July 7th: How do you feel about book banning?

A big no to book banning. But at the same time, think about some books written, like horrible evil ones, with morally, ethically things in them, well those should never be.

But then when books are banned it's often for wrong reasons. How others try to control what others read. Books that should be read.

Oh my brain can't think, someone else will say it betetr

  1. In an ideal world I think the general public should have access to all published works - and yes, even those containing ideas I find abhorrent or personally don't agree with. Only then can we have true freedom of speech and sharing of knowledge. Of course, within certain circles I understand why there might be need for control (like schools barring certain books from their libraries because they have to be age appropriate) but these should be case-by-case exceptions depending on setting and audience and not a general rule. Too many books are banned willy nilly these days for anything remotely objectionable, and it's sad when I see in a lot of cases that it's bookstores doing it.

    1. I am all for not banning anything, but, still it does make me wonder about really truly morally wrong books, I am talking about stuff that will hurt others. But if you start banning one then banning continues. A tough one

  2. Yeah some books have been banned for really silly controlling reasons. But then as you say some evil stuff should never see the light of day.

  3. I'm against book banning, but there are some evil reads out there too. Not sure what to do about that.

  4. I know what you mean. I don't like book banning but then again some books are awful. I guess everyone has to choose their own.

  5. No banning, but I do like warning labels or transparency in the blurb or genre designation so a person can choose responsibly.

  6. You said it perfectly. I mean, I don't want to read a book that glorifies a pedophile as a hero, and I think books like that get such negative press, they are put out of business! But generally, no banning!
