Review: The Italian's Inexperienced mistress - Lynne Graham

The Italian's Inexperienced mistress by Lynne Graham

Pages: 192
Published: 2007
Genre: Contemporary romance

When Angelo Riccardi sought revenge Gwenna Hamilton added another, delicious dimension. Innocent and pretty, she had no chance when the Italian tycoon offered her the devil's bargain: pay for her father's freedom with her body.

In her naivete, Gwenna thought that Angelo would tire of her and her innocence very quickly. But he had more in mind than just one night…

Ok, I am gonna try some sort some short review thing for this one...but first, harlequin presents titles crack me up, lol.

Characters:
Angelo Ricardo: Italian playboy tycoon out after revenge, coldhearted.
Gwenna Hamilton: Totally naive, and a sweetheart.
Her dad: An idiot who swindles money.

Plot:
Seek revenge on Hamilton and make him pay, and in comes Gwenna, new plan, destroy her in search of revenge by making her his mistress.

Good parts:
It was really short, and took now time at all to read, which I needed since it has been hectic.
And she did tell him like it was now and again, she wasn't meek, just silly.

Bad parts:
Really?! A virgin and she decides to become a mistress to save her dad?! Not to mention that she is more or less his slave then, but of course he falls for her cos she is so sweet, and naive. And of course she falls for him. And how can she be so clueless in this day and age. She is just too sweet.

Final thoughts:
But then Harlequin is silly, and the plots do not have to make sense. I am just saying, half way through it I said that it would totally end with a pregnancy and..well find out.

So, if you want something short then this is it.

Review: Gentlemen prefer Succubi - Jill Myles

Gentlemen prefer Succubi by Jill Myles
The Succubus diaries, book 1

Genre: Paranormal romance
Pages: 329
Published: 2009

Who knew an angel could get a girl in so much devilish trouble?

Jackie Brighton woke up in a dumpster this morning, and her day has only gotten weirder. Her breasts grew overnight, her sex drive is insatiable, and apparently she had her first one-night stand ever . . . with a fallen angel.

Of course, she only remembers gorgeous Noah’s enormous, er, package. And their steamy shower sex. Hmm . . . and the dark stranger whose bite transformed her into an immortal siren with a seductive Itch.

With help from Noah and fellow succubus Remy Summore, Jackie adapts to her new lifestyle—until she accidentally strikes a deal that sends her lover into the deadly clutches of the vampire queen and lands Jackie, Remy, and the queen’s wickedly hot right-hand man into the middle of a fierce battle for an ancient halo.

But how’s a girl supposed to save the world when the enemy’s so hard to resist

I really enjoyed this book, yay good paranormal romance. I am usually kind of meh about it ever since I found UF. But this one saved PR for me.

This is the story of Jackie Brighton who wakes up in a dumpster. She remembers a hunky guy but that is it, soon changes are happening. Big boobs, shiny pretty hair and men following her with their tongues hanging out. She is a succubi, doomed to have sex, or else that itch will just kill her. Not so good when she is not a one night stand kind of girl, well except for that one time.

First there is the history that I really enjoyed. There are the Serim, angels that fell from heaven and were cursed cos they slept with mortal women. Then there are the vampires, fallen angels that wanted their wings back. Both are cursed, both are pissed, and in the middle there are succubi with a sexlust like a vampire's need for feeding, and with the sex coming from the Serim curse. There are also those real angels, and they seem to be assholes, and demons (guess I will meet those later.)

I was a bit worried that I would not like Jackie, her being sexcrazed and all. But she was cool, and silly, totally clueless, and she wanted sex to mean something. Yes as long as she stays like that I will like her.

Then there is her new best friend, Remy Summore, a pRonstar (hiding from spammers here they have been on me like crazy!), and the only succubi in town. And she has no problem with sleeping around to take care of the Itch, and she was just cool.

But let me introduce you to the men, first there is Noah, the angel, and there this Zane, the vampire. Noah helps her out in the beginning since he accidentally helped create her, scratching that Itch in many ways. Then she meets Zane when she gets in trouble and have to find an ancient halo. Oh Zane, mmm, yes I fell for the bad boy in this one. The next book has him on the cover and he is a hottie. But then I never did like those blond angel guys. I hope she gets Zane hehe.

