Issue 66:  2nd Quarter 2018

Ok,  I am going to try my hand at reviewing this :)

EDITORIAL
Celebrating Story

FICTION
“All and Nothing” by Chadwick Ginther
This one was my absolute favorite. A woman in a man's profession and fighting for it. Viking fantasy and I would love to read a longer story.

“Roadmaster” by Randall Andrews
A boy and his grandfather. And a car that shows to be more than just a car. I liked the end cos I sure did not see it coming.

“Barleycorn” by Cae Hawksmoor
Dark and beautiful about a man and a goddess. Sad.

“Middle of Nowhere” by Walter Dinjos
i liked this one. Witchcraft and Boko Haram. I did not know what to believe. A strong story.

“The Consequential Effects of Practiced Penmanship” by Marc A. Criley
I honestly do not know if I actually got this one...

“The Long Way” by William Campbell Powell
A boy and his father on Mars. Kind if freaky and yet not. Interesting.

FLASH FICTION
“What Does a Time Machine Cost?” by Elliotte Rusty Harold
Perfect little flash fic about building a time machine. Perfect

POETRY

Introduction to Poetry Issue 66 by John C. Mannone
Ok, so I do not know how to review poetry. SUre we analyzed in lit class, but I was so in love with the WWI poems so I really did not pay attention to much else.

“The Song of Unknown Night” by Hongri Yuan
Translated from Chinese. World ending

“To Watch the World Burn” by Jason Harris
A poems about how humans suck ;)

“Rebellion” by Genevieve DeGuzman
And one how we should know better than to mess with things

“A City Built On Bones” by Ann Schwader
My favorite since it is a villanelle and I just love how it is built and flows. Even in its darkness

“Oak, Ash, and Crow” by Rebecca Buchanan
and the theme is certainly how our world ends in all of these

“The Honored” by WC Roberts
Well this was a freaky little dark poem. Nice. Built in an interesting way too

“Paul Bunyan and the Whirlwind Mountain” by Gabriel Ertsgaard
This was different, An interactive poem where I got to choose things.

“La Belle a la Bête” by Brittany Hause
I actually got that this was a Beauty and the beast poem. Go me.

“Tea Leaves” by Hilary Biehl
I am never gonna be an analyzer of poetry. After every try I look at the editor's notes. While I, well, it was about tea. I feel like I need Naida for this.

“Zojaj” by Sheikha A.
Kind of sad. Transparent glass

I can not stop thinking of the "viking" one. It is worth it for that one alone. I will keep an eye out for that name in the future.

  7. I have a hard time reviewing sff magazines because of the format, and also because I don't usually have interest in the poetry or essay sections. But I think you did a great job giving a rundown of what's available and what you thought!
