Grace and Sam must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping dangerous secrets. For Sam, it means grappling with his werewolf past ...and figuring out a way to survive the future.
But just when they manage to find happiness, Grace finds herself changing in ways she could never have expected...
An old review that has been left hanging.
My thoughts:
I have no idea what happened. I could never get into the book. The first 1 was so good, I loved the style. Here, well here the style failed for me. I got annoyed at the feeling that I stood at the outside looking in. I never got warm, I never felt like I was there. I did not like the constant POV changes, 4 were too many in a book like this.
I was never invested in the story, I never cared about these two, or Isabel and Cole. But most of all nothing at all happened. It was a long fever dream where most of the time was spent "oh I love you, I miss you" etc etc. If someone would ask me what happened I would say that Grace and Sam thought about each other, Cole was dealing with his change and Grace's parents got mad, cos that was it (edit: and if you would ask me now, months later I would say that I can't remember anything..except for a rockstar.)
Conclusion:
It was still ok, it was just not.. interesting.

I remember liking this even more than the first novel in the series - I am happy that there are only 3 books in this series because I feel like some series just go on and on and the story starts to lack.
ReplyDeleteSo true, some series I just want to stop, cos I get so sad when they start to suck :/ Which is why trilogies are so good
DeleteI was actually halfway into this book when I stopped... that was last year...
ReplyDeletebecause you did something else, or cos it was bad? ;)
DeleteI think because it didn't hold my interest enough...
DeleteI've read different reviews, good and bad, of Maggie Stiefvater books. I would like to try one but now I am even more sure I won't like it.
ReplyDeleteI really liked book 1 but book 2 was all meh. it went from cool YA uf to bad yA pnr
DeleteOh noes! I have to admit I like Maggie's style. It's melancholic and poetic, but yes, you're right it's slow plot wise, not much happens. :)
ReplyDeleteI did like book 1, really liked it, but this one was just like *snoooze*
DeleteI hope it's just a case of sophomore slump and the series picks back up for you.
ReplyDeleteIt does make me put book 3 further down the pile :/
DeleteThis was not the series for me either. I just couldn't quite get involved with Sam or Grace, and I never made it past book 1 despite how much everyone else seemed to love it. *sigh* I did adore THE SCORPIO RACES though, I thought that one was brilliant, and I can't wait to read THE RAVEN BOYS:)
ReplyDeleteHm..maybe I would go for those books more. Cos let's face it, most of the time YA pnr/UF falls flat for me. I always have the same old issues
DeleteI have been wanting to start this series for a long time. I'm sorry the second book didn't live up to expectations for you.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you enjoy it more than I did if you try it
Deletei have the first one but have just never decided to read it.
ReplyDeleteI did like the first one
DeleteI just got the first one. Good to know what you thought of the second. It might take me a while to get to that one.
ReplyDeleteÍ liked the first, and this was sure the worst case of 2nd book syndrome ever
DeleteI've not read any Stiefvater, but I admit that the beauty of the covers alone makes me want to buy all her boks! Sad it wasn't that great.
ReplyDeleteIt was just sadly boring and sometimes there are too many POVS
DeleteJust one of those books that didn't work, alas...
ReplyDeleteIt happens..a
DeleteI think that an author has to be careful with POV changes. Sometimes it works to add insight, but it can go wrong very quickly. I also have to agree, sometimes these series just go on too damn long. It is almost like they keep going until they have nothing else to deliver and no one is paying attention any longer. I say quit while your ahead and keep readers buzzing. Thank you for your review.
ReplyDeleteOh yes do quit while you are ahead. When they go on and on, well I just start to worry cos I know it will all go south in the end.
DeleteIn fantasy I can handle POV changes. But here I think (since it was too long ago) I felt like why do we have to read about those other two? Who cares
I loved the first book, liked the second and hated the third. It's really sad how wrong this series went.
ReplyDeleteYikes, that does not bode well for me and book 3 then
DeleteI did not read the first one- but I have this one to read (I won it). I would like to read the first one before I try this one. I appreciated your honest review.
ReplyDelete~Jess
I do say read the 1st one first as it builds up, and if you jump into this one, well things will be lost
DeleteLOL thanks for the laugh and the honesty. Most of the YA books i pick seem the way this one is.
ReplyDeleteSad but true. Way too few YA books wow me, most just annoy me
DeleteBook 1 lost me after just a few chapters. I thought the writing and the story were ridiculous. What kind of kid goes outside in the snow and lies down with a bunch of wolves? Considering my feelings about this book I was shocked by how much I enjoyed The Scorpio Races.
ReplyDeleteLol, tell me about it! I did get over it, but it was mostly cos I liked her writing, but then it went south.
DeleteHm..Maybe I should try it
I've heard that a lot of people didn't love the last book Forever but I haven't heard much about Linger.
ReplyDeleteI still need to read Shiver. I've kind of avoided it because of all the hype. I usually don't love things as much as everyone else. Especially in YA
Hype can be evil, I always fear hype cos it's always a letdown..well mostly. But I do fear the last one now as this one was just so very very meh
DeleteI knew I was staying away from this series for a reason. Thanks for the affirmation!
ReplyDeleteLol, yes stay away ;)
DeleteI think that's why I still have book 3 lying around unread... It keeps being moved to the bottom of my pile.
ReplyDeleteAnd I fear the same thing will now happen to my copy
Delete"Outside looking in" - that's not a good sign for a book which is supposed to bring you in and put you in the middle of everything.
ReplyDeleteIt sure ain't good :/
DeleteSorry this sequel didn't work for you :( I personally loved Cole's narration so his addition was great for me!
ReplyDeleteAnd as I can't remember who that was..the rockstar? Honestly this book is a big blur for me
DeleteThis author has never appealed to me. And now I am not sorry at all.
ReplyDeleteYou know best :)
DeleteI haven't tried this series but the other one much less longer lol. But well I'm glad to have your opinion because now I'm sure I wont try it.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to have helped
DeleteGah. I'm sorry this was a flop. I was hoping it was good because of the whole werewolf thing. I have a thing for those shapeshifters. lol
ReplyDeleteI loooooove wolves, but this one, it fell flat for me
DeleteI remember liking the first one too and then not being as impressed with the other two, but I still read them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for honest review though,
Brandi from Blkosiner’s Book Blog
I guess I will read book 3 one day..
DeleteAnd I can't even remember who that was..the star? That does not bode well, ever
ReplyDeleteI liked the first one and was really hoping that the series would get better from there. I have the next in my tbr. So sorry this one fell flat for you.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you will enjoy it more than I did :(
DeleteHey how could you not love Cole, B? ;) There isn't much action in this trilogy but Maggie's writing is just excellent.
ReplyDeleteShe is a good writer, but sadly I was just so bored :/
DeleteI know a lot of people have loved this series and have gone nuts for it. But it hasn't grabbed me and yelled at me yet. Thanks for your thoughts on it. :)
ReplyDeleteI read the first, good :) And then this one, I mean honestly such a big case of 2nd book syndrome it screamed
DeleteSorry this one didn't work for you, I loved Linger but not as much as Shiver. Unfortunately the last book Forever didn't do it for me.
ReplyDeleteEveryone keeps saying that so now I am really scared
Deletesorry you didn't enjoy it Blod. I have had my eye on this series though.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you would enjoy it more than I did