Great history, hot guys, a hilarious friend, a heroine getting in trouble, and a hunt in Egypt for a lost halo. Could it get better?

Jill Myles has created a new fun paranormal romance series, The succubus diaries is something I would like to read more of. Luckily for me there is a other book out, and book 3 is coming later this year. I guess succubi do have all the fun.

Guestblog + giveaway: Amelia Grey - An Earl to enchant *closed*

Today I welcome Amelia Grey to my blog. I have read all 3 books in her Rogues' dynasty series, and those cousin are sure something special. I also have 2 copies to give away so check the end.

Grandmothers and Heroes

Good morning and thank you for having me on your blog, Blodeuedd!  I’m very happy to be here.

In my Rogues’ Dynasty Series, I’ve often had readers e-mail and ask me, “How did you come up with the Grandmother, her dearest friend Lord Chesterfield and all his quotes?” And I usually start by saying “It wasn’t easy!”

After I decided I was brave enough to write a series, my first thought was that I wanted the books to be centered on the heroes, and I wanted them all to be titled men.  That couldn’t happen with brothers as titles only go to the eldest son. So I had to find another way to connect three titled men.

This is the premise I started with:

Everyone in the ton knew that Lady Elder had tried many times by fair and foul means to force her grandsons to marry.  After all, she had been happily married . . . four times.  Decades earlier she had successfully married off each of her three daughters to titled gentlemen.  And in turn, each daughter had given her a grandson all in the same year.

The Grandsons, a duke, a marquis, and an earl all turned out to be Rogues of the highest order, notorious for many reasons including their titles, handsome faces and rumored debauchery.  But nothing made them more popular than the fact that all three still remained bachelors in their thirtieth year.  Not even vast fortunes had tempted any of them to propose to any of the young ladies who fancied them.

Their grandmother is now deceased and each grandson deals with the grandmother’s legacy in his own way until a life-altering moment occurs when a very proper young lady arrives, very improperly, at each grandson’s door.

From A Duke to Die For by Amelia Grey, Sourcebooks Casablanca, © 2009

I always want my heroes to be tall and powerful-looking with wide shoulders and lean hips.   I like for their neckcloths to look as if they have been hastily tied making them appear to be the devilish rogues the gossipmongers claim they are.   My heroes must be strong and commanding but never afraid to show their sensitive side or commit to the woman they love.

And with all that hero material to work, with I knew that their Grandmother, Lady Elder, would have to be a strong character to make an impact because she had already died when the time the first book opens. So I gave her a dear friend, Lord Chesterfield, who was, by the way, a real man who’s letters were first published shortly after his death in 1773 . Check out Lord Chesterfield’s Letters to His Son on Amazon. It’s an amazing book. At the beginning of each chapter and sprinkled throughout the book are quotes from this man.  And to make the books even more fun, I had it where all three of Lady Elder’s grandsons hated hearing anyone quote the man.

But Maybe I can explain the importance of the grandmother a little better by sharing an excerpt from my latest book in the Rogues’ Dynasty Series, An Earl to Enchant which is on sale at your favorite local or online bookstore.

“My grandmother was an exceptional person in many ways, but there were numerous times in my life when I wished she had never met her dear friend Lord Chesterfield. If he had not been almost deaf and infirm when she met him, I believe she would have married him.”

“I think I would like to read Lord Chesterfield’s letters and make up my own mind about him. From what you have told me, he seems such a clever fellow.”

Morgan let out a half laugh, half grunt. “Most people considered him a very wise and humorous man who had an artful way of writing words, but my cousins and I never felt that way.”

“Why is that?”

“From the time we were seventeen until my grandmother’s death, she sent us a letter at the beginning of each month without fail, and they always contained a quote from Chesterfield.”

Arianna gasped. “She penned a letter to all three of you every month? That’s quite amazing.”

“Yes. She always started her letters to me with ‘My dearest grandson, Lucas,’ knowing that no one had called me by my given name since I was twelve. And she always ended her letters with ‘Your loving Grandmother, Lady Elder.’”

