But when Felicity accidentally receives the dress, along with Osterley’s affectionate note, it sets into motion a tale of scandalous misunderstandings and love in the last place you look.

Gah! I was doing so well with not jumping into the middle of a book series. Whoops! Luckily this does well as a standalone since it is just a short story in-between the other books. 

Now...first....I must say....I AM UTTERLY IN LOVE WITH THIS COVER! Look at that beautiful dress! The flowers!? The colors?! So beautiful!

Alright.

Now, this story follows Felicity and her guardian Harris. Harris has been her guardian for the last 4 years since Felicity lost her parents and her brother which happened to be Harris' bestie. Harris has pretty much kept his distance from Felicity for many reasons that are not 100% clear to Felicity since they used to be friends in their youth. Things happen and Felicity accidentally receives a dress that Harris meant to send to his wannabe mistress. This dress, of course, causes a scandal because it is so beautiful and risky. 

This was a fun little story. I enjoyed how complex the author made this story and the characters. It is a rare day a short story can do this. I did not feel this was too short or missing anything. I really enjoyed the characters and their journey to find themselves, work past the past, and find the love inside their hearts for each other. 

The ending was very unlikely and made me roll my eyes...but it was bearable I suppose since I enjoyed everything else. 

I do want to go back to the beginning of the series and read book 1. The author's short story was good...I wonder what a full novel will be like. 

Besides for the unlikely ending, this was a good one. I swear! It is 50/50 with these Amazon freebies. It is either really good oorrrrrrr super meh. This falls under really good. I'll give this 4 stars.

My thoughts:

I liked Rhys and Margaret. He was really focused on being a doctor, she loved her plants. She was a total nerd for plants. They are penpals in a time when a single woman and a single man weren't. But it is sort of a scientific correspondence so that works ;)

But they are just friends.

And then she goes to London to show off her roses.

And you know when you meet someone for real then it's just better.

Friends are sure good to have. Good to banter with, flirt with, dance with.

Yes there is a fun dance between these two, but always there is an obstacle in their way, but when that is over they can all live happily ever after.

My thoughts:

The premise is...well I honestly want to kick Ned and John in a very private place. The game was a really crappy thing to come up with.

They change places, John Turner pretends to be an Earl. But he will start to fall for someone and he is just a miller (but his book is book 2.) He does seem like a good person except when he tries to ruin things for Ned.

Ned, oh yes, he is way too sure of himself and is all look at me. Now he has to pretend to be a secretary. And win the hand of a lady of birth. But how he bumbles along. Still, he does learn not to be so arrogant. But you know, he is an ass at first.

Pheobe then, she is a governess. Her dad died after losing their money. She is angry at a certain lord and drama!

Conclusion:
I still liked it cos Ned does change and he genuinely likes her. It was a sweet book.

My thoughts:

This was a cute and funny novella. Yes there has been a misunderstanding, but it was not dragged out forever, they actually talked and understood that there had been a misunderstanding. I know, it's hard to believe, but people talk about things in this book.

We have Cecilia who eloped at 16, and now lives with her sister and ass of a brother in law. But it's a good enough life, she does like teaching. She can not forgive the one she eloped with.

Theo was the one she eloped with and he can not forgive her either.

They meet again. They need to find Cecilia's cousin. They talk, they flirt and live happily ever after.

Conclusion:
It was cute, short and nice. Noble does not disappoint.

A Madness in Spring by Kate Noble 

Enemies to lovers, yay. Yes I adore that. They were enemies for silly childhood reasons though, but enemies none the less. Belinda and Adam has teased each other for 15 years, but then a matchmaker shows up. Haha, good for her, they obviously liked each other behind all that you are so annoying. So let's make them realise that.

I liked her, I liked him, I liked the dance between them. A nice spring story.

The Summer of Wine and Scandal by Shana Galen 

Here comes the summer story. Peregrine, a real dandy, meets Caroline, who is not worried when she gets muddy. She thinks him a dandy (duh), he likes her. But she has a secret, and trust me this was a SECRET. It made me sad, I felt so sorry for her. Cos it is a SECRET. But it's also a romance and they lived happily ever after. Nice

Those Autumn Nights by Theresa Romain 

Autumn comes and Bertie meets Eliza, the woman he used to love. Who chose her family over a poor soldier. But then he rented her family home cos they got poor, and he was all, ha, look at me now.

But again, this is a romance, so they will end up together after some drama. And all is well.

The Season for Loving by Vanessa Kelly 

The last one is one for Christmas. Georgie, who helped all previous couples end up together, wants freedom of her own. But then this sexy brooding Scot shows up. And she likes him, but he is all my past! Alas, we cannot. But then they lived happily ever after.

Oh I enjoyed this! I liked that it was set in the same village, the same people were around, sure new people showed up so they could find love, but the it was like I knew the village and those in it. I also liked that it was one story for each season.

Conclusion:
A sweet anthology, that does not feel like an anthology as everything is connected and continues :)

Xmas freebie was on my mind as I downloaded this book and at once I went to my nook.

