TMST

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post on Rainy Day Ramblings where Rainy discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.

May 19th: If a book disappoints you by an author that you read for the first time, how likely are you to try that author again?

It happens, everyone can have a bad book, it happens to authors that I love too.

Of course it depends on HOW bad...

But even authors who I go all come on! I still try again, and still hate so yes it is not always a good idea. But then there are those that i try again and suddenly  I like it.

I find it worse when I like a series and then they get worse and worse, that does not make me want to read more. But then I am a sucker for punishment

  1. Oh yes it happens but for me if it's an author I haven't read before I'm not usually apt to try again

  2. Years and years ago when that happened, I would still go back and try another book. That actually happened with JR Ward. Once I went back, I was hooked! Now, I don't really have that kind of time or patience, so I usually won't try again. The exception is if another book blogger recommends it and gives a really good review. Hope you guys are doing well! Hugs, RO

    1. I do not really have the patience either, and when I do go back it mostly fails. Funny that

  3. You're right, it depends on how bad. There are probably only a couple of authors I've gone ahead and tried another book. Sad to say, but true. Once burned and all that.

    1. True, once burned!
When I think of books I have gone back to I do only remember one author

  4. I'm always willing to give an author another chance. Even my favorite authors have written a dud every once in a while. I think it just serves as a reminder that everyone is human!

    1. I agree, everyone can have a bad book, but when they keep getting worse then I will leave

  5. It really depends on why I didn't like it. If the writing is awful then no but if it' just wasn't my cup of tea and the next book is more in line with my tastes then yeah.

  7. It depends on what I didn't like. I have a few authors that I haven't tried again after not enjoying the first book I tried.

  8. I pretty much turf an author if I read them for the first time and don't like their book. Occasionally a few years later I might try again but not often.

  9. Chances are probably lower that I'll read the author again, but I guess it depends on the reasons why I was disappointed in the first place. If I didn't like the story but the description of their next book sounds very different and amazing, sure I'll give them another try. But if it was something in the author's style or something I object to in their writing, then no way.

    1. I have learned my lesson about an author now, lesson learned!

  10. If its just a character or a certain trope/element that is just in this book, I'll try again, but if it is an issue that will crop up again, then probably not.

    1. Yeah if an issue keeps cropping up then no thanks

  11. Of course it depends! haha. And then there is "fool me once, fool me twice" kind of thing - don't want to get burned again and again.
