August 6th: Are there genres that you keep trying only to be disappointed?
I would say YA fantasy, YA paranormal, no, they just do not work for me. Not in print, not in audio. In audio they are better, and there I might even enjoy them. But they are never amazing. And I never know why.
I always find a lack of world building
Or the stupid love triangle
Or the dang teens who are expert this or expert that. Just no, and they are always so bad at things too even though they are supposed to be the best *eyeroll*
Yes I have an issue with YA fantasy, too many disappointments with books that were over hyped.
I should give up, I really should, and I should also stop reading them with Carole (sorry Carole! ;)
I think that is it. Other genres might dissappoint, but this one always hit me hardest cos I love fantasy

hahahah we always have hope for some reason.
ReplyDeleteDamn our hopeful nature
DeleteI don't think I have one. Maybe pure sci-fi
ReplyDeleteThat I get, pure sci.fi is not really for me either
DeleteI don't read much YA anymore because it's usually a disappointment. There are a couple of exceptions, though, and I usually snap up their books when there's a new release.
ReplyDeleteI should just stick with ya fic and avoid the rest ;)
DeleteI can't gt into the YA books. Just not for me. I mostly read PNR these days but I used to read historicals but I don't care for them much anymore. Contemporary just doesn't do it for me. Unless there's a dragon, werewolf, demon or vampire in the story, I'm not likely to read it.
ReplyDeleteDragon and weres are great so I get that ;)
DeleteAnd YA, well YA fic works, that it does
I don't read that genre maybe because I am ahem too far removed from it!
ReplyDeleteI never read them when I was that age so I read them now, and I have not missed much
DeleteMaybe you will find one you like someday :)
ReplyDeleteOne day!!
DeleteYA is a biggie. So many hyped books end up disappointing me. It's just a tough genre/category because there's so much out there, and only a few stand out.

I do feel like they hype WAY too many books, I mean they are all over hyped and trying to be the night big thing
DeleteDespite trying to read a zillion sci-fi novels, they just never seem to work out. However, I love a sci fi movie which is normally filled with lots of cool stuff and action. Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteSci fi is hard, I like some but the really techy ones are not for me
DeleteYeah, I kind of took a long break from the YA genre in general. I still read a couple here and there but mostly I have switched back to adult books, and I am happier.
ReplyDeleteI will stay with fic, but the rest, no I have to give up
DeleteI think I've stopped reading the genres that disappoint me. I need to do the same with some authors.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard
