Joint Discussion: Etched in Bone by Anne Bishop

Hello all! Carole  and I will be discussing "Etched in Bone" by Anne Bishop. I am in red and Carole in purple.

Etched in Bone (The Others, #5)
Author: Anne Bishop
Narrator: Alexandra Harris
Title: Etched in Bone
(The Others #5)
Genre: Paranormal, UF, Fantasy, & romance
Published:  March 7th 2017
Pages: Audiobook

After a human uprising was brutally put down by the Elders—a primitive and lethal form of the Others—the few cities left under human control are far-flung. And the people within them now know to fear the no-man’s-land beyond their borders—and the darkness…

As some communities struggle to rebuild, Lakeside Courtyard has emerged relatively unscathed, though Simon Wolfgard, its wolf shifter leader, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn must work with the human pack to maintain the fragile peace. But all their efforts are threatened when Lieutenant Montgomery’s shady brother arrives, looking for a free ride and easy pickings.

With the humans on guard against one of their own, tensions rise, drawing the attention of the Elders, who are curious about the effect such an insignificant predator can have on a pack. But Meg knows the dangers, for she has seen in the cards how it will all end—with her standing beside a grave

Holy meatsticks, is that Cyrus human the stupidest human in the universe? Yes he was evil, but also so dense, wtf man those are predators, you do not cut yourself and then swim among sharks.

He is an idiot!! I don’t know why (well I do know why) they wouldn’t just eat him the first time he messed up.

So I get that they wanted to observe him, but then the rest should have taken care. Protect the weak!

Yess. I get wanting to observe him, but within 5 secs he was already causing issues. So his chances should’ve been done.

Just eat him and that effing creepy kid of his. Gods below and beyond how much I hated him. He was just so, I wanted to shake some sense and fear into him and then let him become dinner.

Yesss. I felt so bad for the little girl. Awww. :(

She is better without her stupid family, maybe she will stand a chance then. Let the rest rot. I could talk about how stupid Cyrus is all day long

Me too. I hated him! Hopefully she will be able to become a good person and an addition to society. I felt bad for Ciara, but I wanted to shake her. Maybe she’ll be okay now. But ugh.

She was messed up, I felt sorry for her, he really did a number on her. Honestly, at times I worried that he had fathered her children too. I would totally have thought that of that asshole.

OMG I WAS HAVING THOSE WORRIES TOO! I wouldn’t doubt it. I guess we’ll never really know. He was terrible to her and to everyone. Especially women. How did such a strong and smart woman raise such a monster of a boy??? And how did he survive up to now?

He did seem to have the luck of a devil, and he was sure good at assigning blame to others.

True and that is what made him scary. He had luck and good at spinning webs of lies and blame.

Ugh him. But ok, I will tryyyy and move away from him. I did have the same feeling as I had when I read these. This felt like an odd way to end the series. This felt like it should have been a previous books and then the world would break apart. I can see that this is meant to heal things, but still after the epic 4th book this felt strange.

It is hard to move from the ass since they made him such a strong story point. But yes, I did feel this was odd feeling. Like sometimes it felt like it should’ve been an earlier story, but then it felt like it was meant to be the last book of this story line. After so much time of battling bigger issues, this jerk seemed like small fry. However, it was fitting because we got to see Meg be stronger after everything. Limited cutting, using the cards, and even being able to save herself. She isn’t the little scared lamb of earlier books.

Yes, I feel the same, but still weird. Also, I loved the howling and everything before sure brought out the emotions in me. It was so much. Poor Meg.

Awww ya. I was making the narration go faster because I wanted to see what happened. I was SO worried at the end there!

Same, even though I had read it! And now you see why I am SOOOOOO sad that she might not write more in this world. I love this world. I will read about other places just please pleas, more!

Yessss, I want more too. Even though I am slightly bitter that we really won’t get more of Symon and Meg. I grew to adore them. I hated (annoyed more so) at the beginning. Wah! But honestly...I’ll take what I get from this world. Lots of stories to be had.

