TMST: Book Covers

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post on Rainy Day Ramblings where Rainy discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.

August 28th: Does it bother you when a book cover doesn't fit the characters in the book?

Yes and No.

We will start with no first. No, because sometimes I do not even realise it until someone points it out *headdesk* yes my head is in the clouds. Then someone points it out and I was all what?  That is how much thought I put into how people look in books.

Yes, because it should represent the person in the book. Let me show one example that did bug me.

The beginning. Then her boobs grew, and they still did not get her right. But then, yes, they got it right. Kate finally emerged.

So yes it should matter. Even if I will not always realise it it might not be right.

Edit. Oh I also came to think about small things, cos they bother me too. Like when someone are wearing the wrong clothes for the era, or something the main would never wear and things like that

  1. Every once in awhile I'll get in a dither because the cover doesn't match, but these days I'm more likely to be bothered if the facts for the era are wrong, and I'm the same way with movies. Covers sure have changed from 20-30 years ago though. Hugs...RO

    1. I just read this book and it kept nagging me how modern the teens were...in an era where there weren't teens

  2. I notice bad covers more when it is for an author I'm not familiar with. I never really paid a huge amount of attention to Kate's covers, because I just wanted to get into the stories. I can't remember how many different models they had, I know I read it somewhere.

  3. That's why I prefer covers that don't feature people.

  4. It used to really bug me when all we had were print copies and I'd see a blonde heroine on the cover and know she was brunette. But now I rarely see the covers bc I review them months before they're published. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Blodeuedd

    1. When it comes to audio I pay no attention at all, as I do not see them before I post my review

  6. I read so many ebooks now and I don't even see the covers in those. And in romance especially - they are just a series of hunky, headless guys so I don't even look anymore lol

  7. I was never a fan of the early Kate Daniels covers, I never noticed her boobs grew and shrank until you pointed it out. The last three or four covers were good. Too bad they didn’t get them right from the beginning.

  9. I've noticed when cover models change in a series or when the era is wrong. But, the one that gets me is when there is a guy on the cover when the main character is the woman and the guy is secondary.

    1. That did not bug me before, but lately when there is this guy on the cover I am all hey, where is the heroine!

  10. LOL! I am definitely attracted to pretty covers, but I can't say I've ever given much thought to the way the characters look on them. Certainly I've never noticed the boobs on Kate Daniels until you pointed them out :P

  11. I think covers should match the book and if they portray characters then they gotta match!

  13. Well I hope you are happy. I have spent an awful lot of time looking at Kate's BOOBS!

  14. The only time it really bothers me is if the character is described a certain way, like red hair, or dark skin, and you get the opposite. Of course I think they cover artists purposely put a hat on Dresden because he specifically says he'd never wear a hat!
