Wrayth and TMST: Who are some authors you have been meaning to read?

In the Empire of Arkaym, the Order of Deacons protects and shelters the citizens from the attacks of the unliving. All are sworn to fight the evil forces of the geists—and to keep the world safe from the power of the Otherside…

Although she is one of the most powerful Deacons in the Order, Sorcha Faris is still unable to move or speak after her last battle. Even her partner, Merrick Chambers, cannot reach her through their shared Bond. Yet there are those who still fear Sorcha and the mystery of her hidden past.

Meanwhile, Merrick has been asked to investigate a new member of the Emperor’s Court. But when Sorcha is abducted by men seeking Raed Rossin, the shapeshifting rival to the throne, Merrick must choose where his loyalties lie.

My thoughts:
From the beginning I had the same issue with this one as book 2. There I just thought that maybe it was not the right time to read it. Well, now I know, it's the book. I just can not connect! Book 1 was nothing special, but it was good enough and I read more in case it got better. It was very light fantasy and fast to read. Anyway, it did not get better. It got worse.

I tried to get through this book but omg so dull! There was nothing magical about it anymore. I started to skim so I would get to the end then I read some reviews of book 4 to see how it ends. Cos I am done done with this series. So done. Bleh, why did I even get this one!?

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post on Rainy Day Ramblings where Rainy discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.

This week's conversation starter:
August 22nd: Who are some authors you have been meaning to read?

No! Do not ask me that. This is going to be really short! I honestly do not know. I have the WORST memory. I see reviews and I am all I have to try that author! Then I forget about the name. Because I do not go at once to goodreads to put them on my wishlist. My wishlist I want to keep kind of tiny and then those other authors I try when given a chance.

But hey, what are some authors that YOU have been meaning to read? Give me some ideas who I have to try.

Spectyr - Philippa Ballantine

The second novel in Ballantine's series. In a realm of mystics and magic, the Order of Deacons stands between the here and now and the Otherside. Its mission is to protect the citizens of the Empire from malevolent geists--no matter where or when...

Though one of the most powerful Deacons, Sorcha Faris has a tarnished reputation to overcome, which is why she jumps at the chance to investigate a string of murders in the exotic city of Orithal. But it is there that her lover, the shapeshifting rival to the throne, is targeted by a cruel and vengeful goddess, unwittingly unleashed by the Emperor's sister.

My thoughts:
Hmmm, I did not really focus on what I was reading. Not the best of weeks. It was good, but my focus was so off. Seriously, I was about to pick it up yesterday....and realised I had finished it the day before. Yeah. Sorry book. I might have missed a thing or two.

So...evil goddess wants to kill that guy with a beast inside of him. Sorcha the one with magic and her partner wants to stop that, and get out of town. Since her husband is a dick. Yes yes I know, I really kept my attention on this. Sigh.

Evil goddess was evil, sprinkle in some surprises. One was sad. Oh oh, wtf with that freaking royal bitch. Grrrrrrrrr. I hope she gets what is coming to her.

I am so glad it worked even if my attention was nowhere to be found. I hope I am in a better mood when I read the next one.

Geist - Philippa Ballantine

Between the living and the dead is the Order of the Deacons, protectors of the Empire, guardians against possession, sentinels enlisted to ward off the malevolent haunting of the geists...

Among the most powerful of the Order is Sorcha, now thrust into partnership with the novice Deacon, Merrick Chambers. They have been dispatched to the isolated village of Ulrich to aide the Priory with a surge of violent geist activity. With them is Raed Rossin, Pretender to the throne that Sorcha is sworn to protect, and bearer of a terrible curse.

But what greets them in the strange settlement is something far more predatory and more horrifying than any mere haunting. And as she uncovers a tradition of twisted rituals passed down through the dark reaches of history, Sorcha will be forced to reconsider everything she thinks she knows.

And if she makes it out of Ulrich alive, what in Hell is she returning to?

My thoughts:
Sorcha battles geists and more, and sends them packing. Which brings me to the world at once, I did not learn that much, so the world building lacked. And therefore I call it light fantasy, and for me light fantasy is well light, but also with a lacking world building. I would have liked more of a world, I confess to that. Still I also like a good adventure.

Sorcha was 35-40, which I liked. She was rather serious, she had a meh marriage. And she is known for being tough.

Merrick is young and sort of just of out school. Her new partner. And well...did not learn much about him,

Raed, him I liked. I felt like I got a clearer picture of him. The young pretender to the throne. We all know what happen to those. He will not get that throne. He is also cursed, and it's a bad one.

And off on an adventure they go. There are geists, some romantic feelings going around, bad people plotting, and a bigger conspiracy to unravel.

Conclusion:
It was not mindblowing or anything. And now you are all are gonna go all, sorry you did not like it...I did like it. It was good, just not mindblowing. So it was good, and I am curious what will happen in the next one. On my wishlist it goes. Light fantasy is fun to read sometimes.
