Half the world - Joe Abercrombie

Sometimes a girl is touched by Mother War.

Thorn is such a girl. Desperate to avenge her dead father, she lives to fight. But she has been named a murderer by the very man who trained her to kill.

Sometimes a woman becomes a warrior.

She finds herself caught up in the schemes of Father Yarvi, Gettland’s deeply cunning minister. Crossing half the world to find allies against the ruthless High King, she learns harsh lessons of blood and deceit.

Sometimes a warrior becomes a weapon.

Beside her on the journey is Brand, a young warrior who hates to kill, a failure in his eyes and hers, but with one chance at redemption.

And weapons are made for one purpose.

Will Thorn forever be a pawn in the hands of the powerful, or can she carve her own path? (

My thoughts:
I was a bit disappointed that the book was not about Yarvi (and how much time had gone by, not a lot I guess?) Anyway so yes it is not about the main character from book 1. He is now the minister of his country. His uncle rules, his mum is preggers, and the book is not about him.

The book is about Thorn, a young woman who wants to be a warrior like her dad. And she fights hard for it. Others try to put her down but she does not give up. Sure she is stubborn to a fault, and rash, but she truly is a good warrior. And the man teaching her is an a-hole and that is why she ends up with Father Yarvi when he goes on a "trip" to sell things/get people on their side.

I do guess I like Abercrombie's YA books, but not his adult books. Go figure. I also like how they truly feel like fantasy. Sorry other YA books but really *eye roll*. Abercrombie has created a world, religion, history, I can see myself in that world. It's about a girl learning to be a warrior among men. It's a well written book about a strong woman, who does not let silly things like romance steal her away from her goal. Yes I have been burned on YA fantasy before.

Conclusion:
I look forward to book 3. I hope the library gets that one too, what? I am on a book ban! And my library is awesome *fingers crossed*. I can't wait to see how it all turns out.
