Saturday Movie Night: Room

Hello everyone! This month Carole and I are reviewing, Room. I am pink and Carole green.

Title:  Room
Genre: Drama
Running Time: 1 hour and 58 mins
Rating: R
Released: 2015

the extraordinary story of Jack, a spirited 5-year-old who is looked after by his loving and devoted mother. Like any good mother, Ma dedicates herself to keeping Jack happy and safe, nurturing him with warmth and love and doing typical things like playing games and telling stories. Their life, however, is anything but typical--they are trapped--confined to a 10-by-10-foot space that Ma has euphemistically named Room. Ma has created a whole universe for Jack within Room, and she will stop at nothing to ensure that, even in this treacherous environment, Jack is able to live a complete and fulfilling life. But as Jack's curiosity about their situation grows, and Ma's resilience reaches its breaking point, they enact a risky plan to escape, ultimately bringing them face-to-face with what may turn out to be the scariest thing yet: the real world.

DISCUSSION:

Well...holy feels all over the place with this one.

I really liked the book it was based on, so I knew it would be emotional. But I must say the book was better. There was this feeling there that the movie just could not portray. But omg. It made me cry a lot.

I have heard of the book but I have not read it myself. I want to, I am adding it to my TBR. Books are 99.9% always better than the movie. But I feel this was really well done. It was pretty cool and interesting that they did the movie through the boys eyes. Normally with stories like this it is in the adults eyes. Poor kid. Poor lady.

That is how the book was, and that is why some did not like it because of his simple language and views. I thought it great, because it took away some of the horror at times. He was just innocent and did not really know what was going on. Especially when he was in the closet. I am glad they kept it.

I’m glad that they kept it then. Sure the lady’s story is a heart-wrenching story too, but the innocence of the little boy really crushed my heart in both a sad and happy way. They picked the cutest little boy and he did really well.

The mum’s story sure made me cry too, but this was his story more, and that was good. I liked to see him moving on. Her story in all its tragedy was just so sad. I did not need to cry more.

I can’t even imagine going through that! How horrible. How sad. That dad (her dad, his gramps) made me want to kick him! GAH! I was furious at him.

I can totally understand him, but arghhh *kicks him* Not cool man. Also that woman who did the interview, effing B%¤&¤!

OMG I KNOW! I was yelling at the screen!!!! What a witch!!!!!!!! Like...if I was the lawyer I would’ve flown into a rage and canceled the interview. Terrible and horrific questions.

Like there was a choice. Like she could have trusted that other choice if made. How could that woman even ask that. Yes the lawyer should just have kicked them out.

The baddie would’ve just killed the kid. So that was not even a choice. Plus that kid is young enough and he can recoup...what BS questions. SMH I’m still angry! LOL

Exactly! Like he would have brought him somewhere where they would like DNA test him. As if. You do not leave a trail like that. It just broke me when I saw how sad she got. How she thought it would have been better.

That mum and her parents had so much guilt and the boy was just so confused about everything. SO SAD BUT SO GOOD!

I really liked how her mum’s new man was the one who made an effort at first. And gran of course. That made me happy.

Yes I loved the stepgramp and the grandma. They were sweet. I loved the scene with the boy and the grandma. I cried happy tears.

It was so lovely to see, and then when he said he loved her. Omg, getting tears again.

GAH! Now you got me going. *sniff* But yes, they really were good to that boy. Dumb gramps. >_> I love the actor, but I’m so annoyed.

It’s tough to handle. Seeing your daughter, her son. Knowing…

I know, I know, but he should realize that little boy was her angel and he saved her. She would’ve never gotten free. She would’ve died alone in there.

Old Nick would probably have killed her before and gotten someone else.

For sure. She was getting old...she was 24 after all…...but I hated that name they gave the baddie. I feel like it is forever going to ruin Xmas for the boy! D:

Santa is creepy too

TRUE BUT it is even more creepy now that “Old Nick” gets you locked in the closet and is bad to your mum……….I hope that perv got thrown in jail. I do wish the movie gave more of an answer for what happened to the bad man

They did catch him, but all I thought was, for how long will he be in? When he gets out can he get custody just to eff with her? Horrible thought

I don’t think he could get custody but IDK how long he will be in jail. I believe this was set in Ohio and they do not have the death penalty….so prolly 20 years in jail and then he’s free to kidnap another girl. SMH.

