Best of August

Hi All! Happy August! 

This is just a fun little meme that Carole and I are going to try  and do once a month. Give a little shout-out and "badge" of honor to our favorite book and movie of the previous month. This month we'll share our favorites of August.

First, favorite movie:

For Carole's choice of the month, she picks..............A Cinderella Story (2004)

"I didn't watch a lot of movies this month so I didn't have a lot to pick one, so I picked this one. It was a favorite of mine when I was a wee thing and it is still really good. Not great at all, but good."

Now, my choice is.............Guardians of the Galaxy (2017)

"I did expect more, but eh, it was funny and OMG I love baby groot. See it for Baby Groot!"

Now, favorite book:

First, here is my pick.................................When a Laird Finds a Lass by Legia Cornwall

"August was not a great month, it was a good one, but not a great one. So how to pick between good books that all are pretty equal? I will go with When a lairds finds a lass by Lecia Cornwall. The narrator was awesome and made the book for me, it was so funny."

Now, here is Carole's choice.................Shanghai Girls by Lisa See

"This was a tough choice...I had some really good ones this month. In the end, though, I picked this one. It was so sad but so hopeful. The characters were intriguing and complex. Someday I will read the sequel to see what happens next. The author certainly has a way with words. A great book. Contender for best book of the year."

First, favorite movie:

For March, My pick....................Pete's Dragon (2016)

"I think the honor of best movie of the month goes to Pete's Dragon. The reason being that I sobbed through that whole movie. OH how I cried. Floods of tears I tell you. So it sure brought out emotions."

Carole's pick is...................Beauty and the Beast (2017)

"This was a no-brainer for me. I watched this twice and I can't wait for it to go to DVD. This was simply magical and beautiful. The cast was good and the story itself did well to balance the old story and new twists. See it. So wonderful."

Now, favorite book:

First, here is Carole's pick.................................The Ugly Teapot by Fred Holmes

"Oh boy...I had a hard time picking one for March. Nothing super great. I'll pick the most interesting which was The Ugly Teapot. Yes, it good...not great, but it was by far the most interesting book I read. Great ending, intriguing story-line, and it makes you think. "

My pick is ..................................Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

"Best book of the month was tricky because I have read some great ones. But Howl's Moving Castle stood out for being so charming and I just felt like everyone could enjoy it. Old as young."

Best of February

Hi All! Happy March! 

This is just a fun little meme that Carole and I are going to try  and do once a month. Give a little shout-out and "badge" of honor to our favorite book of the month! We are adding a favorite Movie of the month as well. 

First up is Carole's choice:

First, favorite movie:

For February, I have decided to give the trophy to.........The Danish Girl. 

"Out of all the movies I watched last month, this movie really stood out. Yes, it got the highest star rating, BUT it was also a really good and interesting movie. It is a fresh of breath air that goes over such a controversial subject. The cast was good and I applaud the risk that the main actor took. It really could have ended his career. But it did the opposite and enhanced his resume and skill set. You need to watch this." 

And I picked..........................Transformers.

"For my birthday I got the Transformers boxset, and you know what, that one is my fav movie of the month. I have a weird love of the Transformers. I do not like the acting but damn things explode a lot. Lol. It is freaking amazing. Go Transfomers!"

Now, favorite book:

First, my pick.................................Mischling by Affinity Konar

"I actually did not have any mind-blowing books this month. I had good books, and good books are good. Best of those I think Mischling has to be. It was so well-written and haunting. When I looked at my February books this was the one that stood out. It was the book of hope in a dark time. A sad book that was never sad, and an important book because we should never forget."

Carole's choice is..................................Daughter of a Thousand Years by Amalia Carosella

"This wasn't mind-blowing by any means, but it was REALLY good. I could hardly put this down. I think why this stuck out was because of the characters for me. Also, this does cover a centuries old issue with humanity: Religion. The story and characters were complex. A good read for sure."
