Review: Wolfishly Yours - Lydia Dare

Accustomed to running wild with her Lycan brothers in the swamps of Louisiana, Miss Liviana Mayeux is shipped off to London where Lady Hadley offers to sponsor and assist her. Before she knows it, Vivi finds herself in the middle of a pack of English wolves who are all vying for her attention. But Lady Hadley's handsome son Grayson is determined to keep her out of trouble. If only he knew how...

My thoughts:
Lycans, how can I not love them. Here we meet Grayson (introduced in previous books) and he is getting his match.

If you have read Dare's book you know what to expect, if not, then I will tell you. There is humour, banter, flirting, fun, werewolves trying to behave and romance.

Grayson Hadley drinks, gambles and is not the kind of man mothers introduce daughters too. But he is kind and well, he is a Lycan. He does try his best to behave and now and his brother even have a tutor to help them along. I like him, he knows what he wants.

Liviana is an American sent to England to learn proper manners. Yes you see a pattern here. At one time she say something that, well trust me it will be good. She is not timid and proper. And in the end she is everything a Lycan would want. I also liked that she knew his secret from start.

When these two meet there is a clash of wills. The romance grows, which I liked, because things does not happen at once. Though if I would say something negative is that Livi does something at one point that had me really disappointed. Have some faith woman!

Also, it does work as a standalone

Conclusion:
Dare does it again. She knows her Lycans

Review: The Wolf who loved me - Lydia Dare

A new sexy Regency paranormal trilogy by bestselling author Lydia Dare features hunky werewolves who need to learn how to behave in polite society. Can this pack of 'gentlemen' be trained in the ways of the ton, or is it too late to teach an old Lycan new tricks?

Lady Madeline Hayburn is called upon to lend her respectability and introduce the Hadley brothers to society. Mr. Weston Hadley admires her from afar, yet his very presence draws her in...

Series: Westfield Wolves #5, Genre: Historical paranormal romance, Pages: 420, Published: April 3, 2012, Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca, Source: For review
My thoughts:
Yes this is part of a series, but it can be just as well be read as a standalone since it is also starting a new trilogy. To make a long story short, first there were the 3 Westfield Brothers, then we had Dash who stood a bit alone, then we got 3 vampire books with the remaining witches and now we have 3 more brothers (related to Dash)and they will find love. I made it sound complicated didn't it? Anyway, it works on its on in the end.

We met the brothers in previous books and they are just rakes and bad ton, not to mention they are broke. But Weston has been in love with Madeleine for years but she is the daughter of a Duke and he is a nobody. A bad boy, and I do love to see them change. While Maddie is a little princess, but at least she knows that she does not want to marry the idiots her father wants her to marry. Yes he makes rash decisions, but he is honorable and she is falling for him. And I do like the ones were they do fall fast, but at the same time they (well one of them) do not like each other. He can't just snap a finger and make her love him.

In this one I also saw who is brother Archer will fall for and that only leaves one brother, and I do wonder who his lady will be. But that is for later books and this is now, and once again I like Dare's easy style, the passion between the couple and sprinkle of paranormal. He might be a werewolf but it does not take over. It's a historical romance with paranormal elements. Elements that fits so easily that I could easily think there are werewolves hidden there.

Conclusion:
I am happy with this latest installment and I am looking forward to more. Dare's werewolf are just too sexy!

Review: Never Been Bit - Lydia Dare

Series: Regency Vampyre trilogy #3
Genre: Historical paranormal romance
Pages: 384
Published: September 1, 2011
Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca
Source: For review

This is the third in a trilogy of vampire Regency romances, where the glittering world of English high society is a playground for the rich, titled, and undead. Vampire Alec McQuarrie's heart was broken long before it stopped beating. Now Alec's after-life is an endless search for pleasure. Young witch Sorcha Ferguson has come to London in search of a man, beast–or even a blood sucker–of her very own...

My thoughts:
This is the last book about the witches since they have all found love now. I always liked Sorcha, from the start when I met her in the Lycan series to this series. She always wanted what her friends got, a lycan of her own. And that is what she sets her sights on in this book, the Hadley brothers to be precise.

Sorcha is always so kind and sweet, and funny too. She has matured a lot during these books, but she still has that stubborn streak that makes her who she is. And when she wants a lycan she wants a lycan. Because of who she is she might just be my favourite witch of them all. Alec then, well when I first met him he was running after Cait and was quite the fool. Then he became a vampyre and got all broody and sexy. He still thinks he will never find love again, but he still wants to protect Sorcha from the dogs. And these two together, well I am happy to see Alec find love and for Sorcha to finally fall in love. They do make a good couple.

When this series is finished I am happy that I know that there will be more. Another lycan trilogy with the bad boys of the ton. I can't wait. I do like Lydia Dare's books, they are fun, they are sweet and I like that there is more to come.

Even if you have not read this series you can still jump right in. Or start at the beginning of this series, or just go back and start with the Lycan one. If you want to read a cute paranormal historical then this might just do the trick. And if you have read the other books then you will surely like this one too.

Conclusion:
A sweet ending to this vampire series. Just what I wanted.

Nice :)

Book Review: In the Heat of the Bite - Lydia Dare

Series: Regency Vampyre 2
Genre: Historical paranormal romance
Pages: 384
Published: July 1st 2011 Sourcebooks Casablanca

Matthew Halkett, Earl of Blodswell, is one of the few men in the ton who can claim to be a knight in shining armor- because that's precisely what he was before being turned into a vampyre. When he spies a damsel in distress in the midst of a storm in Hyde Park, his natural instinct is to rush to her aid...

Weather-controlling witch Rhiannon Sinclair isn't caught in a storm-she's the cause of it. She's mortified to have been caught making trouble by the imposing earl, but she doesn't need any man-never has, and is sure she never will. But when Rhiannon encounters Matthew again, her powers go awry and his supernatural abilities run amok. Between the two of them, the ton is thrown into an uproar. There's never been a more tempestuous scandal.

My thoughts:
This book is a part of a series but you can read it as a standalone. But if you really want to dive into this world then I recommend the 4 Westfield Wolves books first to get to know our dear lycans and witches. But this series of course belong to the vampires.

Matthew Halkett is old, he has seen it all. He is this steady figure of reason and at the same time one tempting delicious vampire. I am drawn to him as a moth to a flame and much of has to do with how fast he falls for Rhiannon. Sure he has doubts but then he is a vampire who will live forever, while she is an innocent who will not. Oh yes Rhiannon, a Scottish witch with a temper. She can command thunder and lightning and sure does when she gets angry. And she is not afraid of a vampire when she has that at her command.

This world is lovely and cosy somehow. I already know the Lycans  (love them) and in this book we meet more. I sure hope Dare writes their story too because they are a fun bunch. The witches are fun and now when Rhiannon has found her man there is only Sorcha left and I can't wait for her story..and, oh just read the blurb. The vampires are a great addition to this world and I really enjoyed the banter between Matthew and the 4 Lycans he came across more times than he wanted. There is nothing like a brood of werewolves telling a vampire to back down ;)

The book has got a bit of humour, great friendships and passion. I did like how Matthew tried his best to be the perfect gentleman. Just a reason to like him even more.

Conclusion:
Lydia Dare does not disappoint. She (well they do) does it again and gives me a book that I read and time just disappears. There is always something that makes me want to read the next page and on. It kept me entertained and I read it in a heartbeat.

Rating.
Good

Review: It happened One Bite - Lydia Dare

Blaire Lindsay's been warned that her ancestral home is haunted. But it will take more than tales of a ghost to frighten Blaire, a battle-born witch with supernatural strength and the ability to make sparks fly from her fingertips. Hearing spectral wails, she decides to search for their source, and is surprised to find a handsome young man chained to the dungeon wall. But when Blair frees James from his bonds, she quickly discovers she's unloosed far more than she could ever have imagined. Soon the castle is overrun with vampires whose perfect manners and compelling blood lust make for some very awkward moments, and Blair and James are joined in the fight of their lives to save everything they hold dear from the forces of evil.