“I think that makes her sound very protective of you, and very kind.”

“I’m sure she considered it one of her great missions in life. The only thing her letters ever said was something along the lines of: ‘Here are more wise words from Lord Chesterfield,’ and then she would quote something from the exasperatingly pretentious old man.”

Review: The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker

The Strangely beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker by Leanna Hieber
Book 1

Genre: Paranormal Historical Gothic
Pages: 320
Published: 2009

What fortune awaited sweet, timid Percy Parker at Athens Academy? Hidden in the dark heart of Victorian London, the Romanesque school was dreadfully imposing, a veritable fortress, and little could Percy guess what lay inside. She had never met its powerful and mysterious Professor Alexi Rychman, knew nothing of the growing shadows, of the Ripper and other supernatural terrors against which his coterie stood guard. She saw simply that she was different, haunted, with her snow white hair, pearlescent skin and uncanny gift. This arched stone doorway was a portal to a new life, to an education far from what could be had at a convent-and it was an invitation to an intimate yet dangerous dance at the threshold of life and death...

I think I have to go against everyone else once again. I mean the book was ok, but, I struggled with the first 100 pages and was kind of bored by it all. Then it got better and then it had me enthralled, but I still remember that first struggle.

This is the tale of Persephone Parker who comes straight from a convent to a school in London. She is 18, almost 19 and older than the rest of the pupils. But she wanted something else than the convent, and she is a strange young woman. White hair and the skin of a ghost. Not to mention having strange visions and seeing dead people.

The school is guarded by 6 people awaiting prophecy and they fight the darkness in London while waiting for their 7th.

So yes I found it kind of boring at first. Wanted to give up and try something else, but I hung in there. I think it was when Professor Alexi Rychmann really made an entrance that I got interested. He was so dark and brooding and clinging to his thought that when their 7th comes it will be his soul mate, and that just makes a girl melt into a puddle on the floor. I was smitten and I wanted to know how it all would end.

She falls for him, he knows it is wrong, forbidden love and no one makes a move, I was on the edge of my seat. All while she is falling deeper and deeper while having visions, something strange is going on.

I liked that she took in the myth of Hades and Persephone (too bad she made him all evil, I always had some kind of weird crush on Hades.) Then there are the ghost, mysteries, and Jack the Ripper killing women in White Chapel. There is also the Phoenix and muses, that was cool.

But there was something that made me a bit upset, I would be so pissed, but she kind of just forgave, I guess she is just nice. hm.

An ok book, and worth it cos of a hunky brooding Professor.

Review: Mistborn - Brandon Sanderson

Mistborn (The Final Empire) by Brandon Sanderson
Mistborn, book 1

Genre: fantasy
Pages: 643
Published: 2006

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison. Kelsier "snapped" and found in himself the powers of a Mistborn. A brilliant thief and natural leader, he turned his talents to the ultimate caper, with the Lord Ruler himself as the mark.

Kelsier recruited the underworld's elite, the smartest and most trustworthy allomancers, each of whom shares one of his many powers, and all of whom relish a high-stakes challenge. Only then does he reveal his ultimate dream, not just the greatest heist in history, but the downfall of the divine despot.

But even with the best criminal crew ever assembled, Kel's plan looks more like the ultimate long shot, until luck brings a ragged girl named Vin into his life. Like him, she's a half-Skaa orphan, but she's lived a much harsher life. Vin has learned to expect betrayal from everyone she meets, and gotten it. She will have to learn to trust, if Kel is to help her master powers of which she never dreamed.

I wanted to try Sanderson ever since I read that he would complete WOT. Now I can see that the style is totally different. And I dunno why but I'd like to call this sci-fi fantasy, yes nothing sci-fi about it except for this feeling I got. That this is not a fantasy world, it could just be a world out there. But that is just me and perhaps it was all the metal magic.

This is the story about Vin, a thief living and hiding in the big city. She is skaa, the slaves of the world. An owner can take a woman and kill her the next day, because the gods forbid if a halfbreed was ever born. Which of course she is. Some get away, but the slave population is tired after 1000 years of slavery. It all started with the man now known as the Lord Ruler, the all mighty god that rule them all with an iron fist. He granted those who supported him 1000 years ago special rights and they are now the nobility, the rest, slaves, all owned by him and to be used by the noble families at their whim.

