Sigh, ever since the Fall of Antibiotics my health has been crappy, so this was the week of pink eye and now my sinuses are acting up (surely that sore throat from earlier spread). I should take it easier but then I would never get anything done.

A decade ago, the Marquess of Bourne was cast from society with nothing but his title. Now a partner in London’s most exclusive gaming hell, the cold, ruthless Bourne will do whatever it takes to regain his inheritance—including marrying perfect, proper Lady Penelope Marbury.
A broken engagement and years of disappointing courtships have left Penelope with little interest in a quiet, comfortable marriage, and a longing for something more. How lucky that her new husband has access to such unexplored pleasures.
Bourne may be a prince of London’s underworld, but he vows to keep Penelope untouched by its wickedness—a challenge indeed as the lady discovers her own desires, and her willingness to wager anything for them... even her heart.
My thoughts:
Ok a review of thoughts coming up. So that means SPOILERS because I am gonna talk about what I feel...what happens...
spoilers darling, spoilers
I am at page 100 now and wtf, I hate this guy. I freaking hate this guy! He kidnaps her, he manages to seduce her and then he says mean things and leaves her when she is most vulnerable. And then they have to marry because these were fucked up times. I hate him. All he cares about is his land, well you know what, I hope you get castrated.
200
He is still being a d¤ck. There was another sex scene and it made me uncomfortable. She was into it, he just kept thinking about his revenge.
280
Can this guy stop whining?! Boo I lost everything, boohoo me. Poor me. I hate everything and everyone. I shall have my revenge. Be a MAN.
On a plus side, still being a total asshole, he does suddenly feel something for his bride. *eyeroll* You mean your best friend from childhood who you kidnapped so you could have your precious land? Whatever man, whatever.
The end
So am I supposed to be happy that he FINALLY saw the light and gave up his revenge to be happy with the woman he loved. That stupid idiotic woman who kept loving him. He did not deserve her. This could have been an old school romance, the only thing missing was actually hitting and abusing her.
Conclusion:
But, MacLean is a good writer, I will give her that. I just hated the story. So it was ok because good writing, terrible story. Of course I really want to just rate, hated it.

Great job on the workouts, but don't over do it while your feeling well. It will just take longer for you to get better. I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I know I should take it easy, but I do not want to rest for months. I think the air at work is making me sick
DeleteThis is exactly the type of "romance" in HR that I hate & it happens so often.
ReplyDeleteI do like MacLean so I'm glad I have the heads up to skip this particular book.
Karen @ For What It's Worth
Skip it. Totally not worth it. He just made me SO mad
DeleteI love MacLean too, sorry this one made you nuts. Great job working out!
ReplyDeleteSo not the book for me
DeleteLOL he really was a class A ass. Holy cow he made me want to hurt him pretty much the whole book. I did like it in the end though but lordy that man.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to kick him in the balls every single page
DeleteYou kicked booty on the workouts! And those reformed rakes are the best. Esp. if they're assholes to start with.
ReplyDeleteOh but this asshole were too much of an asshole, I hated him to the end
DeleteOh, I really like her books but haven't read this yet. Thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteAwww...I hope you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteThanks
DeleteHa! This is why I never shared my thoughts on this one :) I liked it but it was also a very frustrating read at times. Great review!
ReplyDeleteSo frustrating! Honestly that man
DeleteOh, lordy, that hero sounds dreadful. Yuck!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your workouts!!
Alpha ahole
DeleteOh I'm sorry that this one wasn't for you...
ReplyDeleteIt happens
DeleteSo he DOESNT get castrated? Sucks to be you. Haha. Or maybe not, you are unhealthy yet you are able to exercise so much. Im envious, frankly.
ReplyDeleteHaha, sadly not ;)
DeleteI feel okish so I soldier on
I read this one a while back, although I also had some problems with it I think I enjoyed more than you did.
ReplyDeleteI think so too. I was just angry
DeleteI am sorry you are not feeling well B. I hope you will be better soon. This book is of course a much used trope, but a whining hero and a spineless heroine, no thank you.
ReplyDeleteAll the freaking time, whine whine whine and she was not much better. Sigh
DeleteDickish men in romances also piss me off. Not a turn on at all, so I'd probably be totally with you on this one.
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon!
~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
I was not romanced, I did not want to save him. That which he did in the beginning to her, I would never forgive that
DeleteGah. I hate men like these.
ReplyDeleteBTW - good job this week! I was vair lazy myself. XI
Thanks!
DeleteArrgh I'm hearing you ... hope you feel better this week but you still did awesome with the exercise. I think I'll pass on A Rogue By Any Other Name ... I need some happy reading ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, I try even though I should take it easy
DeleteGreat review, Linda :) I think I had issues with this book as well, but it's been a long time and I don't remember the details.
ReplyDeleteIt was just not for me
