Being engaged to a world famous film star might sound very glamorous and romantic - but it wasn't as Vicki had learned the hard way when her relationship with Miller went sour, Now she wanted a chance to regain equilibrium away from the glare of publicity - and what better place to do it than that most beautiful of cities, Florence? The only flaw in the arrangement was the enigmatic Ricco Salvatore who made no secret of his apparent attraction to her. But how could Vicki take him seriously when he always had the glamorous Bianca in tow?
Hide and seek
She could resist love but not blackmail!
Donna had fled to Paris when she discovered that she'd been deceived by her father's business assistant, Brodie Fox. Now she was enjoying a new life there as a translator.
But her father's illness and her twin brother Gavin's serious predicament had brought Brodie back into her life.
Donna could save her family--by accepting Brodie's offer, one that had more to do with business than with love. Or she could save herself. She had to choose....
My thoughts:
Heat of the Night
I really do not remember these being so silly, people are arguing all the time! Vicky just keeps going and going, honestly why does no one stop and explain things! But gods, they are still so amusing.
It also had the fastest ending. It was wrapped up between them in 5 minutes, but left SO many loose endings. Not to mention that before that she and Rocco had argued constantly for 180 pages. And then they were in love and lived happily ever after. LOl, so amusing.
Hide and Seek
How can these be so badly good? They are so silly. Again there is a couple that does nothing else than argue for 99,99% of the book. Accusations are thrown, things are never explained, and when they are they are not believed. And then boom in the last page all is forgiving and I am all wtf. LOL
I see these as a 80s soap opera. So much over the top drama. Just read the explain of the previous book and there is this one again.
But amusingly bad, which makes them good, cos omg, you will read it like i under 2 hours.

I think this was a good example how if you make a modern adaption then do change things!
First Anne met Wentworth at 17 (or 16) and wanted to marry him before even having finished HS. Yes her dad said no cos Rick had no money, but omg, hello! She had not even finished HS!
He was actually given an ultimatum, wait for her to finish college and then get married and he just walked away. What an effing ahole. That did not make me like him.
In the book her sis married that Charles guy even though he was in love with Anne. We never got an explanation why someone today would feel the need do do that. Why did he? Why did she? Also she must have married very young since she had 2 kids and were under 25. I am not saying people can not marry young but these two did not even like each other. It was a status thing. You can't be on the shelf either.
The Musgroves at once thought that Rick could marry one of their daughters. That worked great back then, now the whole eligible bachelor was just really? Bad parenting.
Anne was fond of reading. Rick was a really famous author. She had never heard of him. He went into the navy 8 years ago, became a writer and was now rich.
What else...oh her sister dated their Elliott cousin, like euwww. Modern days, maybe not do that.
These two had almost no interaction before the letter, fine I believed it in those days, but now, I can not even see why you two like each other?!
Poor Anne, not married at 25. Omg how tragic.
The Lyme couple got engaged as in the real version too...too fast now.
All these people are idiots.
Omg do not read this one.

'I dare anything,' Liam Shannon said to Gina, the day he stormed back into her life.
She hadn't seen him for six years - since the day she married his best friend - but now he was suddenly back again in Sydney, making sure she lost the job she needed so desperately, demanding recompense for the pain she had caused so long ago. And now Gina's husband Jim was dead and could no longer stand between them, Liam Shannon was determined to make her his mistress...
Aloha Bride
Julian's proposition came at the wrong time
Alone on what should have been her honeymoon, Robyn felt the tropical paradise of Maui seemed to mock her. Yet she was determined not to be hurt again, and her reaction to Julian was one of anger.
"You came down here thinking you could buy me. And I will not be bought. Not with the great Lassiter name nor your wealth nor power... nor person."
Yet in spite of everything, she found herself wanting to solve Julian Lassiter's problems in a way that was not merely reckless, but positively dangerous!
My thoughts:
Priceless Love
This was so bad it was good, it was soooo cheesy, so over the top, so 80s! And that is NOT a good thing. But I was amused, it was so simple, so silly.
Liam is an asshole. I am not saying that lightly. He stalks her, talks shit to her, ruins her life, is totally obsessed with her. And there is this one line that just made me go all wtf? Omg 80s book! Seriously. You people are whack. He is not a good guy, I would NOT want to be with him, he is creepy in his obsession and omg they NEVER talk to each other.
Gina is the sweet damsel in distress that is so useless and totally lets him dictate what to do. She can not say no, even though she wants too. Sure she has this strange animal attraction to him, but omg you people. I want to kick them both. Especially when she thinks to herself that she if she had wanted to stop she could not had cos he would just have taken what he wanted, great rapey too.
But I read it like in an hour, ha, good laugh
Aloha Bride
So light, cheesy and omg how easy heroines get pregnant! *shakes head* Bang! Preggers.
In this one we have a hero that is all, I can not love again, but I crave you!
And a heroine who is all, one man hurt me, I will never be with anyone.
They are stupid. They love each other, and they live happily ever after.
How on earth did I read these in the olden days? They are so silly. But yes light...and fast

