I could not remember everything from book 1, but you do not need to. It happened 10 years ago, and Arwa thinks her sister was dead. And I was all, is she? Not sure. But hey that works for the story.
Indian inspired. An empire in decline. A young widow, Arwa, goes to a place for widows. Cos yeah widows are useless. But instead she becomes embroiled in the search for a solution for what is happening, together with Zahir, the emperor´s bastard.
I liked the setting and story. There is so much history and mythology. Like how her people are part Daiva (like Jinn.) And obvi she will end up with Zahir in the end, though no romance here. Just a tiny sliver
I´d say the negative part was the end. All worked out well. Except everything is still shit...then what????
I think this duology could do with another one, or maybe this is life. They are good for now while the world burns.
The Ambhan Empire is crumbling. A terrible war of succession hovers on the horizon. The only hope for peace lies in the mysterious realm of ash, where mortals can find what they seek in the echoes of their ancestors' dreams. But to walk there requires a steep price.
Arwa is determined to make the journey. Widowed by a brutal massacre, she's pledged service to the royal family and will see that pledge through to the end. She never expected to be joined by Zahir, the disgraced, illegitimate prince who has turned to forbidden magic in a desperate bid to save those he loves.
Together, they'll walk the bloody path of their shared past. And it will call into question everything they've ever believed...including whether the Empire is worth saving at all.

I like this series, there is danger, mystery and murder. Romance, butterflies and secrets. All told with a style that makes it light and so fun to read.
Veronica and Stoker are sent to investigate a missing heir that has shown up. Veronica gets a blast from the past and ack, I just want her and Stoker to finally be happy! Not that Veronica needs all of that. Now she is an independent free spirit, and I adore her for it.
I do not want to say too much, lots of secrets going on here.
Loving this series. It is so much fun
London, 1889. Veronica Speedwell and her natural historian beau Stoker are summoned by Sir Hugo Montgomerie, head of Special Branch. He has a personal request on behalf of his goddaughter, Euphemia Hathaway. After years of traveling the world, her eldest brother, Jonathan, heir to Hathaway Hall, was believed to have been killed in the catastrophic eruption of Krakatoa a few years before.
But now a man matching Jonathan's description and carrying his possessions has arrived at Hathaway Hall with no memory of his identity or where he has been. Could this man truly be Jonathan, back from the dead? Or is he a devious impostor, determined to gain ownership over the family's most valuable possessions--a legendary parure of priceless Rajasthani jewels? It's a delicate situation, and Veronica is Sir Hugo's only hope.
Veronica and Stoker agree to go to Hathaway Hall to covertly investigate the mysterious amnesiac. Veronica is soon shocked to find herself face-to-face with a ghost from her past. To help Sir Hugo discover the truth, she must open doors to her own history that she long believed to be shut for good.

7/25/2023 What is your favorite thing about summer?
Favorite thing? Well that it is warm outside. Finland is a very cold country. The south of Europe is burning down and melting and we have today the extreme heat of...17c. Yeah that is Finnish summer.
I do love the light. At midsummer the sun sets, and then rises soon after. I love (and hate) that it is so light outside.
Summer clothes!

A million things happen since this book is...honestly what to call it? We jump from person to person. Every in the 14 books before have a chance to be seen and we get to see what is going on. Someone is having babies, someone is about to be kidnapped. Alliances are being cemented and there is a hunt going on for a missing sea changeling.
In a way a bunch of short stories that build a book.
Have I read all of the 15 now? Eh, no, I am missing some, 7, 8 and 11 to be precise. Ooops ;) But hey on to book 22 hopefully soon instead.
The Psy/Changeling world has undergone a staggering transformation and now stands at a crossroads. The Trinity Accord promises a new era of cooperation between disparate races and groups. It is a beacon of hope held together by many hands: old enemies, new allies, and wary loners. But a century of distrust and suspicion can't be so easily forgotten and threatens to shatter Trinity from within at any moment. As rival members vie for dominance, chaos and evil gather in the shadows and a kidnapped woman's cry for help washes up in San Francisco, while the Consortium turns its murderous gaze toward a child who is the embodiment of change, of love, of piercing hope: a child who is both Psy and Changeling. To find the lost, protect the vulnerable-and save Trinity-no one can stand alone. This is a time of loyalty across divisions, of bonds woven into the heart and the soul, of heroes known and unknown standing back to back and holding the line. But is an allegiance of honor even possible with traitors lurking in their midst?

