Today I have Marie Harte over for an interview, and there is also a chance to win her new book.
Welcome!
Tell me about yourself.
Hi. I’m Marie Harte. I’m
a New York Times and
USA Today bestseller
with over 100 books to my name. I’m a huge fan of the romance genre
and write everything from contemporary to futuristic love stories,
from spicy mainstream to erotic romance. I graduated college with an
English degree, so I’m a stickler for good grammar. I served in
U.S. Marine Corps, worked in the IT field, and managed truck drivers
for a living. It’s been an eclectic but rewarding career. LOL But
through it all I always wanted to be a professional writer. Twelve
years ago, in 2004, my first book released. I haven’t looked back
since.
Your new book?
Test Drive
is the first in the Body Shop Bad Boys series. The mechanics who make
up the heroes of this series were first introduced in What
To Do with a Bad Boy, the fourth book in the
McCauley Brothers series. The smart-alecky mechanics, who loved
messing with Del Webster, their sexy scary boss, now have their own
stories.
In Test
Drive, Johnny Devlin's a
charmer with a checkered past. He’s had his eye on scorching-hot
bartender Lara Valley for ages, but she's rejected him more than
once. That doesn't mean he won't come to her aid when some dirtbag
mauls her. When she asks him on a date as a no-strings-attached thank
you, he can't say no. And then he's saying nothing but hell,
yes.
I love Johnny and Lara as
a couple. (Lara also made an appearance in What
To Do with a Bad Boy.) Johnny wants something
he thinks he’ll never have—the love of a good woman. And Lara
wants to leave her humble roots and stop working so hard all the
time, to sit back and enjoy her life. But with a man like Johnny? A
handsome player with a checkered past?
What inspired you to
write about a garage?
Cat, my editor at
Sourcebooks. I blame her for all of it! Ha. Just kidding. Del, the
heroine in the last McCauley Brothers book, co-owns the garage with
her father. That’s where the mechanics come into play. They love
their boss, and they weren’t too keen on some single-dad do-gooder
turning Del inside-out. I had the mechanics at the back of my mind in
that story, but they were vague. The emphasis was on Del and
Mike—Del’s love interest. But my editor wondered about the
mechanics in the garage. And she was right. They’re fun, sexy, and
aggravating all at the same time. Typical males…needing good women
to set them straight.
Some juicy info about
Johnny?
He’s a sweetheart and a
secret book nerd. He loves Lord of the Rings
but would never in a million years tell the guys he’s a closet
reader. His vocabulary rivals mine! He’s also a sensitive guy with
real insight into women, having grown up among so many. Johnny wants
women to feel good, and he’s got the skills to prove it. Truly a
maesto between the sheets.
And his heroine?
Lara really resonated with
me. I was going back to school when I wrote this, and the struggles
of a full-time job, school, and family can be trying. Lara does it
all with little help, though her family tries their best to support
her. She’s the one working hard, striving to better herself. And I
completely respect that. She’s also filled with common sense, yet
vulnerable when it comes to love. She’s the true package and a
go-getter. I loved her.
Thank you!
Thanks for having me!