My thoughts:
I liked the werewolf books by Lydia Dare and I was curious about the vampire series and reading more about the witches. I never thought it, but I ended up liking this book even more than previous books.

In this book is Blaire's turn to find love. She can fight like a man, and she is not a lady even though her brother wants it. For that I did like Blaire, she was herself, she was strong and she was not about to let a man tell her what to do. Then there is James, the hero of the book, a vampyre that has been imprisoned in a dungeon for 20 years, put their by Blaire's mum and her coven. Even though he does hold a grudge, he is a sweet vamp.

But honestly the person I was the most fascinated by is Matthew Halkett, a very old vampire and who will be in the next book. I can't wait for his story.

Back to the book. James is hungry and not just for blood since he wants Blaire for more. They do their little dance. Then two more vampires show up and they are not nice at all. They want death and blood. There is danger, passion and at the end we meet up with old friends. Sorcha, who still love to flirt, Elspeth and Benjamin, and Alex, I am starting to get a bit interested in him, he is turning into something nice.

The best part about this book is that I just wanted more. I kept turning page after page to find out what is going to happen. The book has no dull moments and there is a flow, and you just want more.

Conclusion:
Dare manages to create a new fun series. Old friends, and no you do not need to have read the werewolf books, passion, magic and vampires. A fast read that I enjoyed.

Reason for reading:
I read her werewolf series

I do like the castle, but.....

Review: The Taming of the Wolf - Lydia Dare

Westfield Brothers, book 4

Genre: Historical paranormal romance
Pages: 384
Published: November 2010 Sourcebooks Casablanca

Lord Dashiel Thorpe has fought his true nature his entire life, but whenever the moonlight proves too powerful, Dashiel is unable to control the werewolf within him. It is on one such moonlit night that Dashiel accidentally bites the beautiful Scottish witch, Caitrin McLeod. Though now bound to him irrevocably, Cait decides that she wants nothing to do with him. When she flees to her native Scotland, Dashiel has no choice but to follow her and convince her that it was nothing short of destiny that has bound them together body and soul.

First my usual reassurance. Yes this is actually book 4 but fear not! You can read this as a standalone with any problems, the facts that are important are there, and of course it's a good way to get surprised too. But if the OCD hits you bad, then go and read book 1 and work up to this one. Or just jump in and have fun.

Plot:
Lord Dashiel is staying at the house of the Westfield brothers. He fears himself for what the beast could do and without thinking he bites Caitrin McLeod, a Scottish witch who flees from me. Now he must follow as he has claimed her as his mate, and there can never be anyone else.

My thoughts:
I liked the book from the start, but it took me a while to really enjoy it. Let me explain. Dashiel has claimed her and he knows he will never look at anyone else, but is he in love? That thought bothered me as he chased her and tried to get into her heart and bed. He needed to prove himself a bit more before I started enjoying the book, and then I did not stop reading before I hit the end.

Dashiel is a womanizing rake with a hidden side and he has a sad past. And no one ever taught him what a Lycan really is, so he has got issues and is afraid to harm Caitrin. I was on my guard when it came to him, but I must confess that it was fun to see him try anything to get near her. While Cait is not afraid to tell him what a brute, and hound he is. And that he should just go away, but at the same thing there was something there, building up, and those two needed each other. My fav part of the book were the chasing part, he is not a man to back down. Slowly I did what she did, I started falling for him, and as I did that I saw that he was changing too. Into a real man, and a real Lycan. I liked it. And what he needed was a woman that would speak her mind and not fall all over him.

Something else shows up in this book, I shall not say, but it bodes well for the next series from Lydia Dare. I wonder how that will be handled. I am rather intrigued.

The Lycans are an interesting bunch, and I do love and feel sad over the fact that they only love once. So beautiful and yet so tragic. Then there are the witches, and what is a book without real Scottish witches. They are a fun bunch, and I can't wait to see them fall in love too.