One day a man comes, Kelsier, with mighty plans to kill the Lord Ruler and bring the Skaa out of slavery. But how can you kill a god? Even if Kelsier is a mistborn, he has magic because of his half blood lineage, just as Vin has. Soon she is thrust into another world and will see if The Lord Ruler is a God, and if his guards are as immortals are the legends say.

I liked Vin, even if she does get a bit stupid later on thinking that the nobility isn't as bad as people have told her. But how could she know about their brutality. In a way she escaped this by being a thief and hiding from everyone. But she has potential.

The rest of the cast is good too, Kelsier with his plans, Sazed with his memory, a certain young Lord we meet, and the rest of the gang.

The magic here is really clever. They use tin, pewter, copper and more for magic gain. By swallowing this or using it otherwise they can run up a building, jump, push people and more. The magic enhances this things and I do like this creation.

Then there is the brutality of the world, in the beginning we see a pretty young girl getting taken away and the rest knows that she will be killed the next morning. They live with that and they wish their daughters to be ugly. They are a beaten people and they haev no hope. Then there is the world, it is covered in ash, the world is grey and brown and surrounded by a mist where dangerous beings live. All this cos of something that happened a 1000 years ago. It is an ugly world.

This was an ok fantasy book, mostly because of how he used the magic and how he should the grim existence of the world. He is a great worldbuilder, that I must say. I have the other two books so I will see how the story plays out.

Blodeuedd's Cover Corner: Nothing to complain about.
Reason for reading: own copy.
Final thoughts and grade: Ok fantasy .. 3

And now to a DNF
It is 1875, and Ann Eliza Young has recently separated from her powerful husband, Brigham Young, prophet and leader of the Mormon Church. Expelled and an outcast, Ann Eliza embarks on a crusade to end polygamy in the United States. A rich account of a family’s polygamous history is revealed, including how a young woman became a plural wife.

Soon after Ann Eliza’s story begins, a second exquisite narrative unfolds–a tale of murder involving a polygamist family in present-day Utah. Jordan Scott, a young man who was thrown out of his fundamentalist sect years earlier, must reenter the world that cast him aside in order to discover the truth behind his father’s death.

It is not that it was bad, the total opposite. I just got to page 200 (of 600) and got a bit bored with it all. I could not focus and wanted to read other books. The first 200 pages were good, well ok 150 but then I lost interested. I am sure I will read it one day, if I remember, because this book also shows a horrible world and I would like to see what happened to everyone. But not today. 400 pages more, yup no.

ARC review: An Earl to Enchant - Amelia Grey

An Earl to Enchant by Amelia Grey
The Rogues' Dynasty, book 3

Genre: Historical romance
Pages: 352
Published: April 6th 2010 Sourcebooks Casablanca

Young Miss Arianna Sweet, in grave danger after her father's death, rushes to his old friend Lady Elder—but her protectress has passed away, and now Arianna must rely on Lady Elder's dashing grandson, Lord Morgandale. Having watched his cousins surrender their freedom to two beautiful young ladies (A Duke To Die For, A MarquisTo Marry) Morgandale is determined to elude the parson's mousetrap. But can he save the lady without losing his heart?

This is the third book about 3 cousins finding love. Like with the two other books here each chapter starts with a quote from Lord Chesterfield, and I do like that. She has kept consistent, the letters from lady Elder, the quotes by or jokingly by Lord Chesterfield, and Gibby getting into trouble.

Wouldn't exactly call Arianna young, she is 27, but she has lived in India her entire life, and has not been presented. She is very young in one way. After her father's death she leaves for England and shows up at at Morgan's estate. She is looking for his grandmother and she is weak from fever. Soon he realizes that he is attracted to her, but he has better things to do than seducing innocent women. Better to send for someone who can introduce the lovely Arianna to society.