Where I Got It: My Shelf (Given to me by the author/publisher for an honest and unbiased review)
When Grace Hansen finds a box belonging to her beloved grandfather, she has no idea it holds the key to his past—and to long-buried family secrets. In the box are his World War I diaries and a cryptic note addressed to her. Determined to solve her grandfather’s puzzle, Grace follows his diary entries across towns and battle sites in northern France, where she becomes increasingly drawn to a charming French man—and suddenly aware that someone is following her…
Through her grandfather’s vivid writing and Grace’s own travels, a picture emerges of a man very unlike the one who raised her: one who watched countless friends and loved ones die horrifically in battle; one who lived a life of regret. But her grandfather wasn’t the only one harboring secrets, and the more Grace learns about her family, the less she thinks she can trust them.
Oooooh WWI. Such a bloody, bloody war. So many people lost their lives! I'm glad this story shared Martin's tale as well Grace's. It showed his journey as well as Grace's. The author did an amazing job with showing the true brutality of the war and the survivor's guilt. Beautiful job.
Normally I prefer one POV over the other, but for this one, I really liked both. Both had me hooked and I couldn't wait for the continuation of both. The author did a good job with the switching between WWI and the 1990s. Kuddos. It can be tough transitioning.
So many secrets and so many regrets on all sides! Lies, blackmail, secrets, stealing, killing, and so much more! Poor Grace! LOLLL
Poor Martin. :( He really did have a hard time. However, he was a clever man and taught Grace well on how to decipher the secrets he had.
Now, the culprit at the end surprised me for sure. Yes, I did suspect that person....but everyone was on my radar. However, as the story progressed I did have my money on someone else. The culprit did make me sad. I really had hoped it wouldn't be that person. Super bummer....but it did make a lot of sense honestly.
Why was Grandmama/Cynthia was such a B! But I don't understand it fully. Why would Martin stay with her or put up with her being so mean to Grace? You can't help who you love, but he should have put his foot down and told her off. I think she needed a reminder that you can't be a B whenever you wanted. Yes, it did make the story interesting and make it harder for Grace to solve the mystery....but yeah. Not cool.
My only real complaint was the ending after the reveal and whatnot. It did seem to drag on and on. It felt like it was never going to end and I expected more to be revealed, but nothing was.
Pierre was meh to me. He was nice and I'm glad Grace found him....but I guess I wasn't taken in by his charm.
I was utterly hooked from page one. The characters were interesting and I was very involved with both of their stories. I will admit...I teared up a couple of times during Martin's story! THE FEELS DAMMIT! THE FEELS! War is such a nasty, nasty thing especially WWI. WWI was the beginning of the shift of how warfare was done. It was a nasty transition that caused so many people to die on all sides. Super sad. The mystery was good and the culprit surprised me.
I also LOVE THE COVER! Beautiful.
In the end, I highly recommend this for everyone. Yes, there is some historical parts involved, but the author does a good job making it feel real and alive. The mystery and finding out all the secrets was for sure good. The ending did drag on a bit, but the rest of the of the story was fun. I shall stamp this with 4 stars.
This is a fun little writing challenge that Carole and I have come up with! We each challenge each other with the selected theme.
We had such fun last month with the poetry, we decided to do another poetry edition. :D
First...my poem:
The Fallen WWI inspired fantasy poem; continuation from last month's poem by Blodeuedd
Ravens in the distance A dark cloud of despair Blood, rivers of red running by Crying, screaming, dying The Day of the Fallen Last breath of the brave She walks like a ghost Searching, aching, wanting She cries as she stumbles Limbs, broken bodies, rotting A shield, blue and golden A sword glimmering in the sun Help me A whisper in the wind Moving forward Blood in the mud There he lies There her heart breaks She falls down His face so sweet Heart breaking Soul dying One last embrace No more, she says No More Last cry of the Fallen Last day of the Brave Move on, she hears Move on, they say New battles More death No More, she cries No More There she sits As the sun sets As Night comes A new Day enters More, they say
More.
Now, Carole's poem:
How I Missed This Feeling
Inspired by 'Criminal Minds'
by Carole Rae
A welcoming serene smile A light touch. He gently places a kiss On my lips. My nerves racing. Heart pounding. How I have missed This feeling. The room is spinning, We are alone. Should I dare Ask for more? He leads me to the bed And kisses me gently. I feel my cheeks burning And heart beating. He sits next to me and Tangles his hand in my hair. As he kisses me again A swell of pain Raises in my stomach. I look down And blood is pouring. I look up and gasp. His once gentle smile Is now evil And menacing. He cackles as my sight blurs. He whispers, “How I missed this feeling.” And then my world goes black.
The very far future: The galaxy is a drifting wreck of black holes, neutron stars, and chill white dwarfs. The age of star formation is long past. Yet there is life here, feeding off the energies of the stellar remnants, and there is mind, a tremendous galaxy-spanning intelligence each of whose thoughts lasts a hundred thousand years. And this mind cradles memories of a long-gone age when a more compact universe was full of light... The 27th century: Proxima Centauri, an undistinguished red dwarf star, is the nearest star to our sun. How would it be to live on such a world?
My thoughts:
The beginning was a bit slow, but I kept thinking it's Baxter and it got better. I think the problem was that there was this other POV that showed up, not often, not that long, but I just did not care. I was all about the settlers. Oh those were fascinating.
It's a race between China and the rest, and to beat China settlers are sent to Proxima. It takes 4 years for a message to get from there home, and the settlers are really left to fend for themselves. On a strange new world, and well there are So many more things I want to say, but honestly it's just spoilers spoilers.
Proxima is an interesting planet, and there are secrets, and the end, omg, that was freaky! I really need to read part two to see how it all plays out. There are some good secrets in here for sure.
The book is about Yuri who gets sent to Proxima (and stuff goes down and I so want to talk about but I can not.) I loved learning more about the planet and the struggle for the settlers.
The POv of whatever was boring, and I am glad when it showed up it was a few chapters and I skimmed it. I did not really see the point of it. Our solar system is boring.
Conclusion:
In the end, Baxter is a great sci-fi writers and he always comes up with such cool concepts. I need book 2 then.