I hear you, I felt the same when I read the books, but when I listened I loved them, but then I had had time so ;) It takes time!

And as always, excellent work by Alexandra Harris. I bow to you.

Yesss love, love, LOVE the narrator. She is amazing. More please!

Can you believe we listened/read 5 books and liked them?! Freaking liked them! Cos you know us and one great book a year, lol.

We’ve been so lucky! I was worried since I didn’t really care for book 1 but then I switched to the audio train and I’ve liked them so much more.

Yay :D And as you know there are 2 more, one about no one we know and one about Bennett. But before that I guess we should try something boring again, sigh, it has been quite the ride.

Yes, probably save them for the new year ;) Give us some gold for 2020. Hahaha. IDK I am going to miss our little community.

This is an amazing world. I am glad I gave them a go. And so should the rest of you!

100%! You should try at least the first two books. I promise you’ll get addicted.

Agreed!

So, your pick?

Oh snap! Pressure is on *turns on ‘Under Pressure’ by Queen*

Mowuahahahahahhah

We got this!

The end?

The end

Joint Discussion. Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop

Hello all! Carole and I will be discussing "Vision in Silver" by Anne Bishop. I am in pink and Carole in blue.

The Others freed the cassandra sangue to protect the blood prophets from exploitation, not realizing their actions would have dire consequences. Now the fragile seers are in greater danger than ever before; both from their own weaknesses and from those who seek to control their divinations for wicked purposes. In desperate need of answers, Simon Wolfgard, a shape-shifter leader among the Others, has no choice but to enlist blood prophet Meg Corbyn’s help, regardless of the risks she faces by aiding him.

Meg is still deep in the throes of her addiction to the euphoria she feels when she cuts and speaks prophecy. She knows each slice of her blade tempts death. But Others and humans alike need answers, and her visions may be Simon’s only hope of ending the conflict.

For the shadows of war are deepening across the Atlantik, and the prejudice of a fanatic faction is threatening to bring the battle right to Meg and Simon’s doorstep…

Have I lured you over to the Others side? Isn’t this series great!?

LOL yess. I am quite addicted to the series and I love the Others. The humans are trash. There are a handful of good ones, but the rest? MEH

Yes, eat dirt MEAT! Ugh, I truly hate humans in this book, except those that have the common sense not to fall for the lies. But at the same time I do understand, all they hear is lies so what else could they believe. But they should think twice, but then humans are sheep.

Yes, or do your own research and use common sense. Like why would Crows go into houses and steal? They have access to all the shiny they want. They are stupid, stupid sheep.

They do deserve to die, horrible disgusting humans. Oh and then I look at society today and we really are stupid sheep that deserve mass extinction.

This world isn’t the best, but apart of me wishes our world was like that but I would want to be an Other OF COURSE. Humans destroy everything. Heck, they treat their own people like crap like Meg and the other girls. Poor girls.

Benevolent ownership my ass, they use them as slaves and sex-slaves, and omg breed them, how horrible can they be.

Truly disgusting. I am pro-getting-rid-of-them. They keep proving they are not worthy of living with the Others. The Others try and try and nothing! I am curious to see what is going to happen in the next one...they really messed up this time.

I lost my train of thought, ehhh, evil humans, oh yes! I know I have read this before and know what will happen, but OMG, I so want to read the next one cos I do not know what happens (even when I do ;)

Eeeee! I can’t wait for next month (I am assuming we are doing the next book next month ;) ) But yes things are escalating. I am beginning to like Meg more and more. I actually sided with her this time and I feel like everyone got a touch dramatic about one scene.

