Series: The Band #1
Fantasy
Own
This was another book I did not expect to like, I mean that cover is just so, damn we are tough! Oh I do not know. This was just so much more than I expected. It was funny!
Clay used to be in a band, a famous monster killing band. Now he is old, but happy settled with a wife and kid.
Then their frontman shows up, his daughter ran away and put together her own band and is now behind enemy lines. Gabriel was the pretty boy turned old too.
They set out and find their mage, who is a bit all over the place. Then one who has turned king, and is just as old and fat as the rest of them. And last, well we will save the last one.
Their glory days are behind them, but they can still crack a few skulls.
It was a great cast of characters, they were not what I expected at all. Hidden depths or just, funny.
I truly enjoyed this book, it was quite the ride. I look forward to the next book. It is about someone else, but still connected.
Clay Cooper and his band were once the best of the best -- the meanest, dirtiest, most feared crew of mercenaries this side of the Heartwyld.
Their glory days long past, the mercs have grown apart and grown old, fat, drunk - or a combination of the three. Then an ex-bandmate turns up at Clay's door with a plea for help. His daughter Rose is trapped in a city besieged by an enemy one hundred thousand strong and hungry for blood. Rescuing Rose is the kind of mission that only the very brave or the very stupid would sign up for.
It's time to get the band back together for one last tour across the Wyld.
You are picking good ones. ❤️

It was a heavy metal fantasy ;)

ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
It sure did!
DeleteI would not think that this is a funny book based on that cover. Sounds like a great read!
ReplyDeleteThe cover makes total sense as you read it. It is an homage
DeleteI've gone back and forth on this one, although I've heard it was funny. Maybe I should take the plunge!
ReplyDeleteTake the plunge!
DeleteWell you peaked my interest. Fat, old retired skull crackers with humor. I would have never guessed looking at that male muscle hear me roar cover!
ReplyDeleteNah, they are old and useless, but they can still crack a few skulls with gusto, lol
DeleteIt is supposed to look like a fantasy metal cover
Another fantastic review Blodeuedd. How do you find these books?

DeleteOh... this sounds like a lot of fun - which you don't get all that often in fantasy. Great review. Thanks.