This book has another pace then the other two. There there were more "action" in one way. This one introduced the couple and the time they spent at Valleydale getting to know each other, and falling in love, whether they want it or not. That is the two first parts of the book, getting to know each other, starting with the sexual tension and then the last part that is set in London. Here the danger starts, it all has to do with her father's work in India and the reason why she has come to London.

Arianna is sweet, she may be a blushing virgin but she does not deny what she is feeling for him. And Morgan, well I do like he eagerness to preserve her innocence. He seems honorable (but well we all know he is not gonna be able to keep that up for long.)

This is sweet romance, I do not mind things going slowly or it not being steamy (I did have that earlier talk about how conservative I get sometimes, lol.) There is some passion in the latter part of the book, fear not those who want that. But I think the sweetness is the thing about this book just as that is her name.

When thinking about all 3 books, then I think number 2 was my favorite of the three, and these two can share the second place. They do not need to be read in order. Even if I hadn't known anything I could have read this one without the rest. But then I love order and could never read a book out of order.

Review: A certain Wolfish Charm - Lydia Dare

A certain Wolfish Charm - Lydia Dare

Genre: Historical paranormal romance
Pages: 352
Published: April 6th 2010 by Sourcebooks Casablanca

He gets crankier and crankier as the moon gets full...

The rules of Society can be beastly-especially when you're a werewolf and it's that irritating time of the month. Simon Westfield, the Duke of Blackmoor, is rich, powerful, and sinfully handsome, and has spent his entire life creating scandal and mayhem. It doesn't help his wolfish temper at all that Miss Lily Rutledge seems not the least bit afraid of him, and in fact, may be as untamable as he is...

A woman whose charm is stronger than the moon...

When Lily's beloved nephew's behavior becomes inexplicably wild, she turns to Simon, the boy's cousin and guardian, for help. But Simon's idea of assistance is far different than hers, and Lily finds herself ensconced in his house and engaged to the rogue.

They both may have bitten off more than they can chew when each begins to discover the other's darkest secrets.

When I first heard of this one I wanted to read it at once. First historical, second, werewolves. Two of my favorite subjects.

The book starts with Lily Rutledge, the guardian of a young Earl, who is also her nephew. He is behaving in an odd way, and he is growing really fast. She has been trying to get a hold of his other guardian, Simon Westfield, his father's cousin. But the Duke rather spends his time gambling and fooling around with women. What is a woman to do than to go straight to the source and give him a piece of her mind.  There the story takes off and he is attracted to her at once.

Lily is a strong independent woman who has come to terms that she will be on that shelf for the rest of her life. She has no suitors, she has no dowry. No one has ever paid any real attention to her. But along comes a handsome duke who is following her around with his eyes. He wants her and he does everything to show her just that. But she is not any woman, all or nothing. I do like her, she is strong, she has flaws, but they come natural.

Simon is, well yes wild, womanizer and all that. He can also get really aggressive. That is because of his hidden nature. We learn quickly that he is a werewolf, no need to hide that. But nobody knows that they exist and they want to keep it that way. He knows he can never be what she want and he is afraid to hurt her. I like him, but then he is the big bad alpha and who can say no to that.

Two minds, two hearts, they both want the same thing but the road will take some twist and turns before they get there. Some passion is promised. This books also has some great side characters and I can't wait to read book 3 that is about William and Prisca. William is so fun and he tries to soothe Lily in this book, and Priscilla and him is always bantering.

This was a sweet book and fun too. It had some tension since some want one thing and the other another thing. And then there is the big bad secret that Lily wants to know about.

I also like the idea of the traditional regency novel transformed into a paranormal romance. The werewolves fitted perfectly into this story.

I am looking forward to book 2, and Benjamin, the brother not present in this book.

Blodeuedd's Cover Corner: Do no know if you can see it, but chest hair alert! Yes he has plenty on those pecs. I like it, a real werewolf has some hair on his chest. And we get to see a human head and not a torso. Always good.
Reason for Reading: Review copy from the publisher.
Final thoughts: If you want some paranormal with your historical then this something to try
Final grade: 3,5

Happy Easter!!! With some tradtions from my part of the world

Happy Easter!
pics have been removed....

