Connie's used to being considered a little unusual. But when she's recruited for a top-secret code-breaking project, nothing can prepare her for working with someone quite as peculiar as Luke.

I feel this was a bit false advertising, I mean look at that cover, Kinsella says it was funny and romantic. Well, I will bloody well tell you now, there is no HEA. I repeat, there is no HEA, oh and he dies. He bloody well dies.

Yes, I feel liked I hope and thought something then wtf.

Ok so a bunch of smart people are put in a "dungeon" to figure something out.

Stuff happens.

Connie falls for Luke

And he dies

Wtf.

I hate this book

Booooooooo

  1. GRRRR I HATE when that happens, see see this is why if I don't know the author I read the last chapter first if it's touted as a romance. When hubs was battling cancer 15 yrs ago I had to put down my bloody guts thrillers and start reading romance right I need an HEA because yes hubs has cancer. Well I read a book Called Cloud Nine and in the end yes there is death and from what Cancer Grrrr, I went through boxes of tissues, had nightmares. It should be ILLEGAL to call something romance if there is no HEA. There I'm stepping down from the soapbox ;-)

    1. Good soapbx speech! And I totally know what you are saying, also do not watch that new movie Last Christmas, it is NOT a romance,

I am really disappointed these days in books and movies that do not get this

  3. I have serious trust issues lately with these illustrated covers and being duped.

I'm sorry it happened to you.

  5. LOL! Well, I don't think I'd be reading this one anyway so I don't mind knowing how it ends. It does look like a fun book from the cover though, but it actually sounds like a pretty big downer.

    1. The thing is, even if I had known it was not a romance it would still not be a good one

  7. Never trust a book that says it's about a woman mathematician. Romance writers have NO IDEA about math or about being an educated woman.

    2. I miss the romance covers that were proud to be romance. Now it seems they're trying to masquerade as commercial reads. Guess I just have to wait for the next marketing fad to come.

    3. Yes! I know they could be cheesy, but they were romance. This is...nothing

  9. Well damn, that doesn't sound like a good ending at all.

  10. How can the book claim to be "Quirky, fun and romantic" (on the cover) when the hero dies?! Very misleading. And no thank you. I don't read for a crappy ending. :(

  11. Sophie Kinsella's books had been a hit and miss (mostly miss) for me, so I'm not even at all interested in reading anymore of her books.

    P.S.

You mention Last Christmas as not having HEA. PLEASE EXPLAIN. I have an outstanding date with my husband to go see this movie (which we have been procrastinating for the last two weekends now). So I'm on a need to know basis!