I did feel they overreacted too. I also liked Meg more this time around, I felt that I understood her better. I also understood what made her special. I remember getting Mary Sue vibes the first time around, but now I know better. She is engineered a special way ;)

Yesss I felt like she was indeed a Mary Sue too, but we are getting more from her and her past. Like her freak out about a small little thing and it makes sense. I’m also liking Simon more. He takes a bit to warm up to. I still like Henry more though ;)

I was not a Simon fan either when I read them, but when I listened, damn she really gets the growl right for me. I FEEL that he is Simon. She is AMAZING. I can not stress this enough, she makes this series.

The narrator really brings this to life for me. I had struggled with the first one since I read it. These next two? Amazing. I am tempted to read the next one and see the difference and then listen to the audio. Haha.

Not do NOT read it. Wait, I did like book 4 when I read it so maybe it is saved for you ;)

Hehehehe we shall see. I am addicted to this narrator so I’ll just listen to the audio, I think...unless they change her D: I would be upset. She voices everyone so well even the side characters.

She does the next one and then the sequels so yay! I did look her up and this and one other or smth was all she had done. My heart broke.

Maybe when the series is done she’ll do another one. Maybe she is one of those narrators that dedicate themselves to a series/author and then when it is done they attach themselves to another one. We shall see. I hope she does more!

I really hope so!
All I can say is that this series is amazing in audio! All the voices are amazing. Great book. Go listen now

Yessss yessss I highly recommend it! It was like night and day for me.

More to ad??d

Mmmmm it is so hard to discuss a good book. LOL Don’t wanna give away any spoilers. But yes, this was super good. I even had a tear at one part. I highly recommend this series.

The end :D I want more now!!

Me too!!!! The end!

Joint Discussion: Murder of Crows

Hello all! Blodeuedd and I will be discussing "Murder of Crows" by Anne Bishop. I am in red and Carole is in black.

Murder of Crows (The Others, #2)
Author: Anne Bishop

Narrator: Alexandra Harris
Title: Murder of Crows
(The Others #2)
Genre: Paranormal, UF, Fantasy, & romance
Published: March 4th 2014
Pages: Audiobook

After winning the trust of the terra indigene residing in the Lakeside Courtyard, Meg Corbyn has had trouble figuring out what it means to live among them. As a human, Meg should be barely tolerated prey, but her abilities as a cassandra sangue make her something more.

The appearance of two addictive drugs has sparked violence between the humans and the Others, resulting in the murder of both species in nearby cities. So when Meg has a dream about blood and black feathers in the snow, Simon Wolfgard - Lakeside’s shape-shifting leader - wonders if their blood prophet dreamed of a past attack or a future threat.

As the urge to speak prophecies strikes Meg more frequently, trouble finds its way inside the Courtyard. Now, the Others and the handful of humans residing there must work together to stop the man bent on reclaiming their blood prophet - and stop the danger that threatens to destroy them all.

SO so so!! Did it get better? :D

Yesss, it did. Much, much better! Not sure if it was the story, the audio aspect, or both. But I enjoyed it much more. Still some issues especially with having some more questions about this world. BUT I got a lot answered in this one.

Let’s say audio. I mean yes I know the world now, but when I looked back at my old review I had issues, while now I seem to like the characters more. Alexandra Harris is just that good.

I adore that narrator! She has voices for everyone and she sticks to it. I never get confused. There are a LOT of characters running around and she made it easy to follow.

Yes, I never have to wonder who is speaking, I love her voices for everyone. She is fantastic! I am a total Harris fangirl.

I want more by the narrator! And the author is getting better and I’m warming up to the author! LOL

I have only listened to her with these books, but yes I want more too! And good that Bishop is growing on you ;D SO I guess I should ask about issues that you still have

The ending made me mad. I also am not a huge fan of Simon...but I’m warming up to him. Meg still annoys me. Again...I warmed up a tiny, tiny bit to her. And this world confuses me. Just kill the humans and call it good. Little rats.

I have grown to like Meg now. I feel like I get her now and then she does not annoy me anymore. I am also in love with Simon *cough cough* I freaking love him, there I said it.
And yes, DEATH to most humans. DEATH! Let them be eaten those mofos.

