Guestblog and giveaway: Carolyn Brown with Darn good cowboy Christmas

Today I have Carolyn Brown over with a guestblog and at the end you can win her new book Darn Good Cowboy Christmas :)

Hello everyone. Here in the US, Thanksgiving is officially over! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, spent the day with family and friends and made lovely memories.

Thinking of the holidays reminds me of my newest holiday book, Darn Good Cowboy Christmas, that hit the shelves a few weeks back. Liz Hanson is the heroine and she’s been raised in a traveling carnival her whole life. Two things top her Christmas list every year—a house with no wheels and a sexy cowboy. Her Uncle Haskell has given her the house and Raylen O’Donnell could very well be the sexy cowboy if she plays her cards, or maybe does her belly dancing, just right. And let me tell you all, dear hearts, Raylen is one hot cowboy. Look at the cover picture one more time to verify that I’m tellin’ you the one hundred percent, guaranteed, unadulterated truth about his hotness.

Speaking of which, let’s talk about why cowboys are so hot!

In my opinion, it's because they capture all seven senses and hang on. Years ago only five senses had been identified but then cowboy romances hit the market and the powers that be had to add two more!

The first sense is sight. A cowboy walks into the room and every eye goes toward him, right? There's a lot to see and staring won't get you in trouble. Just look at that swagger, that smile and try not to get a case of hot flashes.

Excerpt: His hair was still a rich dark brown, almost black until the sunlight lit up the deep chestnut color. His eyes were exactly as she remembered: pale icy blue rimmed with dark brown lashes. It all added up to a heady combination, enough to make her want to tangle her hands up in all that dark hair and kiss him until she swooned like a heroine in one of those old castle romances she’d read since she was a teenager. Speaking of kissing, where in the hell was the mistletoe when a woman needed it, anyway?

Hearing: Shut your eyes and imagine Raylen (look at the cover) whispering in your ear in a deep Texas drawl like he did Liz’s on many occasions.

Excerpt: When she looked up his blue eyes were dreamy and scorching hot at the same time. She stretched enough to brush a kiss against each of his eyelids and he moaned. Until that moment she wasn’t aware that a man could groan in a Texas drawl or that it would turn her heat button up to high.

The third sense is touch. Think about when a cowboy traces a woman’s mouth with his fingertips before he kisses her with enough passion to burn down half the state of Texas. I'd bet my bottom dollar that in fifty years, she’ll touch her lips and remember his touch.

Excerpt: She wasn’t a bit amazed at the gushy, warmth spreading all over her body when he took her hand. It was there every time he touched her. He didn’t even have to touch her; just catching him staring at her from across the yard or the room made her hotter’n a drop of water on the café griddle.

That brings us to the sense of smell. Cowboys smell like fresh snow, leather, boot polish, starched jeans and Stetson shaving lotion. Now imagine Raylen touching your hand, kissing you and hearing that deep drawl all at the same time. Swooning yet?

Excerpt: Raylen arrived early with a bottle of Austin’s watermelon wine. He was freshly shaven and smelled so good that Liz wanted to forget the lasagna, chicken parmesan and even the tiramisu for dessert, and take him straight to bed. He wore starched and creased Wranglers stacked up perfectly on top of polished boots. His baby blue ironed shirt matched his eyes and his big silver belt buckle was polished to a high shine.

And now the sense of taste. Oh, my! Liz could go all weak in the knees just thinking about Raylen’s kisses.

Excerpt: It was a slow motion experience. The closer his mouth got to hers the hotter the liquid in the pits of her belly got. When his lips claimed hers in a hard kiss she kissed back with all the passion in her soul.

And last there are the two add-on senses that are now listed with the original five.

Intuition: that moment when there is no doubt that the cowboy you are dancing with is the hottest thing this side of Hades and that he’s your cowboy. No excerpts because I couldn’t think of one without it being a spoiler. But believe me, Liz could tell you the very moment that her intuition said that Raylen was worth clipping her wings for.

And equilibrium: Cowboys knock a girl right off her feet with all their ability to cover every sense listed and a few that the powers-that-be haven’t even discussed yet.

And that’s what makes a cowboy hot! At least in my opinion. Tell me what do you think makes cowboys so hot?

Thank you Carolyn :D

And She’s Out for a Sizzlin’ Christmas

  3. Maybe a better question would have been what "doesn't" make a cowboy hot.

In addition to the 7 senses you mentioned, there is the his alliegence to his family and friends. I don't think of a cowboy that fights Indians, but rather a well-defined man sitting astride his horse wiht a gorgeous body!

  4. Carrie: Thank you for stopping by. This is my second cowboy holiday book. Last year Honky Tonk Christmas was the number one bestselling Christmas book. Keep your boots on...Mistletoe Cowboy comes out in October, 2012...so there are more on the way.

  5. Jackie: You got it, darlin'. A cowboy takes his friends and family very seriously and never takes them for granted.

  8. Ooohh this sounds like it would be a fun holiday read. I'm still sadly out of the cowboy loop and really just need to jump in with both feet and pick a sexy cowboy story up!

