Book review: Can't hurry love - Christie Ridgway

Series: Three Kisses 3
Genre: Contemporary romance
Pages: 320
Published: July 5th 2011 Berkley

Liam Bennett staked his claim to Tanti Baci after stepping in to help the Baci sisters save their family legacy. But Giuliana Baci doubts his motives. They've been at odds since the hot summer long ago that ended in heartache. With the fate of the winery on the line, the former lovers need to get a handle on their barely leashed hostilities-and the attraction that still draws them toward each other.
My thoughts:
This is the third and final book about the 3 Baci Sisters from Napa Valley. It can easily be read as a stand alone (though I did read book 2 but I have not read book 1 yet.)

Giuliana "Jules" Baci fell in love when she was young, but their love story came to a halt and they have not been civil to each other for ten years. Why they broke up is a mystery to everyone else and to the reader. Back to the characters, Jules is the mother hen for her two younger sisters, and Liam is still in her life as he owns a share of the winery and his half-brother is married to her sister.  These two sure can not get along and I did wonder what on earth made them like that, but little by little we understand what happened that fateful summer so long ago.

Jules has a lot on her plate. She is a strong woman but at the same time there is sadness over her cos of the things she has lost. While Liam also is portrayed as strong and the one who is doing the chasing. He wants her or just wants her out of his system. I do like a good lovers reunited story and these two clearly love each other and always have. But then there is that summer....

There is also other things going on. What will happen to the winery? And a slowly building romance between Kohl who works at the winery and Grace who also works there. I liked this story because they both had big emotional scars. Grace had been abused and Kohl was traumatized from the war.

A lovely romance about lovers who find their way back to each other, and at the same time we get a second lovestory playing in the background. It was very enjoyable and sweet.

Sweet summer read

I am over at Alternative read today with a guestreview of Star of the Morning by Lynn Kurland

From the USA Today bestselling author comes the first in a magical romantic fantasy trilogy.

Darkness covers the north, since the black mage has begun his assault on the kingdom of Neroche. Legend has it that only the two magical swords held by Neroche's king can defeat the mage. Now the fate of the Nine Kingdoms rests in the hands of a woman destined to wield one of those blades. In this land of dragons and mages, warrior maids and magical swords, nothing is as it seems. And Morgan will find that the magic in her blood brings her troubles she cannot face with a sword-and a love more powerful than she has ever imagined

  8. @Aurian
I would like to see those shelves :) Filled with books you are not sure if you have or not. Awesome

It's a great trope :D true love never dies, it is just lost and hurt.
True it is not bad, it is just very meh. Nothing pops

    Then you would enjoy it

  9. Sounds really cute. Perfect for the season *g*
*points judging finger* OMG you read out of order! LOL ;)

  10. Caro
Schhhhhhhh!!!! The out of order police will get me. They are very strict about things like this

  11. Oooh, a novel set in Napa Valley, which is near where I live. I have to look into this further as the story sounds as lovely as the setting.

  12. " Oh you can't hurry love, no, you just have to wait, love doesn't come easy, it's a bit of give and take..."

Old good Phil Collins anyone? Jive at its best, I loved dancing to this song!

No, I won't read this book. End of the story. No way. Melissa you will never walk alone...oups another song.

  13. This sounds like a fun series and since it's set near me I want to check it out.

  14. Wait, I think I might've read the first book or two in this series.

  15. Hahaha, I'm just as bad as you. I tend to find myself reading books out of order all the time...I've been trying to make sure I don't. Great review! ^.^

  16. I've read this author before and enjoy her work. This sounds like a good one, too.

  17. yeah that cover is kind of dull, LOL :-)

  18. This does sound like a great summer candy fun read. :) Thanks!

  19. Can't believe I haven't heard of this romance series before. It does sound good.

  20. This sounds like a cute summer read.
I have loved stories with old lovers coming back to each other , ever since reading Persuasion.
    Great review!

  21. Sounds cute! I bought the 2nd book based on your review but haven't had a chance to read it yet :(

  22. Sounds good. I also am glad you read out of order. I do that all the time.

  23. Now I'm completely curious as to what happened that summer.

And it's like this book encourages you to drink wine while reading. gotta love that.

  24. going by your review, the story sounds "hanging"... even the readers does not know why... even in the end?

  25. @Steph
I really liked the setting, I can't even imagine it. We can't really grow that here.

    I can't even tempt you?.....*puppy eyes*
Oh shoot, I knew it would not work. And yes perhaps not the book for you

I hope you check it out :D

    You have?

  26. @Carole

    Totally, poor dull cover

    Yes :D Yay summer reading

  27. @Jenny
Then it was good that I brought it to your attention :D

Awww Persuasion. Sure I love PP but nowadays Persuasion is my fav JA story. Love the book.

Oh :/ Lol, well I am there with you. So many books waiting for me too

  28. Mystica
Lol, yay one more person on our reading out of order club :D And sometimes one just have to. Especially when I can find nothing at my book store so I have been doing it since I was little

Oh yes that summer *ominous music*
If I liked wine then yes I do think I would have drunk it ;)

Of course we know in the end. But the whole plot is knowing little by little. it is their secret

  29. Grace and Kohl would grab my attention way more than Liam and Jules *eek*

  30. Sounds super cute and sweet. I would like to read it :)

  31. Oh puppy eyes...I almost gave in but the weak moment passed. Uff...that was hard.

  32. Are Grace and Kohl going to get a book or does their whole story unfold inside of this book? This sounds like a cute story, I always enjoy stories where the relationships didn't work out for whatever reason initially and they try again:)

  33. @Leontine
Well they did get a big spotlight so I am sure you would be happy

I do love sweet and cute :D

*sad* Oh well, if you have to be mean ;)

Nope they had their romance and got together :) So they had an happy ending too

  34. i'm in the mood for a cute contemporary romance!

  35. I don't mind sweet at all and I'm a sucker for trilogies!!

  36. I wasn't feeling that cover either. The story sounds sweet. It is actually the type of romance I like...where they have known each other for years but something.

That love at first sight stuff is romantic but not as realistic.

  37. @Carrie
They are just the books to read now and again :D Normal and sweet

Sweet is the best! :D I am all for cute and sweet

And these two, way back, were also friends before they took that step and started dating. So they have known each other all their life :D

  38. Liz
No, there is a closed ending. All is well and everything is out
