TMST and urgent movie review: Ashes in the Snow

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post on Rainy Day Ramblings where Rainy discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.

January 7th: What is your word or phrase for 2020?

I do not have one, I could fake one, but that is silly isn't it? I mean I would like one, but I would never keep to that word or phrase anyway.

Ok I will say...RELAX. That comes in hand with everything, about to blow, relax.

Here is to another TMST year!

Next week's question is:
January 14th: Tell me about the city/ town you live in.

And now to a movie review because I need to tell you all about this one!!!!

Thoughts:
OMG, this movie broke me. Damn it broke me. And if you tell me that you do not watch sad movies then you should!

I remember reading reviews for the book it is based on since I have read it, and people were all oh I did not know this had happened. Omg, how have you not learned about the atrocities committed by Stalin!? He sent millions upon millions to their death. You need to know these things! Soviet was an effing monster. I am bloody glad we managed to not fall behind the Iron Curtain.

The book made me cry, but this movie was actually better. Afterwards my face was burning like it would fall off cos I almost cried through it all. I have never cried this much in my life.

It was grey, solemn and showed the hell it was. And now I want to cry again. It broke me!

I think the reason why the movie was better is cos here the flashbacks of a better time made sense, but in the audio I listened to it was confusing. I think print is better for this one day.

But yes watch it, if you do not know your history then it is bound to repeat itself.

  1. Part of my family lived through that so the book was very personal for me. I look forward to the movie - I'm guessing I should carry a whole box of tissues into the theater.

  3. Relax is good. I think we could all do with a little more relaxing.

  4. I haven't picked my word yet. It has to be something that feels natural and not like a resolution or something I have to DO. Relax is always a good one though.

  6. I don't have a word either. I might look back at a year and think of a word but never before. I do want to see the movie but I want to read the book first!

  7. I like RELAX - but I'm with you... I don't really do those words. But it was fun to think about.

*whispers* I don't watch sad movies.

  10. A single word or phrase for a whole year? Hmm, that would be something I'd need to think on for a while...

  11. Real history is often so heartbreaking and I always wonder how these leaders can commit these atrocities and live with themselves. Glad to hear you appreciated this emotional story.

  12. After reading your review, I want to watch that one.

I picked 'simplify' last year and I don't feel I've finished with it since I still have things to do in that area, but I've added 'gratitude' to it to help me keept stuff in perspective.

  13. I had to chuckle. Relax is a good one. I think that is one you may be able to remember throughout the year. It's an important one too, however jokingly you first thought of it. :-) I took an online quiz just for the fun of it that chose a word for me. It was very similar to your word, as a matter of fact. And just what I need to hear in that moment.

I'm like you though. The one year I chose a word, I forgot it in a couple months. Maybe this year will be our year though.

I don't think I've heard of Ashes in the Snow. I love movies that make me cry though. I need to watch it!

    1. I thought about it today and there was a situation and I just took a breath and relaxed. It is a good word :)

I hope I will keep it up

You really have to watch it

  14. I do need to relax more, too. I need less stress in my life. Good luck with that.