Charlotte has no prospects except for one guy so he has to due. Her uncle and aunt will kick her out if she does not marry. Such aholes. And her almost fiance does seem nice, or?
Enter her dead brother´s best friend. Kidnapping. Snowstorm, stranded at a country inn pretending to be married. But seriously Finn! What was your plan? Ruin her chances? Marry her at least you idiot? But then he had no plan, he just did not want her to marry the other guy, cos he is not nice at all.
They grow closer, there is a lot of time spent at the inn getting to know people. And then life must continue.
Of course they end up happily ever after, but they have some drama to get through first.
Enjoyable.
A good narration. I am not sure if I have listened to this narrator before, but she had a nice voice that fit the era and story well.
The beloved "sunshine" of the ton, Miss Charlotte Chapman, is trapped in the carriage with an utter madman. There's simply no other explanation for it. Why else would the rough, reclusive Earl of Trevelyan—her deceased brother's most beloved friend—sweep her away during a terrible snowstorm without explanation? All she knows is that his rather boorish behavior somehow involves her pending betrothal . . .
Trevelyan has a reputation for being something of a beast in society's circles, but nothing—nothing—will stop him from rescuing Charlotte from her disastrous engagement. He promised his best friend that she and her sister would be looked after. Of course, the earl can only protect her from the blackguard who's trying to marry her. Protecting her from himself is quite another matter . . .
Now, thanks to their upended carriage, they're stranded at a country inn—which has only one room left. And all it takes is one kiss to unlock the simmering desires they've never admitted . . . and a heartbreaking secret that could shatter Charlotte into a million pieces.

Series: Empire of the Vampire (#1)
September 7, 2021 by HarperVoyager
Fantasy /own
I am a bit torn. I liked it, and some parts were a bit meh.
It was the way it was told that made me loose interest at times. De Leon tells his story to a vampire. He is imprisoned. First, I hate when it starts like that. He is sentenced to die, like ugh. And then the story is not linear. It starts and then suddenly it is way into the future, and then we go back, and then we go forth. That was the part that did not work for me. It made it hard to connect.
But it was interesting, and good.
Hard to connect though
Torn. I want to give it a good grade, but at the same time I do not plan to read more the day more comes. I do want to know what happens, but meh, cranky today
But! It has amazing illustrations!
From holy cup comes holy light;
The faithful hand sets world aright.
And in the Seven Martyrs’ sight,
Mere man shall end this endless night.
It has been twenty-seven long years since the last sunrise. For nearly three decades, vampires have waged war against humanity; building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own. Now, only a few tiny sparks of light endure in a sea of darkness.
Gabriel de León is a a member of a holy brotherhood dedicated to defending realm and church from the creatures of the night. But even the Silver Order could not stem the tide once daylight failed us, and now, only Gabriel remains.
Imprisoned by the very monsters he vowed to destroy, the last silversaint is forced to tell his story. A story of legendary battles and forbidden love, of faith lost and friendships won, of the Wars of the Blood and the Forever King and the quest for humanity’s last remaining

Paranormal romance /from nextory
I do prefer the none psy psy ones. Psy on Psy is just so cold. But it is still good, Singh is always good, Dawe is always an excellent narrator.
Aden and Zaira has been kidnapped. They escape, they find out they want each other. The world is still in danger.
It does lack the emotional connection I get from other pairings, and Zaira was just plain scary at times.
But hey, still good, and I want to try to finish as many as possible, I have read this series so out of order
Awakening wounded in a darkened cell, their psychic abilities blocked, Aden and Zaira know they must escape. But when the lethal soldiers break free from their mysterious prison, they find themselves in a harsh, inhospitable landscape far from civilization. Their only hope for survival is to make it to the hidden home of a predatory changeling pack that doesn’t welcome outsiders.
And they must survive. A shadowy enemy has put a target on the back of the Arrow squad, an enemy that cannot be permitted to succeed in its deadly campaign. Aden will cross any line to keep his people safe for this new future, where even an assassin might have hope of a life beyond blood and death and pain. Zaira has no such hope. She knows she’s too damaged to return from the abyss. Her driving goal is to protect Aden, protect the only person who has ever come back for her no matter what.
This time, even Aden’s passionate determination may not be enough—because the emotionless chill of Silence existed for a reason. For the violent, and the insane, and the irreparably broken . . . like Zaira.

7/11/2023 What are some underrated books/series you wish got more recognition?
Always when someone asks this people comment on widely known things, so I will try to stay away from that. I looked at awesome books on GR and tried to choose some with the least amount of reviews.
Priest of Bones by Peter McLean was such a fresh cool book! Fantasy. Most known of the ones I will mention here
Divine Heretic by Jaime Lee Moyer, well almost none had read that one. It was great
Kin by Snorri Kristjansson, very nicely written Icelandic tale set in Viking times
Generation V by Ml Brennan was this really cool UF series that I truly liked and miss,
The man who rained by Ali Shaw. Omg his prose you all
I went back 10 years to bring you 5 jewels :)

7/4/2023 What is your favorite holiday and what do you do to celebrate?
Favorite holiday must be Xmas. Because, I freaking love presents. I am still 5 at heart. I also love all the candy, the decorations and the food.
Things I do not like is that the sun rises at 10 am and sunset is at 2 pm.
Clebrations start at Little Xmas. You get into the feeling and looking forward to a long vacation. Food, presents and trying not to stress. damn that is hard.'
