Divine Descendant - Jenna Black

What happens when fertility goddesses go on strike? Nothing much—except maybe the end of the human race.

When private investigator Nikki Glass became immortal as a descendant of Artemis, she never dreamed she’d find herself playing marriage counselor to the gods. But she doesn’t really have much of a choice when the crazed ex-wife of Anderson Kane—a god in disguise who just happens to be the son of a Fury—decides to enact revenge by wiping out all of humanity. Somehow, Nikki must convince the two to kiss and make up, but with Anderson now gone AWOL, she'll have to find him first. To top it all off, the cat’s out of the bag that Anderson killed Konstantin, the Olympians’ deposed leader. Now their new boss—Konstantin’s son—is out for blood.

With every mere mortal’s fate now resting in Nikki’s hands, can she outsmart the gods…or will she be doomed to spend the rest of eternity in a barren and desolate world?

My thoughts:
Still reading the omnibus  and now I see that this one was ebook only. That would so have annoyed me if I had read the books in paper. I would just not have bought it, since I can't. But I had the omnibus, via la omnibus.

I guess that is why the series ended also when it went ebook only. Cos it did speed up in this one. She needed an ending and yes it was a decent enough ending, but it also left space so there could be more. And I am sad that there wont be more. The books just felt so light and nice, much thanks to the omnibus since well you should see it. No dead space.

In this one we learn a secret about Anderson. And fine I take back what I said in the last book when I said she should fancy him instead. Yeah, maybe not. Jamal has issues but they are a good fit and getting closer again.

And there are angry fertility goddesses around. And those pesky Olympians. She is the one to stop them.

A good ending to this series. It worked buying the omnibus so I am glad for that, I did have book 1, but it was cheaper getting this one than the rest so I took a chance and it paid off.

Conclusion:
I read them really fast.

Rogue Descendant - Jenna Black

No longer the leader of the Olympians, Konstantin has now gone into hiding. Konstantin is vulnerable, and Anderson believes now is the perfect time to destroy his nemesis. He orders private eye Nikki Glass to use her powers to locate Konstantin, and she balks at the idea until a series of attacks leads her to believe that Konstantin is gunning for her and Anderson instead of remaining safely in hiding.

Nikki’s search is complicated by Cyrus—Konstantin’s son and the new leader of the Olympians—who threatens retribution should his father be killed. The complications mount up as Nikki begins to suspect that Konstantin might not be behind the attacks after all. The only person who hates Konstantin more than Anderson does is Anderson’s estranged wife, Emma, who has joined the Olympians. And Nikki knows Emma would be more than happy if Anderson and his people embroil themselves in an all-out war against the Olympians—a war they cannot hope to win.

As Nikki tries to figure out who the true enemy is, she deals with her tumultuous relationship with Jamaal, who struggles to control his death magic. But being loved by a descendant of a death goddess is the least of Nikki’s worries…

My thoughts:
What I like about this omnibus is the lack of dead space, sure it does not actually give you a lot of time to breath, but I just read it faster!  So if you want to buy this series then go for the omnibus ;)

In this one someone is after Nikki. And on top of that Anderson wants to her to hunt down Konstantin. Sure girl, I get that you do not want to hunt someone for revenge, instead hunt someone who hurts people. But he hurts people! He kills people! F the revenge angle, hunt him cos he is scum!

She is also dealing with Jamal, their rocky friendship that they finally started to build in book 2 has fallen apart again. Personally, who needs friends, she should hook up with Anderson ;) But then he is scary so.... But then Jamal is scary too, but she fancies him

There is the mystery aspect of who is after her. Her dealing with her new housemates. And then there are those evil Olympians to worry about too.

It's a good series. Light, fast and I have enjoyed reading 2 in a row now ;)

Pros and Cons and TMST: Long running series

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post on Rainy Day Ramblings where Rainy discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.

This week's conversation starter:

August 29th: What are some long running series that you would like to try?

Honestly, they scare me! When I see those 16 series long books all I do is sigh. It's one thing jumping in when there are 3 books out but when there are that many, well I  fear they will go bad. Too many books, too little plot left. I just stay away from them. It would take a lot for me to try a series that has been going on for that long!

I did try that JD Robb series, ugh, book 1 sucked so I never gave it another go. It's also easier to just leave them when they are that long.

So I can not really say that there are any long running series I want to try.

Though when it comes to historical romance I am more willing to try them since there I just tend to jump in ;)

As a living descendant of Artemis the Huntress, private investigator Nikki Glass knows how to track someone down—but this time, her latest case leads to unexpected revelations of lies and betrayal...

My thoughts:
I did not realise my omnibus had a novella in it too. Cool.

In this one Nikki is on her own since she wants to avoid Anderson after what happened in book 2. So she takes a case where a woman needs to find this man. And it gets complicated.

I really can not say a lot. She solves the case. There is some danger.

A good novella.

Deadly Descendant - Jenna Black

As a living descendant of Artemis the Huntress, private investigator Nikki Glass knows how to track someone down. But when an Oracle shows up, warning the Descendants about wild dog attacks in Washington, D.C., Nikki is afraid it might be a trap. The Olympians believe the “dogs” are really jackals, controlled by a blood-crazed descendant of the Egyptian death-god Anubis. Whatever. . . . If Nikki hopes to muzzle Dogboy, she’s got to catch him in the act. But when she stakes out a local cemetery, she ends up face-to-snout with a snarling pack of shadow-jackals whose bite is worse than their bark. These hellhounds are deadly—even for an immortal like Nikki. “Dog” spelled backward may be “god,” but that won’t stop Nikki from teaching these old gods some new tricks. Like playing dead.

My thoughts:
I am happy that I enjoyed this one cos I am super scared of book 2 syndrome at the moment ;)

But it was light and a fast read. And I do like those.

Nikki found out she has divine blood, and so do a LOT of people it seems, and some can become immortal (if you kill someone immortal first). And now she is stuck with a bunch of weirdos at a mansion. Another set of immortals wants to kill her and yes those guys are real assholes. The nice guys are nice and I do like their leader. Too bad she fancies someone else. Well fancies and fancies, he hates her at times but she totes fancies him.

Interesting side characters, a kick-ass heroine. Bad guys, good guys, Gods and their children.

A nice plot too with someone killing people with the help of dogs and there is a mystery to solve.

Conclusion:
Since I read this in an omnibus it felt really short, which was good ;)