Reading about a couple, oh forget this, I can't rhyme.

Andrew needs a hunting bird and meets Lucy. She wants to go to a xmas party, he is all proper and stiff.

Long story short, he saves the day so she can attend the party but boom! they get stranded and get to know each other. And fall in love :)

Cute and fun.

My thoughts:

1803 - The Seduction of a Duchess by Shana Galen 

It was a good short story. I got the backstory and could just fall into the world. Also it was nice that an older woman found romance for once. Wohoo for her! And with a younger man ;)

The story does mention people from her series, but it works splendidly as it is.

1818 - One Kiss for Christmas by Vanessa Kelly 

This was a sweet story where the beta gets the girl. And I liked Nigel, sure he was dependable, but hey when did that turn bad? He was wonderful :) I am glad she finally saw the light.

1825 - His Christmas Cinderella by Anna Campbell 

A Cinderella story, where I went all awww, how sweet! A girl of meager means gets her Lord :)

1830 - The Last First Kiss by Kate Noble 

I did like this one, he came back, and she was all changed and he was all no! You are my little Susie! But oh no, she was a woman now. And he fell fast and then they lived happily ever after.

I liked these short stories! Cute, fun and they all took place during this Winter Ball :) Perfect before xmas.

My thoughts:

This is the 4th book but yes it could also be read as a stand alone. The first 2 takes place a few years before book 3 and this one, and book 3, well in that one we see Jason fall in love and that is how this book starts. Jason leaves Sarah on their engagement party. If I had not read book 3 I am sure I would have been very unhappy with him, but he was in love, and Sarah, wanted stability only.

The Sarah that used to be is transformed after The Event into the darling of the Ton, cos else she is just The Girl who lost a Duke. She becomes more snobbish and knows how to cut someone. But she is not unlikable as you see that it's only a facade she puts up to deal with all the whispers and of course she was sad too since she thought they would have been happy.

In comes Jackson Fletcher, an old friend who does not like the new Sarah. He wants the old Sarah back, I do like that they have history, and that he is not fooled by a pretty face. But for these two to actually fall in love takes time, a lot of time. I can't say anything more, but they do avoid each other or argue a lot. But he falls, and she needs to let go.

And of course there is Blue Raven business going on (he is a spy), there is danger, a sinister plot and Sarah and Jackson is in the middle of it all. We also meet Marcus and Philippa (book 1) again as Philippa is the one who makes Sarah into the Golden lady. And it's always fun to meet up with old couples.

Conclusion:

It was what I wanted it to be. I also found myself interested in reading a book about her sister, I think it could be fun.

Review: Compromised - Kate Noble

Miss Gail Alton is not having a good day. Or a good year. First, her new stepmother strong-arms her into attending the Season as a foil to her beautiful sister Evangeline. Then, while riding her mare in the park, she gets toppled by a stuffy, self-important, too-handsome-by-half "gentleman" who has the audacity to blame her for their fall into the chilly lake! Little does she know that the very same man will soon be found in a compromising position with Gail's sister. 

Forced into asking for Evangeline's hand in marriage, Maximillian, Viscount Fontaine, can't take his mind off the irksome girl who threw him from his horse and who can match wits with him at every turn. He's determined to follow through with his best intentions, yet he can't deny that every encounter with Gail makes him want to cast propriety aside-and whisk away the sister of his soon-to-be bride.

My thoughts: 

I am going to make this short (Edit: did not work) because mostly I am just annoyed by this book. Kate Noble is an excellent writer, the book is good, fun, but the story. I did not like it one bit.

Max our hero compromises lovely Evangeline. He finds her alluring and wants to do naughty things with her. At the same time he is annoyed by her sister who he calls the brat. Ok everything seems fine, except for the fact that Evangeline is not the heroine. The Brat, also known as Gail is the heroine. Gail is smart, witty and I like her. But this whole mess annoyed me. He starts having feelings for Gail, still he plans to marry the sister and likes her looks. And when he finally gets that he loves Gail, well too little too late. I do not want to read about that. It could have worked if the bride to be had been a bitch, or not known to us. But her own sister, who does that? Shame on you Gail, shame on you Max. Sure I know the two of you are meant to be but it was gone about all wrong. I am not spoiling things when I mentioned the smexing, we all know there is smexing in HR, always. That just got me more annoyed, as if it was possible.

So sadly this book annoyed me. It was not the writing, no, it was the story. It so did not work for me, and I kind of already knew that from the start. The blurb had already told my inner booklover that the book might not be for me, but it's Kate Noble! Of course I had to get this debut book from her. She is still an autobuy, and I have found my biggest romance pet peeve.

Conclusion:

Sadly annoying :/ But do try her other books! And you might like this one too, if you do not get so worked up as I did.

