Join in :D

Sun No idea. I guess I biked or walked?
Mon, 1 h bike, 1 h yoga
Tue, 1.20 h bike, 1 h workout class
Wed, 1 h yoga, 1 h bike
Thu, 1 h bike
Fri nothing

Sigh, I got a fever on Thursday and the worst sore throat ever. But then I have been somewhere everyday so no wonder if someone infected me.

..........................................

When all hope is gone, can love still find a way?

Tucker Simon has given up on love. After a tragedy, it’s just not in the cards for him, and he wishes his family would get off his back. He’s fine—or at least he thought he was--until a family wedding forces him to address a few things, namely his date, Abby Mathews. She's been put in the ‘friend’ category, mostly because she deserves so much more than what he can give. But the more time that he spends with her, Tucker begins to think that maybe there is a chance for love after all...

Abby Mathews has been in love with Tucker Simon since he walked into her family’s bar nearly a year ago. But he’s got baggage and heartache a plenty. His one-night-stands aren't going to lessen that no matter what he thinks. Tucker needs a friend, but Abby wants to give him more, and as they navigate their way through a weekend in Florida, their attraction can’t be ignored. Abby has to make a choice. Does she cherish their friendship and take what she can get? Or does she go after what she really wants, which is Tucker’s heart…

My thoughts:
I have no idea how the Simons's are rich, I guess that was in the Barker books? Eh, who knows. Seems they have money.

Tucker has issues. His wife went missing. He loves them and leaves them now.

Abby has issues. She has been in love with Tucker for months now. They are just friends, which is good, but she loves him.

He needs a date to get his mum off his back. Abby says yes.

We meet a bunch of Simons at a wedding. Sparks fly between Abby and Tucker. But can they get over the whole, my wife is missing!? Can I love again?! Duh, it's a romance, of course he can love again. And so they lived happily ever after. The end.

Conclusion:
Cute.

BookBlogWalkers Weekly Check-in Aug. 1, 2014 + Review of Offside - Juliana Stone

This challenge is organized by Felicia over at the Geeky Blogger's Book Blog.

It's that time again, my walking week, and this time I am throwing in a review in the post too (it had to do with ice-hockey so it connects, lol)

Saturday 30 min walk
Sunday - 30 min walk
Monday - 30 min walk + 10 km bike
Tuesday - 40 min walk + 6 km bike
Wednesday -30 min walk
Thursday - 5 km bike
Friday 55 min walk + 5 km bike

Work started again, so those longer bike roads will be around as much.

Sunday

When hockey phenom Billie-Jo Barker returns home and decides to play in the local Friday night hockey league, all hell breaks loose. Not because Billie's talent is in question, but because Billie is a woman. And though these are modern times, some of the local guys still have a problem letting a girl into their 'men's club.'

Soon, Billie is at the center of a small town battle of the sexes, with everyone choosing sides. Her sisters. The townsfolk. Her friends. And yet, the only person whose opinion she cares about doesn't seem to care much at all. Logan Forest, the man who broke her heart when she was eighteen and the man she now shares the bench with every Friday night.

She's got a lot to prove and though Billie Jo Barker scores on the ice, will this girl ever score with the man of her dreams?

My thoughts:
A girl comes back to her hometown and falls in love. Yes it's that story.

I can't say I like Billie's sisters. The first one is a stuck-up B, the other one just a mean B. But Billie was good. She loves hockey, and now she is back in her hometown and wants to play for fun. Men are being assholes, because they can't stand that a woman is better than them.

So Billie's sisters are not that nice. The men are not that nice. But then Billie meets Logan whom she has been in love with forever. This was the tricky part as he used to have a thing for her sister, her identical twin sister. I so did not need that part.

But all in all, a good short romance.

Author Interview and Giveaway: Juliana Stone

Today I interview Juliana Stone :)

Welcome!

1. Could you tell me a little bit about yourself?
Sure! I’m a Canadian with a love of music, books, hockey and baseball. I’m married with two kids.  Our house is also home to the most gentle dog you’d ever meet and the cat who drives her crazy!

2. Can you tell me about your book, The Day he kissed her?
The Day He Kissed Her is book 3 in the Bad Boys of Crystal Lake series and it is Mac’s book. He’s my tortured hero who thinks he doesn’t deserve anything good in his life, but all that changes when he hooks up with his one night stand from New Year’s Eve, Lily St. Clare.

3. Can you give me 3 reasons why Mac is the man to read about?
Mackenzie come’s from an abusive past so he’s got a lot of demons to deal with.  BUT, he’s loyal as hell, he likes to have a good time and man does the guy know how to make a woman purr.

