This was another book I did not expect to like, I mean that cover is just so, damn we are tough! Oh I do not know. This was just so much more than I expected. It was funny!

Clay used to be in a band, a famous monster killing band. Now he is old, but happy settled with a wife and kid.

Then their frontman shows up, his daughter ran away and put together her own band and is now behind enemy lines. Gabriel was the pretty boy turned old too.

They set out and find their mage, who is a bit all over the place. Then one who has turned king, and is just as old and fat as the rest of them. And last, well we will save the last one.

Their glory days are behind them, but they can still crack a few skulls.

It was a great cast of characters, they were not what I expected at all. Hidden depths or just, funny.

I truly enjoyed this book, it was quite the ride. I look forward to the next book. It is about someone else, but still connected.

Clay Cooper and his band were once the best of the best -- the meanest, dirtiest, most feared crew of mercenaries this side of the Heartwyld.

Their glory days long past, the mercs have grown apart and grown old, fat, drunk - or a combination of the three. Then an ex-bandmate turns up at Clay's door with a plea for help. YA Historical romance Mystery

In exchange for an honest review

I'd say that the only thing that made this one YA, was the lack of smexy times. Because, sure, young heroine, but they can be young in adult too, first season and all. So it was like reading a clean adult romance, except there at the end there is a really dangerous situation. Really raw too. So trigger warning there for, oh but if I say it it is a spoiler, but if I do not say it...well danger of rape. 

Victoria loves the countryside. But then her sister shows up. And then her parents say that Victoria must find a husband this season.

Her options are not that many. The charming and rich Mr Carmichael (obvi the best option), the guy who takes snuff all the time, or maybe the guy she can't even listen too. Yes not that many options.

Then her best friend shows up, former best friend who left for the continent at 14.

Oh and then there is the weird thing that someone might be trying to harm her, and her family.

Mystery and budding romance, but mostly the mystery of these dangerous situations that keep popping up. 

Also, the heroine loves Jane Austen, and she tries to act like the heroines at times, and fail.

I enjoyed the book. Good speed, and less Ton than an adult romance. And more, I shall do this!

Narrator Morag Sims:

I liked the narrator. She made good distinctive voices  and she made some of the suitors sound like such toads in the best way.I do believe this was my first time listening to her, but I would do it again.

Lady Victoria Aston has everything she could want: an older sister happily wed, the future of her family estate secure, and ample opportunity to while her time away in the fields around her home.

Romantic suspense

Cara is studying to become a teacher, but she also wants to help her bounty hunting sisters. So she decides to catch a bad guy.

Ok stop here, Cara, what were you thinking?! Not without back up from people who know what they are doing! She is just lucky the bounty is a hot nice guy.

Henry is accused of murder and has fled.

Ok so yes, she does get friendly with a murderer on the run, and trusts him quickly. But hey maybe he had really kind eyes. And well, I believe it.

Honestly there is so much going on that I can't say. All from her mother putting them all in jeopardy, to conspiracies, to gangsters, drama, and let's not forget romance...after quite some time cos these people are too busy to get down. There is danger, running and more running.

I did enjoy the fast pace of the story

Narration

I like her voice and she did well with the pace and character voices.

Cara Pax never wanted to be a bounty hunter. She's happy to leave chasing criminals and tackling skips to her sisters. But if she wants her dreams of escaping the family business to come true, she's got one last job to finish.... Only problem is, she doesn't think her bounty is guilty. 

Henry Kavenski is a man with innocence to prove. When he realizes that Cara believes him, he'll do anything to keep her out of harm's way. Escaping criminals and dodging cops might not be the best time to fall in love, but Henry and Cara won't give up, not when there's a chance at a new life ahead - if they can survive the fall.

I do not have one, I could fake one, but that is silly isn't it? I mean I would like one, but I would never keep to that word or phrase anyway.

Thoughts:
OMG, this movie broke me. Damn it broke me. And if you tell me that you do not watch sad movies then you should!

I remember reading reviews for the book it is based on since I have read it, and people were all oh I did not know this had happened. Omg, how have you not learned about the atrocities committed by Stalin!? He sent millions upon millions to their death. You need to know these things! Soviet was an effing monster. I am bloody glad we managed to not fall behind the Iron Curtain.

The book made me cry, but this movie was actually better. Afterwards my face was burning like it would fall off cos I almost cried through it all. I have never cried this much in my life.

It was grey, solemn and showed the hell it was. And now I want to cry again. It broke me!

I think the reason why the movie was better is cos here the flashbacks of a better time made sense, but in the audio I listened to it was confusing. I think print is better for this one day.

But yes watch it, if you do not know your history then it is bound to repeat itself.