  9. Loved it!! I'm into cowboys right now!!

  10. I haven't read a cowboy book in ages! When I was younger, I had a thing for the Marlboro man-seriously!

    (munching on 2nd maple doughnut)

I already love the way he smells-and there's something about a good-looking man in a cowboy hat that makes me a little weak in the knees! HEA stories, especially around the holidays make me happy which in turn makes everyone around me happy :o]

I love the seven senses! That's brilliant! Just curious but where did you get your ideas/inspiration from? Is there a certain hunk in your life that has that lovely smell? :o]

Sounds like a fantastic book, thanks for the wonderful interview.

  11. Cowboys are hot because, well cos they just are :D I think it is the hat ;)

Thanks you so much for stopping by Carolyn.

How many more Spurs books are you writing?

  12. Jenny: Put on your boots and hat and jump right in. Raylen will make you feel right at home.

  13. Staci: Welcome to Ringgold, Texas. Just five miles south of the Red River...where everyone knows everyone and what they're doing and only buys the county newspaper to find out who got caught!

  14. Kristi the Book Fairie: I'm not so sure I get to claim my ideas/inspirations. Mostly the cowboys and sassy gals crawl into my brain when I'm not aware and then pester the hell out of me until I write their stories. And while I write they sit on my shoulder and tell me exactly what to write. If I don't do what they say, they keep me from sleeping at night!

  15. Blodeuedd: My wonderful editor Deb hasn't put a "hat" on how many she's going to let me write yet. Right now there are seven and I'm working on a pitch for three more. The cowboys keep coming out of the mesquite bushes with their hats in their hands and this sexy grin and I can't tell them no.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Lol, no who could say no to that :)

And now I do wonder since I have seen no blurb, who is the next book about?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Is this part of a series that I'd need to start reading from the first book or can I jump in with this one? Sounds like a lot of fun!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hi Carolyn and special hugs to Blode,

I think cowboys are HOT because they're confident, cocky and full of themselves, yet...that sweet bad boy image with those knowing eyes and all that sweet talk they do will draw me helplessly in every time...in spite of myself. :-) Besides, they ride a horse and wear tight jeans...and there's got to be something said about those cowboy boots!!! OMG! Where's the cold shower...dang it Carolyn, see what you started!

  19. Okay... you got me... I am willing to be next to your cowboy if that is the way he smells. ;D LOL I'm not a huge fan of the cowboy, but I may be changing my mind. Hm... I may have to get swoony with this cowboy!

  25. I think cowboys are hot because they wear those tight jeans, cowboy hats and boots, and they're in great shape from riding that horse.

  26. Yeehaw!

Liz and I have so much in common...a sexy cowboy is on the top of my Christmas list very year too! Love the two additions to the senses. Very true.

I love the cowboy swagger. HOT! HOT! HOT!

  27. I think cowboys are hot because they wear big boots LOL ;). In my mind, they have very traditional alpha male tendencies and are very protective of their women. I like those qualities in any man! They also have sexy bodies from working so hard on the farm!

  28. I think cowboys have that sexy factor because they aren't afraid to work. Work at farming, or work on keeping their woman happy. They have great values as far as work and family are concerned and I think that's what's most appealing about them. Annnd generally they're gorgeous too. That helps. Just a wee bit. Or a lot.

  29. Yvonne, thank you for stopping by and good luck on the contest.

  30. Fiction Vixon, I expect there would be a few out there that wouldn't enjoy a cowboy Christmas. Poor things, bless their hearts!

  31. Barbara, you hit the nail on the head! And then when they speak in that slow drawl, it just adds icing on the cake!

  32. Liz, wear your prettiest robe on Christmas morning because Santa just might bring that cowboy and leave him under your tree!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Amy: Yes, ma'am! That's so true about the sexy bodies. Cowboys don't even need a membership to a gym!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Lorific: Oh, yes, ma'am, they are gorgeous! Just look at Raylen on the cover of Darn Good Cowboy Christmas! Oh, my!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I enjoyed the post and must say I really like the cover!

  36. The thing that makes cowboys hot is their hard working nature and that's a good quality in to look for in all men.

  37. Mmm...Maple doughnuts. lol Thanks, Carolyn. ;)

I think what makes Cowboy's hot is that they're tough and know how to use their hands. Yowsie. haha

This sounds like a great book. Thank you for the interview, review, and chance to win. :)

  38. Cowboys are hot because they wear chaps, boots and hats, they have good manners and are loyal to their loved ones.

  39. I would say that mysterious look a cowboy gives from underneath the brim of his hat...you know, his eyes are a bit shadowed, but you can tell he is looking at you?--Or maybe he just wants your maple doughnut.

Thanks for the opportunity to win your book!

  41. Let's see...tight jeans, pearl snap shirt, cowboy hat, big belt buckle, slow smile, twinkle in his eye, and long, lean body from riding horses all make a cowboy hot. Oh, just check out the cover! But so does his sense of honor and protectiveness.

I'm just finishing the Honky Tonk series and am sad it's about to end. But I'm starting the Saddles and Spurs series next so it's something to look forward to!