Recommendation and final thoughts:
I still like book 3 the best, the bantering was just so fun there. But this one comes as my second fav from Lydia Dare. It's fun, there is passion, and hearts that can't make up their minds. It will get a 3,5 from me, because I always reach that point where I do not want to put it down anymore. The book also feels very different from usual paranomals. It's lighter some way. So both paranormal lovers and historical lovers can like this book.

Will I read more, yes.

Cover: The cover actually differ from mine. It's nice, but I kind of liked my cover more, she looked a but more..nice. Still the yellow is really nice and it has the same format as the other covers.

The Quote might differ in the actual version of the book.
Quote I remember:
"Naughty little girls who tease big, bad wolves deserves to be mauled," he said, a half-smile upon his face.

ARC Review: The Wolf Next Door - Lydia Dare

The Wolf Next Door by Lydia Dare
The Westfield Brothers 3

Genre: Historical paranormal romance
Pages: 384
Published: June 1st 2010 by Sourcebooks Casablanca

Rogue, Rake…Werewolf. Years ago on a full moon, Lord William Westfield gave way to his inner beast and nearly ruined young Prisca Hawthorne. Knowing he can never trust himself in the arms of the woman he loves, he throws himself into a debauched lifestyle. When Westfield discovers he has a rival for Prisca's love, he decides if she's going to marry a Lycan it damn well better be him. But time is running out as Prisca's other suitor takes an instant and potentially fatal dislike to Westfield.

I must say that this was my favourite book of the 3. Why, well everyone that have read them know about William and Prisca, their constant banter and how they seem to loathe each other, but at the same time they do seem to like each other...a lot. With that in mind I started this book.

We finally get an explanation why Prisca takes every opportunity she gets so verbally abuse William. There was a failed elopement years ago, and neither got over that. It is obvious that they still have feelings for each other, but Prisca does not trust him, and William is a notorious rake by now.

Her brothers are finally tired of her and has a plan, marry her off to William. But there is another suitor, and he is one big bad wolf. William will not back down now. It's all or nothing, and he is not ready to loose her.

Like I said before I could not wait to read Prisca's and William's story because they are at each other all the time. I was wondering how they with their constant bickering could see past that and fall in love. Well I can tell you that is not an easy road. They are still bickering, and the tension is running high in this book.

Prisca is a nice heroine who is not afraid to speak her mind, even if that leads her into trouble. And William, oh he is such a flirt, but with such a good heart that it just makes me wanna hug him, and the smack him over the head.

This is a fun book, you know it with those two, she is always at his throat, and he is trying to seduce her one way or the other. There is the merry hunt, and what happens afterwards. And then there is the big bad wolf lurking in the shadows, wanting Prisca for himself.

These two made this book the best so far. It had something for everyone, werewolves (yay), damsels in distress, witty remarks, and some lines that nearly killed me from laughing. For example when she asks why he always has something in his pocket. That, lol, has to be read.

A good werewolf story set in the regency era, and a nice conclusion to the Westfield story. All brothers had something special, but I do think I am starting to like William the best after this.

Tensions are running high, when a wicked werewolf finally meets his match, and passion can't be denied no longer.

Blodeuedd's Cover Thoughts: Just look at her eyes.
Reason for reading: Copy from the publisher
Final thoughts: Do you want the a historical romance, but with a bit of extra? Then werewolves might just be for you....3,5

Guestblog: Lydia Dare + giveaway

Today I welcome Lydia Dare to my blog. The authors of A certain Wolfish Charm, Tall Dark and Wolfish and in June: The Wolf Next door. Be free to ask questions, and enter the contest at the bottom of this blog. Where you can win Tall, Dark and Wolfish.

It becomes apparent when you sit down to create a new world that you also have to create characters to fill that world.  In our series, creating the gentlemen Lycans was easy.  They were charming alpha-rakes who became wolves at “that time of the month.”  In the days leading up to the moonful, they get a little lusty, not to mention a little more surly.  But, aside from that, they’re fairly average men with the same wants and desires as the normal Regency rake.

