How do you organize your bookshelves (real and virtual)?

My bookshelves at home, sigh! Well they are in that room that is still a mess after having lived here for 6 months. So a mess!

But I have tried organizing by color once, it was cool, but I could not find anything. So I do it by author, and I try to keep some genres close to each other.

My virtual bookshelves on goodreads are mostly genre tags, and different categories of books I want (in the right order), and library books.

I keep it simple

3/30/2021 Have you ever thought of quitting blogging? What made you reconsider the idea?

  1. I used to have time to organize my bookshelves alphabetically, but I own way too many books now to do actually make the time. Sigh.

You should at least shelve them and let us see what yours look like!

  3. I only have one small bookcase of print books since we moved country, but my kindle is ruthlessly organised into categories, and the new books hang around unshelved until I've read them. Which can be months! 😂

  4. I did mine by color once too but it didn't last. I'd like to try again...

  5. Simple is good. I stick mine where they'll fit, I try to keep authors together where I can.

  6. I've not tried to do the color method though it does look pretty when I see others do it. Like you, it's author and a little genre. Mostly, wherever the books will fit.

  7. I like the idea of organizing by color, but I didn't do it because like you said, how can you find anything? I go by author, too.

  9. I try to group all of an author's books together and keep my favorites close to each other. I am still a bit of a mess from moving all of my books though.

  10. I love the pretty shelf pics done by color, but that would likely drive me insane. I have mine organized by genre and within that alphabetically by author...wait, not all the genres. Eek! I have a project!!!

    1. All genres are hard, cos what about when an author writes in many genres? Do I go genre or author?

  12. I can't do by color because I'll never find anything.. Bookshelves are alphabetical by author. 1 boolshelf for fantasy/pnr, 2 for fiction, 1 for non-fiction, then smaller shelves that has shelves for spedific authors (Anne Rice, Nora Roberts, Laurell K. Hamilton etc.). It's annoying that the shelves are different. Like in the living room I have 2 types of shelves... Some brown and some black..

  14. Fiction is alphabetical by author's last name, then in chronological order if it's a series.

Non fiction is separated by broad topics, then alphabetical by author.

  15. I have kind of given up on the whole organization of bookshelves.

  16. I got rid of SO many books during our move so I have about 30 keeper books organized by author and about 50 to read and right now they're by color. Otherwise it's not something I really care about.

when I took on ARC's, I had them organized by date and genre.