I was thinking, why not share some Easter traditions with you all. Of course all these are not  exactly Finnish traditions since I am Finnish, but not Finnish by blood. I am a Swedish speaking Finn, but they are not Swedish traditions either. Since not all of us came from Sweden, we were German merchants and Dutch miners, and so on. They traditions are how we made them, and how others forgot them, or changed them. And they differ from the north to the south, from village to village. So in the end this is the tradition from my village. I do not want to talk for the whole people even if things are the same.

It all starts during Easter Week when we decorate with treebranches that later bloom, Easter grass and the usual chickens and such.

On Thursday the witches leave for "Bluehill" to dance with the devil so you better stay inside then.

On Friday we do nothing.
On Saturday Morning the Easter rooster has laid some eggs filled with candy, yum!

Do forgive him, he is usually not so serious looking.

Of course my boyfriend, who is from the same area, but is an islander tells me that this is not true. It is actually on Sunday it all happens. And it is the Easter bunny that brings eggs and puts them in rubberboots, but that is just plain silly. Those islanders ;)

On Saturday the children dress up as Easter witches. The children have their little teapots and walk from house to house getting candy. The Finnish traditions is to have those branches and give them to people. We never did.

To dress up like that which is evil is always a good idea to scare away everything dark that is around during this day.

When we have Easter dinner we eat memma/mämmi.  It is made from rye flour and malt.

Yes I know it looks totally gross, and trust me, looks like cowshit. I never eat it. People either love it or hate it.

And then later we watch Easter bonfires.

And do not forget to paint some Easter eggs.

GLAD PÃ…SK!!!

Review: Shadow Kiss - Richelle Mead

Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead
Vampire Academy, 3

Genre: Paranormal romance/YA
Pages: 443
Published: 2008

It's springtime at St. Vladimir's Academy, and Rose Hathaway is this close to graduation. Since Mason's death, Rose hasn't been feeling quite right. She has dark flashbacks in the middle of practice, can't concentrate in class, and has terrifying dreams about Lissa. But Rose has an even bigger secret .... She's in love with Dimitri. And this time, it-s way more than a crush. Then Strigoi target the academy in the deadliest attack in Moroi history, and Dimitri is taken. Rose must protect Lissa at all costs, but keeping her best friend safe could mean losing Dimitri forever...

You might remember that I was not that excited over the first 2 books. This one was better, but...I'll just begin.

The first drama was so unnecessary and stupid. if Rose had just said what was up nothing would have happen. And the reason for not saying anything, drama over nothing. I started grinding my teeth and thinking I would be annoyed for the rest of the book. But it got better and in the end I felt this was an ok book.

Rose will get to practice some when they get 6 weeks of intense guarding duty. They can't be attacked by "Strigoi" at any moment and must protect their Moroi. Everything would be fine if Rose wasn't feeling so strange and is not doing so well. Could that mean she will not be able to graduate? She can't mess this up. Then there is those feelings for Dimitri and she wants him more than ever.

Yes she is an immature idiot, but I must say she (after that first idiotic first 100 pages where I wanted to slap her for being so daft) has improved. Yes I do not feel she is such an idiot, or slutty anymore. And the whole mean girls vampire vibe is gone too.

Left it this romance that I just do not see. Yes I see that she wants to jump his bones but I can't feel that he wants anything really. Nope no chemistry. Also she is like 13, well in the way she acts, and he is so much more immature than his age so that puts him at..35, you get my point. It would be fine if she acted her age and he acted his age. But they do not and I get this icky feeling when he wants her. I get why she want him since he is hot.

Other than those things I like Lissa and Christian and now I feel that Rose shoudl just be with Adrian, he seems to be closer to her mental age. Seeing Mia again and how nice she is, not a fan of mean girl gone good.

But it was ok, some danger and some romance. And it ended with such a cliffhanger, what an evil woman. I can't wait for the next book that comes out here in August (cos not loving them enough to buy.)

Blodeuedd's Cover Corner: Liking this one more than that other one. On a side note the Swedish covers suck!Let me show you.

They are all the same photo, only the color changes! That is just silly.

Reason for Reading: Library Book
Final thoughts: It was ok, improvement from the other two.
