Best of List are SO hard. I feel bad for not talking about all my best ones when I rated them the same. I always want to do a best genre post too, but that is so hard! But I will try and some genres will just get more then
Best Book
The Brightest Fell by Seanan McGuire together with a 3 Anne Bishop were the best books of the year. No question asked about it.
Best UF Books
My first McGuire in Audio and I liked it! My first Briggs in audio and I liked it! I also really like Price's series in audio these days. And Part-time gods were better than book 2 so yay
Best Series/audiobook
I listened to all but Lake Silence this year and all were 5s or 4s. Alexandra Harris is AMAZING as a narrator. These are so much better in audio.
Best Fantasy
City of Lies was this great political one. Priest of Lies was a great follow-up, The Defiant Heir hit just the right spot and Chaos Mage was a great end to a saga.
Best World
All those things we take for granted in some books are turned on its head here and then it looks absurd. Which really says something about us. It's a world where women are men and men are women.
Best Re-read
All the feels
Best YA
AIDS, first love. Punch to the guts
Best Surprise
I was told I would not like this one cos I do not like grimdark, but hey this one was amazing. I guess it is just rapey main characters I do not like then.
Best PNR
Singh!
Best Fiction
Just as Fiction should be
Best Sci.fi
Sanderson is always great
Best WTF
Srsly, wtf
Best Short story
Mcguire sure is amazing
Best Horror
Very strange, the end could have been better though
Best Contemporary romance
Laughing out loud
Best Sci.fi fantasy
This genre is so hard to put a finger on. Great mix of things
Books that also should be here.
Other people's houses by Abbi Waxman
The bride test by Helen Hoang
Aurora Blazing by Jessie Mihalik
Best Historical romance
The Wallflower wager by Tessa Dare
Most memorable narrators of this year
Alexandra Harris
Justine Eyre
You read some good ones.
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteI agree about best lists - my list starts out pretty long and then I scratch things off to make it manageable. I always feel bad about the ones I scratched off. I haven't read any books on your list, I'm sad to say. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard, but ahem, I did talk about plenty so
DeleteNice list! And THANK YOU for the late rec on Heidi - I listened to that and LOVED IT! It made my favorite list even though I'd already finished the post.
ReplyDeleteI never did listen to more of the Keri Arthur books even though I really liked the first one. I was put off that we didn't stay in the same people, but maybe I'll try more.
Happy 2020!!
Right! And Andi is so great at narrating too, I have to listen more by her :D
Deleteyeah, I was not a fan of the story changing course, but it was interesting
I haven't read any of those but I'm glad you had a good time with them.
ReplyDelete:)
Deleteyay some great ones there and some I need to try!
ReplyDeleteGood list!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is ;)
DeleteAhh, GRAVE DESTINY is high on my TBR pile! CURSED, a sci-fi fantasy? Where have I been?! And I am reading AMATKA right now because of your review, so far it's....weird, but not a bad weird.
ReplyDeleteRead the one before Cursed too!
DeleteHaha, I know I know, wtf was Amatka, I mean srsly, but I just could NOT put it down
A lot of good ones here, now you have to read Starsight!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Omg, I jsut checked and it was not on my to bu list?!?! Why? I am sure it was there and therefore it missed out on my xmas splurg, sniff
DeleteNice list and only listened to the Anne Bishop books and of course read Wolf Rain. Totally agree with you.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Wolf :D
DeleteYes, it is agony to make these lists at times, but also fabulous to revisit in memory all the beloved books of the year. Love how you broke it down by genre and narrator. I still have several of these I want to read and there are a handful that were great reads/listens for me, too.
ReplyDeleteI like the genre thing, but it is hard cos they are always more in one genre ;)
DeleteMercy Thompson is so good on audio, right? Love Alexandra Harris' narration of The Others. It really enhances the stories. As you know, I loved The Wallflower Wager, too! Wolf Rain as well. It is hard to narrow it down, right?
ReplyDeleteI am glad I gave it a go, a it long in but hey it was worth it :D
DeleteOh Harris is AMAZING!
SO hard to narrow down
Best of the best lists are hard. It looks like you had a great reading year. I have The Wallflower Wager on my TBR pile.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you will enjoy it
DeleteGreat list and they are hard. I'm going to be adding some to my wish list!
