The Blinding Knife - Brent Weeks

Gavin Guile is dying. He'd thought he had five years left--now he has less than one. With fifty thousand refugees, a bastard son, and an ex-fiancée who may have learned his darkest secret, Gavin has problems on every side. All magic in the world is running wild and threatens to destroy the Seven Satrapies. Worst of all, the old gods are being reborn, and their army of color wights is unstoppable. The only salvation may be the brother whose freedom and life Gavin stole sixteen years ago.

My thoughts:
I did not remember a single thing from book 1. It took me 3 years to go from book 1 to 2, but then it took that long for it to get published too.

The details I remembered were sketchy, and I was all, can I even do this? But I read on, and I could!

Gavin's story, eh, I am not a fan of Gavin. I can't remember everything, but from what I know here,  he is just too focused.

There was also a tiny POV of Liv, I have no idea why she switched to the bad side. Is it the bad side? That guy had good ideas and BAD ideas. Liv was meh.

But Kip! Oh I am glad his was the important POV, I liked to see him struggle at school. He is a bastard, he is fat. But he has magic, and his father wants him to join this elite team of fighter. People despise him. He is a fighter.

At the end I wanted book 3. Because the end was all no! Really?! Luckily for me book 3 is actually out, and book 4 is coming next year, so no real wait. No 3 years. ;) Well a little wait but still...

Conclusion:
Since I do not remember book 1 I can't really compare. But compared to his other series I did enjoy those more. Still, it is a good series, and hey, no 3 year breaks between books! So I do look forward to reading more.

  1. It's always good when an instalment can stand on its own. Shows how easily you're able to follow even though it'd taken you years to read it. :)

  3. 3 years in between books is a long time! I would have struggled to remember details too, but I'm glad you were able to get into it without too much trouble!

  4. I haven't read anything in this series and think I would prefer to start at the beginning. That said there is lots of series I don't read in sequence so if I came across this I would probably give it a go.

  5. I have mixed feelings about this series. It's all right but not amazing, but at the same time I'm enjoying myself enough that I've been reluctant to stop reading. Guess I'm in it to the end.