These days you never know. I mean a woman is just an incubator after all.
Life sentence asshole! I hope someone killed him in jail.

Me too! Crimes like that are horrible.

So any final thoughts? I thought it was good and yes made me cry a lot.

Mmmm, I do want to watch it again. It is worth another watch. That is all I got. You?
I could not handle watching it again. Especially not with preggo hormones. But watch it, or read the book. Definitely a recommendation.

LOL that is true. Those preggo hormones are crazy ;D. But even with no preggo hormones I was a wreck! Good movie all-in-all. The end?

DISCUSSION:
C: Now...this was a long time coming! I have been waiting for years for them to give some sort of closure/continuation of the show!

B: I can honestly not remember the end of the last season so for me it was a pleasant surprise.

C: I remember a wee bit. It's been SO long...so I think I forgot a lot.

C: Valid, valid. Now. What did you think about the structure of each episode/movie? Each one was over an hour long and took place in each season.
B: Eh, new eps, new life, all the better :D

B: They did feel looong, I would rather have had more eps. Now they were mini movies and sort of slow at times. But I did like the seasonal thing.

C: I think I would have preferred more episodes instead of short movies. I liked how they structured each piece IE Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. However, you are right...some parts dragged...especially in the first and last one.

B: They all blur together now, do I can not remember what dragged, except for the musical, snooooooze fest

B: It felt like they had nothing else to show so they invented that stupid musical! I was not really a fan of the Wild thing either.

C: . I hated the musical part. Like...it was so unnecessary to the whole plot. Ugh. I get that the one song had “meaning” and blah blah blah, but they could have cut out the rest of the musical bits. Too long.
C: Hahaha you are bad ;) I like Luke a lot. However, I am not the biggest fan of Lorelai (*gasps ensue*) I know, I know...she is like the main character next to Rory. But...I feel like she treats Luke like crap. And she horrid to her parents (which I get they have a bad relationship, but eh).
C: MMhmmmm I was neutral. I hated how it made Luke feel. But I think it was good for her...GAH so hard not to give spoilers….as a character. B: You know what, speaking of that, I am not a fan of them. They make me feel meh. I always wanted them to date but when they finally did I was all eh, bored now.
C: LOL the parents are stupid, but the whole funeral scene was so wow. You can’t think of one thing? ONE THING? >_< Yes, what Luke said wasn’t nice. BUT that was their original plan set down by Lorelai. They have separate lives and they come together at nighttime and sleep. I think they are both selfish people….but Lorelai is worse. She only ever considers Rory. Don’t mind my deep rooted contempt of her. XD
B: No comment on the parents, they have a bad relationship. As for her and Luke, well I still remember what he said. I take care of mine, you take care of yours. That had to stung. I also felt like they had grown apart. Sad but true. But the end gave me hope B: LOL, OMG. Let us agree to disagree, I like Lorelai more than Rory ;) I think Rory was a leaf in the wind in these eps. How could she be so unsuccessful?
C: Yesss! It killed me! Like….WTF? WHY? Rory is not a stupid girl...but she acted SO stupid. The ending. GRRRR!
C: Haha. Finnneeeee ;) I like Rory, but she bugs me with her love issues. I’m not sure how I feel how they made her unsuccessful and flighty. It seems SO not her. B: I thought she would be on top of the world, and she was just SO not. I did like her storyline in that aspect. I expected more. C: In a way, it made the show more interesting to see her be at her lowest. It was not AT all what I was expecting. B: True, it made for a good story, but it was just so not her. Not even to mention her lovelife, wtf, not cool.
C: Nope. Same here. BTW - which of Rory’s bfs was/is your favorite and least favorite? My favorite was Jesse (I liked Dean a lot too) and my least favorite is Logan. My hatred for Logan is like a dead red rose…..lolllll
B: That ending messed it up! I did NOT like it. It felt cliche and ugh no. I have seen that. C: Sad thing is I totally called it was going to happen, but I didn’t think they actually would do it. There was a huge foreshadow about 15 mins before the ending. I legit said, “No...they better not.” ugh and they did it. No. B: We all know how the history will end… C: Yup….I can already see how the future eppies are going to end up looking like. Sighs. However, I am a fan I know I’ll watch it. B: I will watch too, but I am not looking forward to it now

