When is a book too long?

Never, and it depends. I have read books over a 1000 pages that were not too long. A fantasy book that is 600 pages can feel short.

Then there are those 300 pages books that just feel too long. When there is nothing in them but fillers, when you feel it should have ended 50 pages ago. When author force a book to be longer.

It truly depends....

  2. Yep, a book is too long when the writing drags or fails to engage me.

  3. "When author force a book to be longer."
Good take! I don't care for the page count, as long as I'm being entertained.

  5. I think a book can definitely be too long, but like you said it depends. A 1000 page book can be the perfect length if not a single word is wasted, but an average length can also feel too long if it's mostly filler.

  6. I agree. A fabulous book can never feel too long and a mediocre book with a lot of fluff can feel endless.

  7. If a book is really good, I don't care how long it is. I read Acheron and Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon and those are some huge books. But they were so good.

  8. So true! It depends on if you love the story or not.

  10. Yep, I have had 1,000 pages fly by and have taken forever to get through shorter books. It's all in the story and the writing.