4. Sometimes it’s fun to imagine who would play certain characters in a movie. Who would you see play Mac and Lily?

I based my character Mac on the very hot Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy fame, and Lily I’d pictured like the blond prosecutor on Law and Order, SVU. Cool as a cucumber.

5. You have also written PNR and Sci-fi. Is there any other genre you would also love to try?
Right now I’m also writing young adult contemporary fiction. My debut BOYS LIKE YOU releases in May.  I’ve got a middle grade book but it’s still kind of hush hush, but yes, I’m kind of dipping my toes all over the place and loving it.

6. What is coming next from you?
BOYS LIKE YOU, the contemporary young adult releases in May. After that I have JACK which is book 2 in my Family Simon series and that release this summer. We’re also chatting about more Crystal Lake books and I should have more information about that in a few weeks.

Thanks!

The Day he Kissed Her - Juliana Stone

Mac Draper finally has everything he’s always wanted: An amazing career. A New York City apartment. He’s this close to being free of his past forever. But a mind-blowing encounter with the sexy yet tough-as-nails Lily St. Clare has him delaying his plans to put Crystal Lake in his rearview mirror for good.

For Lily St. Clare the charming small town of Crystal Lake is her haven – a place she can hide from her famous, back-stabbing family. It’s as close to happy as she’s ever been. Until an unforgettable night with tall, dark and tortured Mac Draper gives her a glimpse of what true happiness feels like.

Lily can’t help but melt a little under the sizzling heat of Mac’s touch. But Mac’s scars run deep, and Lily’s afraid she may be falling for the one man who can never return her feelings...

My thoughts:
Mac and Lily gets their story here, and the last one of the Bad Boys are caught. But it works well as a stand alone.

Mac has demons a plenty. He grew up in a abusive household and thinks he will end up like his dad. I felt for him cos he so believed he would turn out bad, poor guy.

Lily grew up rich in a well known family. Her sister screwed her over, her brother died. And she is just trying to be herself and get her own life.

So two people with issues who think they can just start a fling and walk away. But you can't walk away when you start falling in love. So that the "drama" part.

Mac did say something effed up that made me mad. But I forgave him cos those demons in his head messed with him. Still not cool man.

Conclusion:
A romance that builds and a passion that stays.

Review: The Christmas he Loved Her - Juliana Stone

All he wants this Christmas is her. In the small town of Crystal Lake, Christmas is a time for sledding, hot chocolate, and cozying up to the fire with those you love. For Jake Edwards, it’s also time to come home and face his past. He thought there would never be anything harder than losing his brother. Turns out there is: falling in love with his brother’s widow, Raine.

Ever since they were little, Jesse was the Edwards brother who was always there for her, and Jake was the one who knew just how to push her buttons. Raine can’t imagine a life without them, which is why it was doubly decimating when Jake left town after his brother’s sudden death. Now he’s back and she doesn’t know whether to be mad or thrilled. Maybe both. Maybe it will be the perfect chance for both of them to finally find happiness again.

My thoughts:
This is book 2 but yes I would say you can read it as a stand alone. Still it's always more fun to have read book 1 first. Also the book was good, but not as good as book 1. But that is because they were about different things. This one had a lot of emotional turmoil.

Raine lost her husband 1,5 years ago. But, yes then there are those forbidden feelings she has now for her brother in law Jack. She is fighting with herself, she wants him, but drama drama. And Jack wants her too but he keeps thinking about his brother. Also seems he has PTSD from the war and he was there when his brother died.

As you can see the romance has a lot of bumps in the road. If it is not one thing it is another thing. These lovers can't catch a break. And they fit each other so well, they truly should be together.

But love always finds a way and it is a romance after all.

Conclusion:
Two emotionally scarred people looking for love.

Would I read more by this author?
yes

Casa for the Holidays Blog Tour and Giveaway

November 4, 2013 Book Girl of Mur-Y-Castell Guest Blog: Sourcebooks Holiday Authors

For today’s Casa for the Holidays blog post, our authors are chatting about their favorite holiday traditions!

Juliana Stone, author of The Christmas He Loved Her:
There are several holidays throughout the year that I absolutely love but for me, the one I look forward to the most is Christmas.  Thanksgiving is wonderful and ours falls in early to mid October, so that means all the fall fairs, apple cider, turkey, and pumpkin pie.  But Christmas is the one holiday that always takes me back to when I was a kid and still BELIEVED.

Now, my kids are teens and they’re not up at the crack of dawn anymore, but that’s okay since Christmas Eve is where it’s at.  A couple of our friends always have open houses Christmas Eve and we drop in for some visiting, laughs and drinks. Once we get home, I always settle in with a bottle of wine and while I wrap the stocking stuffers (yes I’m a  mom who loves to wrap every single thing) I watch It’s A Wonderful Life with my mom (who comes with my dad and spends the night).  We relax, chat, and have a great night.

