Historical romance

To review

The narrator was great, I have listened to her before and she works so well with historical romance. Great with different voices and emotions.

But, something was not clicking with the story itself. I did not really like Sesily. She was a bit too much, and even though I was told she cared so much about everyone, well the way she acted I did not feel it. I also felt is SO weird that the ton called her Sexily, it brought me out of the time

Caleb was nice, but I felt that was all I knew, he was nice.

Sesily's gang, yes I did not understand that. I felt like I had missed like 5 previous books about how it all started and such, have I? Or? I felt thrown into something I had no idea about, and she was so callous about it all, like if I am in danger I will just kill someone..wait what?

So yes sadly I didn't really connect to anyone. The only people I felt were intriguing was a haughty Duke and a wallflower. I'd read about those two

After years of living as London’s brightest scandal, Lady Sesily Talbot has embraced the reputation and the freedom that comes with the title. No one looks twice when she lures a gentleman into the dark gardens beyond a Mayfair ballroom…and no one realizes those trysts are not what they seem. No one, that is, but Caleb Calhoun, who has spent years trying not to notice his best friend’s beautiful, brash, brilliant sister. If you ask him, he’s been a saint about it, considering the way she looks at him…and the way she talks to him…and the way she’d felt in his arms during their one ill-advised kiss.

Except someone has to keep Sesily from tumbling into trouble during her dangerous late-night escapades, and maybe close proximity is exactly what Caleb needs to get this infuriating, outrageous woman out of his system. But now Caleb is the one in trouble, because he’s fast realizing that Sesily isn’t for forgetting…she’s forever. And forever isn’t something he can risk.

  1. I can't believe I still haven't read anything by her! I do have a few on my Kindle though but I guess i won't start here.

  3. Okay - didn't work for you. How odd they pronounced her name the way they did.

  4. That's too bad! It's hard to like a book when you can't connect to the characters in it.

  5. I do love Mary Jane Wells narrations, but this story doesn't sound like my cup of tea. I've been seeing around everywhere though.

    1. I checked other reviews, most loved it and those who did not felt like me

  6. Interesting and great review. I've not read her stuff before, so it's good to know maybe don't jump in here. On my blog, Jennifer wrote in her review that the characters in this book are tied to both her Bareknuckle Bastards and Scandal & Scoundrel series. As someone who hasn't read any of them, sounds like I should start with one of the older series.

    1. I was about to say that! Yes - I think they are all tied together in the same world.