Review: The Summer of You - Kate Noble

Jane must face the much discussed mysterioso after he saves her brother from a pub brawl. She immediately recognizes him from London: Byrne Worth, war hero and apparent hermit-whom she finds strangely charming. The two build a fast friendship, and soon nothing can keep this Lady away from Merrymere's most wanted. Convinced of his innocence, Jane is determined to clear Byrne's name-and maybe have a little fun this summer after all. 

My thoughts:

I did not like it as good as book 1, or book 3 for that matter, but it was still a very good book. And I truly loved the hero. I can't put my finger on what made it slightly not as good since the couple was great, the village quaint, the plot good, and, oh it is a mystery.

To the story then. The couple met briefly in book 1, but do not worry, this one can be read wonderfully on its own, and I must also say that I like that I read book 3 before this one. Because Jason was sure a child at the beginning of this one, not yet grown up mentally to take over the estate, even if he is 24. Anyway, it is not his story, it is Jane's. Jane who I did not like that much in book 1, and now suddenly, yes I liked her. She has a lot to think about, with her father being ill, and her mourning her mother, and she has also grown up. I also liked that she has a streak of rebellion in her. Cos I sure would not want to find a highwayman and put him behind bars.

The hero, oh, yes I loved him. Byrne is broken, and I do like a broken hero. He is the village hermit who scowls at everyone. He does not want company, he does not want pity and he is in pain after the war. To see him smile as she brought out the best in him was the best in this novel.

And then we have the whole village who does not like Byrne. A young Miss who thinks she is in love with Jason, Jason who just want to have fun (and not meet the village ladies), and a nice look at the daily life of them all. Together it brings out the best in everyone, and the worst.

Conclusion:

The sweetness, it is the sweetness that I like about these, and the fact that they wait and not jump each other at once.

My thoughts:

Yes this is what historical romance should be like. Sweet, fun and just adorable in every way. 

Phillippa is the leading lady of the ton. She can sure be a bit snobbish, but that is not her true self. So I have to like her at once. She is funny, nice, she can be careless, she wants too much, she does not see what is in front of her, but everything just makes me like her more. 

The hero, Marcus Worth soon becomes entangled with her, and he regrets the day it happened. He is calm, analytic, nerdish, and yes I have to like him too. And is he the elusive Blue Raven? Together they banter, and fall for each other, but of course both do not acknowledge that. He is a bore, she is a snob. The perfect couple. 

You will never be bored when reading this book. The plot will keep you busy, the hunt for a French spy, and of course how Phillippa goes from party to party. She does not sit still. There is always something that kept me turning the page to find out what happens, I smiled, and I knew I want more. 

Conclusion:

So yes of course I recommend this book. Now I just need book 2.

Review: Follow my lead - Kate Noble

Jason Cummings, Duke of Rayne is feeling the weight of his responsibilities - one of which is to get married.  Being the most sought after bachelor in London can be trying,  so who can blame him if he seeks refuge from the voracious hordes of young debutantes at the decidedly female-free Historical Society?  Female-free, that is, until Winnifred Crane marches up to the door, demanding entrance. Despite her prowess as a historian, Winn is denied membership the Society.  So she daringly offers an unusual bargain: if she can prove the authenticity of a certain painting, she'll be granted recognition, fame, and respect.  But to do that, she must go abroad. And to go abroad, she must have an escort, even a stubbornly unwilling one.. Jason has no desire to accompany Winn on her adventure across Europe, but even he is not immune to Winn's passion for her profession. As the journey proves more difficult than planned, they must work together to stay one step ahead of their rivals.... and the closer they get to the proof Winn seeks, the closer she and Jason become.  

My thoughts:

I actually missed that this was a series, so it's a perfect stand alone novel. The other two books are about Jason's sister and her sister in law. I sure want to read those books too.

In this book Jason (our dashing hero) thinks it's time to get married. I did like that it was he who wanted it because he thought it was time. Of course he was not ready for the horrible horde: débutantes. He does meet one normal woman named Sarah, poor Sarah. We all know she will not get a HEA in this one and I did feel sorry for her. But then why would she want to marry someone who is in love with someone else. Still I was happy to learn that she will get the next book. Back to Jason, I almost feel sorry for him too. He runs after Winnifred because he thinks she is in trouble. And then he most follow her all over Europe. I said almost sorry because I was just so amused to see him follow her lead. He was a strong character who did not want to leave her alone in the middle of no where. Right, Win then, well she wanted freedom and she wanted people to know she had a brain. She was smart but also a bit stupid because she did not realize that freedom does not mean you have to be alone. What we have in the end is a duke who wants to marry a perfect nice woman and a woman who is anything but that.

The book was so utterly charming. I kept on smiling. They get in a lot of trouble and situations and their bantering is so amusing. This is how I want my historical romance. Funny and sweet. Also they do get a bit passionate but that was after they knew each other, and had started to fall in love even if they denied it. I  still smile when I think of this book.

Conclusion:

A great book to read this summer. An adventure in search of clues, and a couple so amusing you have to love them. I will definitely read more books by Kate Noble. Her backlist is already on my wishlist.