There is something so grating about Meg. She is still adjusting...I know...so I don’t hate her. Just annoyed. And Simon is getting under my wall. LOL He was very sweet in this. I like that Henry guy and the vamp. They are fun. UGGHHH HATE THE HUMANS! Just get rid of them and be done with it.

Simon!!!! And I love Vlad and Henry too. Tess is awesome, let her take everyone down. So many great characters that you just have to care about.

Yesss, there are a couple that I do have my worries about. I feel like someone is going to betray someone. Just a feeling I’m having. LOL

Can you spoil it? I want to know *wiggles eyebrows*

Sorry..you shoulda been here when I did my psychic reading ;) hehehehe.

Oh you are EVIL! Lol. But I am glad that the series won you over. Aren’t you curious to see if the world will burn and humans will be burnt meat`?

I am cheering for the humans to be taken down. Sure there are a few good ones...but they are so dumb. SOOOOO dumb. C’mon. There are more of these supernatural creatures and they rule the roost. Just be thankful they are not eating you.

I do like that she made it like that, cos humans are fucking stupid. SO effing stupid. We get slapped in the face with the truth time after time and still when something happens we are so what happened?!?! HOW!?!?

WHY ARE YOU KILLING US!? Well...idiots...you killed innocents sooooo. *shrugs* SMH. Those poor dumb crow shifters. I would hate to be a crow shifter. I would wanna be a wolf or bear or tiger.

Hey, do not call them dumb! I love Jenny :/ They can’t help that they love the shiny. And I would be an elemental. All the way

LOLL i say dumb with affection ;) But I wanted to smack ‘em! Like you are being targeted bros! RESIST TEMPTATION OF THE TRASH! RESIST!

Shinies!!!!!

BAD SHINIES! BAD! *shakes fist* And being an elemental would be cool. But I want to be something fuzzy.

I am sure you would make a great, hmm, what are you, sorry Carole, not a wolf, not a bear, maybe a cat of a sort? What do you guys have there? Pumas, cougars,...tricky. Lol, what are you

If we’re going based on the location I would be a bobcat...short and stubby. BAHAHAHA

Awww you look adorable, and fierce.

Little and fierce. Sounds like me. Haha

I do not know if I have the actual temper of an elemental, I am sure to be an animal too.

Mhmmmm. If not an elemental….what furry thing would you be? Maybe a lynx?

I’d love to be a cat, but you know what, I am a wolverine, elusive, but fierce. No one minds me and then boom. Though lynxes are So much cuter. Scratch that I wanna be a fox

We would be great. Grr Humans! Ok so we got so out of track. Anything more to add?

I say they should have said f all humans and done more. They are being too nice, and nice gets you killed.

Yep. Especially with dealing with idiots like humans.

On to the next on then! YAY

Onward! :D

Audio: Wild Country - Anne Bishop

Narrated by: Alexandra Harris
Series: The World of the Others, Book 2
Length: 17 hrs and 57 mins
Unabridged Audiobook
Release date: 03-05-19
Publisher: Penguin Audio

My Thoughts:
I should have written this review at once, but I was so freaking high on this book!

I did like the previous series, the books got better and better. They went from good to great. But this new series was great at once. And at the same time that I do feel that I want more from the stories, but they are just one book stories. Though they do work great that way too, the pack that punch because they have to.

In this one the town of Bennett is to be resettled. The Elders killed everyone in that town...everyone. Good and bad, they all were killed. And honestly, I hate humans so die humans! Humans can never be trusted.

Even with a human POV this is still an Others books. They rule this town, they protect this town.

Jana is a female cop who comes to work for the sheriff. I did like her, but, human law sucks. They know there are bad guys, but they wait until they do something bad. And the bad is always too bad.

