Before the Moon
by Blodeuedd

She was sad, sure there was anger in her heart too but mostly it was the sadness that overwhelmed her. The moon was full and hung low over the sky tonight. Butterflies played around her as she stood on the cliff, their wings sparkling golden in the light of the moon. She felt the wings on her own back, begging her to fly away. To play with them throughout the night, but she stood still on her cliff and gazed upon the moon. So beautiful, so serene. So alone. Now the anger was back and she bit her lip as the memories flooded her.

She was just a young angel, guarding groves and temples, and he was everything she wanted. Handsome, strong, the God of the Sun. He drove his chariot across the sky every day and each night he came to her and they made love in the grass. She ached for him when he was away and he whispered sweet words to her as they soared to the sky. But like all things it came to an end, a painful end. He was to marry the hag, the Moon. She may look pretty on the sky but Carena knew better. The moon was past her prime, not like Carena who was young and fresh. This was a match made for the Gods, by the Gods. The sun and moon needed children as the moon was lonely on the night sky. But Carena was still angry and swore that if he ever came near her again she would cut that which he praised the most off. So he sulked in the shadows and she tried to go on with her life, but each night the moon taunted her for what she had lost and the anger and sadness grew and grew. Until the night she went to her cliff, where she now stood.

Slowly she let the fabric around her slip down and she stood naked before the moon. A smile now lay on her lips.
“Feast on this bitch!” She shouted and felt the moon grow angry. The Moon would never have be young of body again. And there was something else Carena also had hidden. She touched her rounded belly and smiled once again. She would not be alone. Let him have his moon.

..............................

I have not yet decided what her child would be, the Sun and Moon would have stars, but what would and Angel and the Sun have...

One Last Goodbye
by Blodeuedd

Never would I taste your sweet lips again, never would I hold you in my arms. Never would you hold me tight, never again would I dream of our future. I loved you so, with all my heart and all my soul. I sit here by your grave and mourn for a while. I think about the fun we used to have, stolen kisses in the garden, embraces in dark corners of the palace. Talking forever as midnight grew closed, laughing by the lake on lazy summer days. You were my everything and all I ever wanted. We were meant to be, to last, to watch the days go by together and raise a brood of our own. But life does not always play out the way you want to. I loved you so, in sickness and in health. During bad times and during good times. This was what love should be like, should feel like and I am happy we had our time together. So I kiss your stone and cry a little tear. The darkness has descended on me and I shiver in my gown. It’s cold and it’s dark. I should not be here alone but I just wanted you to know how much I miss you, how much I loved you. I laugh by myself and wonder what you would think if you found me here. You would think I was a silly thing and you would laugh with me. You always did love to laugh. The laughter dies in my throat as I feel the tightness over my heart close in. This is truly how it feels to miss someone. I say goodbye and take the lonely road home. A servant is waiting by a door with a candle in her hand.
“Hurry mistress”, she tells me and soon she has me tucked into bed and once again I lay in darkness with only my thoughts to hold me.

When morning comes I get ready, they are all around me, pampering and dressing me. I look stunning and I smile. A door opens and they all grow silent and curtsy.
“You should not see me before, “ I say and smile as he walks in. So handsome, so strong that my heart swells in my breast.
“I just wanted to know if you are ready?” He asks and takes my hand. Always the kind one and I nod.
“I said my goodbyes last night, it felt good. Now I am ready do go on” I flush as he smiles.” With you, “ I whisper and he kisses me and hugs me tightly.

The Fighter
by Blodeuedd

She was made for this. War made her blood sing and her she wished for nothing more. She knew how to fight, she was good and she knew that it was her path. Until…

A few years later

Lana took up the bucket of water and went back into the little cottage. She lived there alone and had so for a couple of years. Her days as a fighter in the King’s army had come to a halt when they had lost a battle that had cost the kingdom its independence. So she had left. She refused to fight for the conqueror. His name made her blood boil.

The sudden sound of a horse made her swing around. She stood still, tense and waiting, no one came to see her. Soon she saw the horse and its rider. She still did not move, not even when the man fell down. Instead she went back inside to start supper. It took some time but soon she heard knocking on the door. She had to open.

On her porch a man lay bleeding.” Help me,” he whispered and she took pity.

Funny how a life can change in a matter of minutes. Lana nursed the stranger back to life and as a woman still in her youthful prime she fell in love. She may have been a fighter but she had also longed for the simple things. Her handsome stranger never told her a lot about himself but she did not need that. She wanted only him.

The day he left she was heartbroken. He told her he would come back for her and kissed her goodbye. She waited for a week but the riders that came were not from him, instead they were from her old company and they begged their captain to return. The true king was moving in with a new army to take back the land that belonged to them. Lana knew that it was her duty so she took out her trusted sword and rode into battle.

The Siege of Dunmore Castle was long and bloody. When they finally broke through the gates they knew that victory was at hand. Soon they would kill the usurper and the country would be free. Lana moved like a dancer throughout the streets and the blood dripped from her clothes.

The king was ahead and she braved on. Soon he would fall by her sword. She killed his guards, and without even looking at him she put his sword through his chest.

“Lana.”
She looked up and her heart died.
“Gareth.” She looked down on the sword and then up at him. “No,” she whispered as he fell back.

The Assassin
by Blodeuedd

He was the one that belonged to the night. He was the one that came into your house when you were sleeping. He was the one that cut your throat.

It was an art really. You did not just kill a man. Now first you had to know things about the person you were meant to kill, you had to study him, his friends and where he went. Did he sleep alone? Did he have servants near? Some did not care and killed them all, but those were the sloppy ones, the ones that eventually got caught. And Christijian was not sloppy. He had been trained since he was a young boy found in the streets. He had learnt about poisons, weapons, and he has been trained to fool the best. He could impersonate the rich and the brightest. He was everything a man in his job should be. He also knew how to protect his back from fellow artists that wanted a piece of the cake. He killed without remorse, but he still took care. If he had a job to do, he did the job, and he was not paid to kill anyone else so why even do it. Or perhaps he did have a conscience after all that said it was wrong.

He had spied on her for weeks, Lady Alena. She was beautiful, and rich, and she had the king’s eye. Therefore the queen wanted her dead and had hired the best to do it. He knew what she slept in, he knew that she liked to read before going to sleep. He knew what she liked for breakfast, and he knew which time would be the best to take her life. During those weeks he did have doubts. She was so young, so full of life, and she deserved more. But he knew that if he did not do it someone else would, and that someone would not be as nice as he. He did not want her to suffer, or worse.

He opened the window and crawled in without making a noise. He watched her for a moment while she sleep peacefully, and then he took out his bag. He blew some powder into her nose and watched her breathe slower and slower. She faded away without realizing it. Her mind already in a coma. She never felt a thing. That was not what the queen had wanted but screw the queen. She would get hers. He smiled where he stood and touched her cold chin. Then he sighed and went out the way he came. He had a new mark, this very night a messenger had come to him. The queen would be dead within a month. Lady Alena would not die for nothing.

It never did hit him that he could have saved her.