B: I lost all respect for Logan. I did not like how she and Dean had that thing. I am not really a fan of her and Jesse, but he is her Luke and after she has tried a few they will end up together. I want a new boyfriend, and not Paul ;)
C: Paul? Who’s that?.......BAHAHAHA! I think I’m funny today. But I can get behind a new and better BF for Rory B: That was honestly so weird, poor Paul.
C: I’m done. It was good, but it could have been better. Hopefully the next eppies don’t do what I think they are going to do.
C: Hahaha I thought it was hilarious. XD Mainly bc I had an ex with that name and he was nice like him, but forgettable. I barely can even remember what he looks like. B: Bad you ;) Done? C: *fingers crossed* The end?
B: The end

DISCUSSION:

C: Welcome one and all. Just an fyi...B picked this one. LOL

B: Whaaat, it was the perfect movie to review ;)

C: Hehehehe. It was for sure a good one to check out. But I’m just saying ;)

B: It was amusing to watch, but would I recommend it...eh, LOL

C: I would recommend it for one and one reason only….because I want to know what they think.

B: hat is a good reason. BF was all, wtf are we watching, and then he laughed.

C: I was rude and watched this without BF and now he’s mad. So I am going to have to rewatch it! LOL

B: Bad Carole, it was totally a movie you need to watch with someone else!

C: I know, I know. But I actually don’t mind watching it again especially with knowing what I know with the ending. It will be interesting to see.

B: It sure was one of the weirdest movies I have watched.

C: Same. I wasn’t sure what was going on and if it was true. But that was a good ending for sure. What do you think?

B: The ending was effed up! Honestly. I am so confused.

C: And that is why I liked it. LOLLLLL!!  The whole movie was effed up. I can never look at Harry P---I mean Daniel Radcliffe the same! Especially with the lake scene…..eww harry---I mean hairy butt. D:

B: He did not do a lot of acting now did he, lol. Gods, this movie. You really have to see it to understand how weird it is.

C: Yes, he did little acting. I do wish we knew more about the character before he became a dead body. :/ BTW - poor Hank! I don’t think I would have survived.

B: At first I was all poor Hank, but then at the end when I realised things...well, Hank was just weird. Saying no more

C: I mean - its not his fault...but ya - he was weird and it was his fault he got into that situation. Rule 1...never get on a boat ALONE, because shit will happen.

B: On the other hand, was he ever on an island? And how far away? We really know nothing.

C: True, true. The whole story about him on a boat could have been a lie.

B: We only saw the beach, maybe it was like 1 min swimming from another beach ;) OR in the middle of nowhere cos he was an idiot who went out in a boat

C: LOL it could have been either or. You know what really confused me? The “powers” of the dead body. Like….how and why would you drink that water coming from his mouth???? I wanted to puke.

B: Hank is obviously gonna die soon….but how long was he really in the woods? Then again he did a lot there. But then again, oh those powers were weird. The pointy thing, ahem, that I understood when they got back to the beach.

C: I don’t think he was gone for too long. But that is just me. And where did he get a perfectly working shaver to do such a clean shave on his face??

B: True! Maybe he snuck out and drank water and shaved when we were not watching ;) But then the movie is not meant to be understood. I mean, the ending, come on!

C: Agreed. I think the movie is left up to the watcher to decide. I think it is all how we view it. I did like the message the film was trying to give out. It was nice.

B: It gave a message?

C: Yea! You didn’t catch it? It is okay to be oneself and to love.

B: I did watch it two weeks ago ;) And mostly thought it was weird.

C: Hahaha. True and I just watched it last night. The message was subtle.

B: I do see it. I just wonder what happened to him in the end.

C: Maybe he went back to the island and spread his message of love and being accepted to others who have been stranded! LMAO Hank is in an asylum for sure.

B: Poor Hank, but yes he is not running around the woods anymore for sure. Maybe he is happy now. As for Harry Potter, still out there spreading love around

C: LOL! Yup. That is what I am going with.

B: Strangest movie ever then. Do watch it folks, it is weird.

C: Yes...but a must see! I’ll be watching it again tonight. Sighs. XD Did you want to add anything else?

B: No, I hope more watch it and will be grossed out, laugh and wonder.

C: Awwwe. Fun. Good pick. I’m still grossed out...but I’m glad I gave it a shot! Onto the next movie!

B: Onward!

C: The end?

B: The end
