Normal people by Sally Rooney

266 pages, Hardcover

Published: August 28, 2018 by Faber & Faber

Fiction /library

This book was messy, these people who wanted to be normal were flawed and real.

Marianne and Connell meet in school. He is popular, she is not. She is rich, he is not. They start something in secret.

They meet again and now she is popular and he is the one not fitting in. They are in and out of each other´s lives and being idiots.

But so much else is going on. She has some trauma she really should work through and admit. The same with him. They are flawed. And there are some really disturbing things going on. Srsly, work through that trauma.

The end was a bit open, I like closure and I really need that. But I enjoyed the book and binged it

At school Connell and Marianne pretend not to know each other. He's popular and well-adjusted, star of the school football team, while she is lonely, proud, and intensely private. But when Connell comes to pick his mother up from her job at Marianne's house, a strange and indelible connection grows between the two teenagers--one they are determined to conceal.

A year later, they're both studying at Trinity College in Dublin. Marianne has found her feet in a new social world while Connell hangs at the sidelines, shy and uncertain. Throughout their years at university, Marianne and Connell circle one another, straying toward other people and possibilities but always magnetically, irresistibly drawn back together. And as she veers into self-destruction and he begins to search for meaning elsewhere, each must confront how far they are willing to go to

  1. I like closure too but at least it was bingable for you.

  6. That cover still makes me chuckle. It's so cool, but the yellow. Oof.