Then there is Virgil, who broke me. He is a survivor after the Humans First Movement killed wolves all over the continent. And he and his brother is all that is left from his pack. Then I learn more and break. I adored Virgil. Virgil and the pup! *sobs*

Then there is Tolya, the Sanguinati, who governs the town. I do like them, they are so Other.

There are smaller povs too, they bring this town to life and make you care. All while that showdown is coming and scaring me.

This new spin-off is darker, and that is perhaps why I like it more. I like the edge. I like how The Elders are just outside the town, waiting to eat them all. And they really should eat them all. At one point I was screaming EAT THEM!!!!! Well the baddies after all. I kept listening and listening, I cold not stop.

Conclusion:
At the end, well dang it, I am going to give it a 5! I loved this book. I loved the darkness. I loved how it made me care and despair. It's a bloody good book!

Narration
Alexandra Harris is wonderful and makes this book. I am sure it would be a good book reading it, but I also know that for me her narration takes it from good to freaking amazing. I like how she does The others. Giving them their personalities and really bring them forward. And how the humans are so human and the Others so Other.

She brings the emotions and it makes you feel so much. Her tone is perfect. Bringing darkness and hope.

This is a series you must listen to, and then I truly mean listen.

Audio: Lake Silence - Anne Bishop

Audio CD, 14 h
Narrator: Alexandra Harris
Published March 6th 2018 by Penguin Audiobooks
Series: The Others #6
Fantasy

My Thoughts:
I really love this series! And sure I had my doubts, I had fallen in love with the books and now they ended and we got a spin off. I was unsure, but I did not need to be. It was just as good.

It took me a while to warm up to Meg in the previous series, but here I liked everything at once. But then I was settled in this world and it was like meeting new friends. It also helped that I listened to it and I have said it before, everything is better in audio ;)

Characters:
Vicky was unsure, had anxieties, was not comfortable around men and just wanted to build a new life. Oh that scum of an ex husband, I wanted him to be eaten!! She was a kind person who deserved better. And now she had renovated a dump settled on her in the divorce and wanted some guests at her resort. But oh uh, instead she has a murder on her hand. Fingers pointing to her and luckily, her being kind and all, she has help.

The bookseller in town is a good friend. The woman at the lodging house is also a nice friend (and what on earth was up with some things there?). And most of all The Others. Aggie from the crow guard was a sweetie. Who wouldn't like the crows and their obsession with shinies. And there are Others too. I do love the Others, I want them to eat all bad people.

Story:
Ugh, humans! We really are monkeys who should have stayed in the trees. They are so stupid. Like omg, The Others, The Others! They killed and destroyed cities in the previous book. One think humans should have learned a lesson but noooo. They should all be eaten.

Oh what a ride! I did not want to stop listening! It is good when I take every chance I can to listen, even stay up late to listen.

Conclusion:
A great stand alone in this amazing world. More now please.

Narrator
She was great too. I liked all her voices and accents. Her spooky voice was indeed creepy.

BlurB:
Human laws do not apply in the territory controlled by the Others--vampires, shapeshifters, and paranormal beings even more deadly. And this is a fact that humans should never, ever forget . . .

After her divorce, Vicki DeVine took over a rustic resort near Lake Silence--in a human town that is not human controlled. Towns like Vicki's have no distance from the Others, the dominant predators that rule most of the land and all of the water throughout the world. And when a place has no boundaries, you never really know what's out there watching you.

Vicki was hoping to find a new career and a new life. But when her lodger, Aggie Crowe--one of the shapeshifting Others--discovers a dead body, Vicki finds trouble instead. The detectives want to pin the man's death on her, despite the evidence that nothing human could have killed the victim. As Vicki and her friends search for answers, things get dangerous--and it'll take everything they have to stay alive.

Etched in Bone - Anne Bishop

My thoughts:
I am sad to see this series end, I just started to enjoy it! I did have a rocky start with this series and had given up because I found Meg So annoying. But I waited 2,5 years, gave in and read book 2, and slowly it got better and I loved book 4.

