Obviously a audiobook like this is not for me. So many sounds! It is based on a play so they brought out all the stops, sounds and voices. And being used to just one voice most of the time and no special effects, well it was a bit much.
As a play it works well, I could see the play before me. Listening is different since it is so obvi a play in how it was built. And the end just came and I was all...more?
But it was short and I wanted a short one.
The book is mostly two people talking, the end.
Yasmeen Al-Hamadi is a Muslim, Yemeni-American senior at a struggling inner-city Bronx high school. Dr. Guy Royston is her disaffected science teacher, a former Evangelical with a mysterious past. An unlikely research team, together they embark on a neurological study, leading to stormy conflicts over love, faith and culture. L.A. Theatre Works edition.
I listened to a Shakespeare play once. You're right about the odd experience of getting the feeling of it being a play, but only being able to listen.
ReplyDeleteIt was eerie in a way
DeleteHa. Sounds interesting though.
ReplyDeleteIt was but yes not for me in audio
DeleteI would be overwhelmed probably audio wise and have to keep going back lol.
ReplyDeleteAt least it was short
DeleteYes, I've listened to an audiobook with all the sound effects and it's a little distracting since, like you, I'm used to just a single or double narrator. It reminds me of the radio plays my dad would listen to at night. We all got to listen too while drifting off to sleep. I liked them.
ReplyDeleteI am way to used to my preferred format so it was so weird, but yes I could see it for some cool play
DeleteI agree it must be complicated at first
ReplyDeleteIt was a weird feeling
DeleteThe cover is lovely tho!
ReplyDeleteIt is :)
DeleteMhmmm it sounds good...but I feel like I would be let down because I would want more too.
ReplyDeleteIt was strange
