July 21st: What ruins a good read for you?
July 21st: What ruins a good read for you?
Omg SO many things. And of course when I have to think of it I have nothing.
Bad writing. Some writers should not be allowed to write. But then that is not a good read because that you see at once. Like the first sentence
A good book with a bad ending. FU BOOK!
Still angry about this one, gods, so many books ruined because of bad endings. There are series that have been ruined this way for me. Ugh. SO many books ruined.
In fantasy, violence and rape that is just there for the sake of it.
Jumping in time! Recently this has started to bug me.It can make some books confusing.
Weird names, all the time, in fantasy, and too many povs. Like a 100. Sometimes it works, sometiems not,
Yes to the jumping in time - and not in a sci-fi way, but as a means to forward the plot.
ReplyDeleteI recently read one and there was this constant jumping that did not make sense
DeleteGreat post and the weird names and bad endings make me want to throw my kindle against a wall :) xo
ReplyDeleteUgh bad endings
DeleteYeah, there are just too many to mention. I'm going to try to find time to do this one later today.

DeleteDefinitely bad writing and characters that I don't like!

Delete"A good book with a bad ending. FU BOOK!" Oh my gosh this made me laugh so hard! :)
ReplyDeleteLOl, well I feel that so often
DeleteYes! A bad ending will definitely ruin a series or just one book! Totally agree about weird names or one that is spelled weird. I trip over it every time I read it and it slows the plot for me.
ReplyDeleteI get that fantasy, weird names, but when they all blend together and you can't remember who is who then it is hard
DeleteGreat list of hates - me too.
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteIt feels like such a betrayal to be loving a book and the writing only to have the ending or something late in the book really give one a sour taste. Good answer.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've dropped rating on a few books that started the hopping forward and skimming over important stuff.
I know right, I had this great series and the end just sucked SO MUCH
DeleteA cliffhanger will ruin a book for me.
ReplyDeleteGood one