In Tall, Dark and Wolfish, we wondered what might happen if a Lycan couldn’t change into Lycan form with the coming of the moonful.  It would certainly be like losing a part of his being, particularly with Benjamin. He liked being a Lycan and reveled in the moonful each month.  So, when it came time to change and he didn’t, he was heartbroken.

There were no apothecaries or physicians in Regency England who could heal his wolfish self, not to mention protect the side of himself that he has kept a secret for so long, so the idea of a healer was born. And what better healer could there be than the fiery red-head, Elspeth Campbell.  Of course, Ben is not at all aware he’s going to find the woman of his dreams; he simply thinks he’s looking for an old crone who can heal what ails him.

That’s how the coven was born. Còig is a Scots Gaelic word that means “five.” Of course having one solitary witch who could restore Benjamin to himself would be much more fun if there were more waiting in the shadows to get in the way of his budding relationship with Elspeth.  Give them each their own powers and it became even more interesting.

Each witch has her own special powers, as did their mothers before them.  Elspeth can heal with the tips of her fingers, or her heart as the case may be.  Caitrin can see the future, even though it may be difficult for her at times.  Blaire is super strong and can make sparks fly from her fingertips.  Rhiannon controls the weather, or at least her emotions do. And Sorcha can ask plants to do her bidding; they might bud, wither and die or stretch across the ground to entangle an overly-amorous Lycan.

Of course, once a character walks into a novel, readers (and the authors) tend to fall in love with them and want to see more of them.  So, when the witches walked into Tall, Dark and Wolfish, we knew they each needed their own story, mainly because it would be such a waste to not use all those spectacular talents to create future mayhem.

The members of the Còig came from our imaginations, but there is a bit of truth to the potions and plants they use to accomplish their goals. Not much truth, we admit, but there’s a bit. Eggs and blueberries are reported to be led by the moon, but we did take some creative liberty with them when Elspeth uses them in Tall, Dark and Wolfish. And, yes, we took liberties with other witchy characteristics as well. That’s the beauty of making up your own world – you get to populate it as well.

We hope you enjoy the antics of the Còig and that you want to read their stories, which will be out by the spring of 2011.

Review: Tall, Dark and Wolfish - Lydia Dare

Tall, Dark and Wolfish by Lydia Dare
Westfield brothers, book 2

Genre: Paranormal romance historical
Pages: 384
Published: May 2010 Sourcebooks Casablanca

The reckless, rakish younger brother of a powerful duke, Lord Benjamin Westfield transforms into a wolf under the light of the full moon—until one fateful evening when he doesn't change and his life is shattered. Fearing he may never be able to change again, Benjamin sets out for Scotland in search of a witch who can heal his inner beast. The noble werewolf is drawn to the beautiful young woman, but what does he have to offer in this broken state?

I heard about Benjamin in book 1, all I knew that he was somewhere in Scotland and his family didn't know where or why. Well this is the explanation. First he is of course a Lycan like his brothers, second, he can't transform any more after an incident with a woman. From a friend he learns that perhaps a healer/witch in Scotland can help.

Benjamin is like his brother in that aspect that he is afraid to love and be loved. He wants to control the beast and perhaps that is the problem. He is rather torn and lost when he can't change any more, and the rake in him seems to drift away cos of his loss.

But where would we be without some romance. The old healer he is looking for is a beautiful young woman and he is not called a rake for nothing. But when is love ever easy. This woman has a bunch of friends who are very protective and need her to stay with them. Even if that means sending away someone she loves. Yes they aren't that clever now are they, but they meant well, and I had trouble disliking them. I would also protect a friend, and they thought it was for the best. And they were just fun, I'd love to see them find love. Now that could be a cool spin-off.

Lord Benjamin, well I do like a werewolves, they are just so manly and not afraid to show it. Elspeth was sweet, and she truly did not stand a chance when he showed up. Of course who could resist a werewolf.