Every. Single. Christmas Eve.  And I hope it never changes.

Terry Spear, author of A SEAL Wolf Christmas:
We always decorate the day after Thanksgiving so from that day until after New Year's, the house is cheery with sparkly lights and evergreen boughs, red bows, and decorations we've picked up over the years that meant something special. We also pass around our Christmas wish lists at Thanksgiving, and the night before Christmas, we open one gift. The next morning, someone passes out presents and while we're drinking eggnog or tea, we make a mess with gift wrappings everywhere. Every year, someone knows they bought a present that can't be located and we find it when the decorations are put away. We also love to share all the funnies of shopping for the gifts, because something always happens that we're dying to tell about but can't until we give out the gifts.

Carolyn Brown, author of The Cowboy’s Christmas Baby:
These days since the family has grown so much Husband and I have Easter, complete with a huge Easter egg hunt in our back yard, and Thanksgiving, complete with Husband getting out the guitar and the whole family two-stepping all over the house or out on the yard if the weather is good. But on Christmas, the kids all stay at home so Santa can visit. Even the grandkids who are old enough to vote and buy their own beer know that Santa doesn’t come down the chimney unless they believe and everyone in our family believes.

Husband and I call them all sometime on Christmas Day to say Merry Christmas from the beach in Florida where we go for a two week vacation every year. We dig our toes into the sand, feed the sea gulls cheese puffs, give a saucer of milk to the black and white cat that belongs to the motel and love being together on Christmas Day.

Grace Burrowes, author of Lady Jenny’s Christmas Portrait:
Growing up, the best part of Christmas, from my perspective, was ten days home from school. Ten days to sleep in, play in the snow, read, bake cookies, take long walks in the winter-bare woods, make more cookies, wrap presents, decorate the house… ten days to NOT WORRY about this or that homework assignment, test, or quiz.

It’s still my favorite aspect of the winter holidays. Because I was one of seven children, and the entire family could barely fit in one station wagon, we weren’t much for traveling in the winter. The occasional cousin might pass through before Christmas on the way to visit parents, grandparents sometimes popped in for a day or two, but mostly, we stayed put and had Christmas at home.

I loved that. I loved having time to myself at home, though Christmas break was by no means entirely consumed with hibernation. I have siblings thirteen years my senior, which meant from the time I was quite small, those siblings might grab a few of us “little guys” and head out for a skating expedition to Tait’s pond, a day of skiing at Oregon Hill, a winter hike up to the fire tower if it wasn’t too awfully cold. It didn’t hurt that our front yard was the best sledding hill in the neighborhood, either.

Then too, I grew up in a college town, and that meant the university skating rink was a possible destination. If Mom really needed the house to herself for an afternoon, she might send a group of us off to the movies, and that was lovely—my grandmother’s candy store was right next door to the theatre, and Nana ALWAYS allowed us to sample the inventory.

Christmas then, was about spending time at home and in the company of family. The big meals, the presents, the religious rituals for me were all secondary, and to this day, unstructured time in the place I call home is my greatest treasure.

Review: The Summer He Came Home - Juliana Stone

Sometimes the best place to find love is right back where you started…

Falling asleep in a different bed every night has made it easy for Cain Black to forget his past. It’s been ten years since he packed his guitar and left Crystal Lake to chase his dreams. Now tragedy has forced him home again. And though Cain relishes the freedom of the road, one stolen moment with Maggie O’Rourke makes him wonder if he’s missing out on something bigger than fame.

For Maggie—single mother and newly settled in Crystal Lake—love is a luxury she just can’t afford. Sure, she appreciates the tall, dark and handsome looks of prodigal son Cain Black. But how long can she expect the notorious hellion to stay?

The last thing either of them wants is something complicated. But sometimes love has its own plans.

My thoughts:
Sexy bad boy rocker meets hardworking single mum. What is there not to like?

Cain was not the bad boy everything thinks he is, ok somewhat, but mostly he is kind, loves his friends and is also a hurt cos of what his ex did. I had to like him at once.

Then there is Maggie, she works as a cleaning lady, she loves her son and she certainly knows not to fall for Cain. She is also a bit of a mystery which brought some tension into the drama.

I love a book where the man does the chasing. Cain falls for her, he wants her. But then he is a rocker with a bad rep. Of course anyone would be careful, even if I some times just wanted to shout let go to her, cos come on, he is a hottie ;)

Conclusion:
A romantic drama that brings in suspense too at the ending. But mostly it's about life, love and friendship. A sweet story with heart.
