Hippolyta Royle is running for her life. Pursued by hounds on a cold rainy night, the heiress flags down a passing carriage and throws herself at the mercy of the coach's occupant. Whoever this handsome traveler may be, he is her only hope to escape a terrible fate. But should he agree to escort her to safety, he's in for much more than he bargained for.
At first Matthew Mortimer doesn't believe Hippolyta's story, that she's a fabulously wealthy heiress who's been kidnapped. He assumes she's a beggar, an actress, or worse. But once his new travel companion washes the mud from her surprisingly lovely face, and they share a breathtaking kiss, there is no turning back.
My thoughts:
I had to read this one after having read Duke of Sin and seeing poor Hippolyta running away in the dark. It seems she got lucky and someone took pity on her.
Oh yes Matthew, but he was an ass about it. Yes I get that she looks and smells like shit, but why would you think she is a whore? Wouldn't like runaway farm girl be more of an answer? And yes actress that he thinks too, but the whore thing... I did want to hit him there.
But this is a novella and things move fast and I do forgive him because he wants her anyway. Just being an ass at first.
Conclusion
And then they lived happily ever after! After some drama and passion.

I would probably drop this book like a hot potato after reading his assumption. Hmmppph.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, she looks really strange when he finds her
DeleteIt's genetic, men can be assholes even on moments where they mean well
ReplyDeleteWhat an assumption to make! I would hit him right there too! -_-
ReplyDeleteHe needs a good kick
DeleteHa! If you have dirt on you you must be a whore I guess.
ReplyDeleteKaren @For What It's Worth
Haha, oh yes, and when you speak with a post accent, whores always do

ReplyDeleteRead Duke of SIn, so awesome
DeleteOk!
Deleteoh I think I would like this one, but I hope the hero improves through the book.
ReplyDeleteWell it's only 100 pages so yes
DeleteAh yes I remember your review for Duke of Sin. So this one sounds like a load of fun too!
ReplyDeleteThat one was amazing
DeleteEh, I don't think I would have forgiven him!
ReplyDeleteHe took in a person who smelled liked shit, he was a good guy in the end
DeleteYou are reading so much on your vacation already!
ReplyDeleteGotta catch em all!
DeleteYou should have virtually smacked him in the head or kicked his ass (wait isn't that the same thing when said ass is where his head should be?). :D Still sounds like you had fun when you forgave him. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL. I never thought about that before!
Deletelol. Glad he moved past being an ass. ;D Sounds like you are enjoying these books.
ReplyDeleteI did :)
DeleteSome guys just come off as jerks even when they mean well.
ReplyDeleteHe was kind but yes totally! Totes that vibe
DeleteNovella romances don't typically work for me because I never feel like there's enough time for anything to build. But I'm glad you enjoyed!

I hear ya. It happened so fast, but well I can live with it

Deletedrama...passion...yawn
ReplyDeleteYes so not for you
DeleteOoh cool title !!
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteDrama and passion it makes the world go round!
ReplyDeleteDrama, passion, happily ever after - what can be more straightforward? I love this formula too :) But yes, poop stink doesn't really equal prostitute (at least not in this reality - maybe they were in some alternate one???) Nevertheless, since not even the poop stink deterred him from claiming his prize, e.g. her, all is gladly forgiven :) As always, Linda, your review is a true delight to read :)
ReplyDeleteLOL, maybe the prostitutes he knew were covered in poop, ha.
DeleteIt did help when she finally took a bath,
:3 I need a good HR
