The non-stop sequel to The Dark Divine delivers an even hotter romance and more thrilling action than Bree Despain's first novel.  Grace Divine made the ultimate sacrifice to cure Daniel Kalbi.  She gave her soul to the wolf to save him and lost her beloved mother.  When Grace receives a haunting phone call from Jude, she knows what she must do.  She must become a Hound of Heaven.  Desparate to find Jude, Grace befriends Talbot - a newcomer to town who promises her that he can help her be a hero.  But as the two grow closer, the wolf grows in Grace, and her relationship with Daniel begins to crumble.  Unaware of the dark path she is walking, Grace becomes prideful in her new abilities - not realizing that an old enemy has returned and deadly trap is about to be sprung.  Readers, raveous for more Grace and Daniel, will be itching to sink their teeth into The Lost Saint.

My thoughts:
Evil Ana for giving me this book. What on earth was I thinking when I actually liked book 1!? Cos this one was duuuuuuull.

I tried, I really tried. I read 1/3 of it, and enjoyed it in a very boring way. But then I just could not take it anymore, even skimming it was boring. Grace was a naive idiot who yelled at her boyfriend for spending time with a girl for school. But she spent a lot of time with a guy herself. Whatever Grace. True love and all *coughs* Love triangle big sigh.

I did not care about Grace, I did not care about Daniel. This one went bad, fast. I would totally have given up if I hadn't gotten it from someone. And I did want to know how it would turn out after book 1, but after book 2...who cares

THE POWER OF THE FAE...
Over a millenium ago, Erna, a seismically active yet beautiful world was settled by colonists from far-distant Earth. But the seemingly habitable planet was fraught with perils no one could have foretold, and the colonists found themselves caught in a desperate battle for survival against the fae, a terrifying natural force with the power to prey upon the human mind itself, drawing forth a person's worst nightmare images or most treasured dreams and indiscriminately giving them life.
Twelve centuries after fate first stranded the colonists on Erna, mankind has achieved an uneasy stalemate, and human sorcerers manipulate the fae for their own profit, little realizing that demonic forces which feed upon such efforts are rapidly gaining in strength. Now, as the hordes of the dark fae multiply, four people - Priest, Adept, Apprentice, and Sorcerer - are about to be drawn inexorably together for a mission which will force them to confront an evil beyond their imagining, in a conflict which will put not only their own lives but the very fate of humankind in jeopardy...

My thoughts:
I struggled, oh how I struggled. This was the second time I started this book, the first was a DNF. This time I did get to half the book, but yawn.

The world is fascinating! Scifi mixed with fantasy. Humans came to a planet and settled. They lost their tech and found magic, and a cruel world. Awesome worldbuilding.

But, the characters are flat, the story was not interesting. After 250 pages I started to skim. I just could not bother anymore. At the end I closed the book, and will not read more or care what happens.

I will give it a ok grade for that amazing world and the promise it held. I did half like it at times. But, nah, not for me.  I would not recommend it.

  2. I'm actually quite curious about Friedman's Coldfire trilogy. I've heard great things, but I can also see why they might be hard to get into. I'm sticking with her new YA series for now.

As for the second one, all I can say is too bad about the awesome setting :\ In other news, you're still star athlete of the week :D ALL HAIL LINDA! Pics are breathtaking as usual, and I still want to move in a house next to you - know of anyone wanting to sell? ;) Happy Sunday!

  16. Wow, you did a good job of exercising this week. I got in my goal's worth. Love getting outside and walking in the fall.

Bummer the books didn't work for you. That sci-fi fantasy caught my eye and its cool that the worldbuilding is neat, but I do like a developed character.