This book had the romance, and the wolves do tend to become very carnal when the moon is full as he puts it. I liked that they wanted to be with each other, and how the other girls got in the way. he had to fight some for his love. And of course he was also very stupid cos of his Lycan state, but he has to learn too,

One thing that I just had to get used to was that ye this was Scotland, so there was the accent. Luckily I had read this other book and was up to speed what it all meant. But I am glad it wasn't more of it.

This book had me reading like crazy at the beginning, I wanted her to find out about him being what he was, I mean she had to heal him. And the rest of the book I wanted to know if the witches would get in the way, or if anyone would do something stupid (heroes and heroines always do something stupid ;).

All in all a good shifter story and I do think I liked this more than book 1, I guess we just have to see if I( like book 3 even more. Nice historical setting, sweet romance, and cool shifters.

Blodeuedd's Cover Corner: Loving it, I am not just saying this cos I love the color green, but it is the green, and then her piercing green eyes and that castle ( and yes there was some man nipples too, but I honestly watched the castle.)
Reason for reading: From the publisher

Review: A certain Wolfish Charm - Lydia Dare

A certain Wolfish Charm - Lydia Dare

Genre: Historical paranormal romance
Pages: 352
Published: April 6th 2010 by Sourcebooks Casablanca

He gets crankier and crankier as the moon gets full...

The rules of Society can be beastly-especially when you're a werewolf and it's that irritating time of the month. Simon Westfield, the Duke of Blackmoor, is rich, powerful, and sinfully handsome, and has spent his entire life creating scandal and mayhem. It doesn't help his wolfish temper at all that Miss Lily Rutledge seems not the least bit afraid of him, and in fact, may be as untamable as he is...

A woman whose charm is stronger than the moon...

When Lily's beloved nephew's behavior becomes inexplicably wild, she turns to Simon, the boy's cousin and guardian, for help. But Simon's idea of assistance is far different than hers, and Lily finds herself ensconced in his house and engaged to the rogue.

They both may have bitten off more than they can chew when each begins to discover the other's darkest secrets.

When I first heard of this one I wanted to read it at once. First historical, second, werewolves. Two of my favorite subjects.

The book starts with Lily Rutledge, the guardian of a young Earl, who is also her nephew. He is behaving in an odd way, and he is growing really fast. She has been trying to get a hold of his other guardian, Simon Westfield, his father's cousin. But the Duke rather spends his time gambling and fooling around with women. What is a woman to do than to go straight to the source and give him a piece of her mind.  There the story takes off and he is attracted to her at once.

Lily is a strong independent woman who has come to terms that she will be on that shelf for the rest of her life. She has no suitors, she has no dowry. No one has ever paid any real attention to her. But along comes a handsome duke who is following her around with his eyes. He wants her and he does everything to show her just that. But she is not any woman, all or nothing. I do like her, she is strong, she has flaws, but they come natural.

Simon is, well yes wild, womanizer and all that. He can also get really aggressive. That is because of his hidden nature. We learn quickly that he is a werewolf, no need to hide that. But nobody knows that they exist and they want to keep it that way. He knows he can never be what she want and he is afraid to hurt her. I like him, but then he is the big bad alpha and who can say no to that.

Two minds, two hearts, they both want the same thing but the road will take some twist and turns before they get there. Some passion is promised. This books also has some great side characters and I can't wait to read book 3 that is about William and Prisca. William is so fun and he tries to soothe Lily in this book, and Priscilla and him is always bantering.

This was a sweet book and fun too. It had some tension since some want one thing and the other another thing. And then there is the big bad secret that Lily wants to know about.

I also like the idea of the traditional regency novel transformed into a paranormal romance. The werewolves fitted perfectly into this story.

I am looking forward to book 2, and Benjamin, the brother not present in this book.

Blodeuedd's Cover Corner: Do no know if you can see it, but chest hair alert! Yes he has plenty on those pecs. I like it, a real werewolf has some hair on his chest. And we get to see a human head and not a torso. Always good.
Reason for Reading: Review copy from the publisher.
Final thoughts: If you want some paranormal with your historical then this something to try