So I went into this one rooting for Meg and Simon. I now liked this world and these people (even though so many more humans should die! They never change!!! Die die!)

I was surprised how much of it was focused on just the interactions between Cyrus and the courtyard. That motherf should burn! I hated him with a passion. I wanted him to get thrown out to get his flesh torn from his bones. You do not mess with my people man! But Elders are there watching. Everyone is trying to keep the fragile peace. If one thing go wrong, then what hope does humankind have in this world? And you knew it would get worse and worse and worse. And it does. I kept rushing to the end to see what happened.

Conclusion:
I am happy with the ending. It felt like a new start. But I am sad to see this series ending. And yes yes I have seen more is coming but that is about other people, and mystery and it does not sound as good. Well that is just cos I like this series now.

Marked in Flesh - Anne Bishop

For centuries, the Others and humans have lived side by side in uneasy peace. But when humankind oversteps its bounds, the Others will have to decide how much humanity they’re willing to tolerate—both within themselves and within their community...

Since the Others allied themselves with the cassandra sangue, the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets who were being exploited by their own kind, the delicate dynamic between humans and Others changed. Some, like Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn, see the new, closer companionship as beneficial—both personally and practically.

But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don’t realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land that belongs to the Others—and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to protect what is theirs…

My thoughts:
I should have written this yesterday while my blood was flowing and the rage growing. But there was thunder, boo thunder, every time I meant to go on my laptop a new stormfront came. Anyway, this book was truly the best one so far, like when I meant to go pee, 2 hours later I was still reading.

At first I wondered, why the change, see there were more POVS, but for me that worked amazing. We had to see what happened with a other places too. Especially one place. And I liked these new insights.

The rage has died done, but yesterday I was all THE CLEVER MEAT MUST DIE! Omg, the book tore me apart at one time. Yes some humans can be saved, but the rest of those monkeys must die. Painfully too! Rage rage rage!

Humans First and Last are still being effing idiots and being all Humans! F the rest! You stupid sacks of meat. You have not even met The claws and teeth of this place.

So yeah, of course I am team Others, there is really not anything else to be.

I have talked about my rage a lot....
Shit is about to go down! That is the story here.

Still hoping for Meg to hook up with Simon, the time is coming, she is learning how to live, and maybe one day a next step can come. Cos they are so cute. She clueless, he all squeaky toy! Awwwww.

I want to say more but mowuhahahahaha.

Conclusion:
Really the best one so far. I look forward to more...I need more stat.

Vision in Silver - Anne Bishop

The Others freed the  cassandra sangue  to protect the blood prophets from exploitation, not realizing their actions would have dire consequences. Now the fragile seers are in greater danger than ever before—both from their own weaknesses and from those who seek to control their divinations for wicked purposes.

My thoughts:
I still say let the wild ones go crazy and destroy every human settlement (well except for a few chosen ones). Humans just can't have nice things. The HFL league drives me insane in this one, it's all, fine, you can take a few shifters but do you not realise what is out there? Answer is no, silly monkeys. Die monkeys die.

Simon, awww, I do like him. He tries so hard to understand those sill humans.
Meg, I think she finally has grown on me, I was anti Meg, then Meh meh, but now, yeah, she hads grown on me. I like her. I get her.

And they should totally get it on...one day. She needs to learn how to live first. But one day, totally one day.

The plot is those idiots wanting to make war, here and overseas. Someone shows up. There are threats and action, and I am all kill the monkeys!

This might have been the best one so far, as the series slowly has grown on me. It's still not awesome, but maybe I am getting there. They have all been good, but I expected more since it was so hyped up, and you should never listen to hype. Cos I went into this series wanting best book ever, and when I got good I was disappointed. Which is silly cos Good is Good, and good makes me want to read more.

Conclusion:
And read more I shall! I should start the next one right away don't you think?! Ok I will do that. I crave more.