A memorable coming-of-age story and love story, laced with suspense, which explores a hidden side of the home front during World War II, when German POWs were put to work in a Wisconsin farm community . . . with dark and unexpected consequences.
The war has taken a toll on the Christiansen family. With food rationed and money scarce, Charlotte struggles to keep her family well fed. Her teenage daughter, Kate, raises rabbits to earn money for college and dreams of becoming a writer. Her husband, Thomas, struggles to keep the farm going while their son, and most of the other local men, are fighting in Europe.
When their upcoming cherry harvest is threatened, strong-willed Charlotte helps persuade local authorities to allow German war prisoners from a nearby camp to pick the fruit.
But when Thomas befriends one of the prisoners, a teacher named Karl, and invites him to tutor Kate, the implications of Charlotte’s decision become apparent—especially when she finds herself unexpectedly drawn to Karl. So busy are they with the prisoners that Charlotte and Thomas fail to see that Kate is becoming a young woman, with dreams and temptations of her own—including a secret romance with the son of a wealthy, war-profiteering senator. And when their beloved Ben returns home, bitter and injured, bearing an intense hatred of Germans, Charlotte’s secrets threaten to explode their world.
My thoughts:
I read another book like this with POWs working the fields, and that one ended badly for them so I started this one with a bad feeling.....
Someone needs to pick the cherries. The Christiansen family needs money, food, workers, so yes I got it, either they all starve or get those POWs to help.
Charlotte the mother does not want them there, but at the same time she needs them there. She was rather judgmental and cold at times.
Kate the daughter wants to go to uni, she loves reading and writing, farmlife, not so much. She will have her own adventure.
Thomas, the father, is more in the background, he never wanted to become a farmer, but now here he is.
Charlotte's story was sad. Thomas was bitter, and Kate's story, well that was, it was like it was just thrown there for fun.
Conclusion:
At the end I knew I had enjoyed the book. It was a good book, but then I started to think, I have no good things to say, no bad things. It actually left me pretty cold. So is that good or bad?

Trevelyan and Callie are childhood sweethearts with a taste for adventure, until the fateful day her father discovers them embracing in the carriage house and, in a furious frenzy, drives Trevelyan away in disgrace. Nine long, lonely years later, Trevelyan returns. Callie discovers that he can still make her blood race and fill her life with excitement, but he can't give her the one thing she wants more than anything--himself.
For Trevelyan, Callie is a spark of light in a world of darkness and deceit. Before he can bear to say his last goodbyes, he's determined to sweep her into one last, fateful adventure, just for the two of them.
My thoughts:
Trev and Callie had a thing when they were teens, then he left for 10 years and she was left at the altar a lot, and is now less than a wallflower. Will they ever meet again? Well of course they will and...
He is rich and handsome.
She is a nobody, but does have a big dowry. She also likes bulls.
He may have secrets.
She lives with her cousin and his wife.
They flirt, and how fun they have at it. They way they talked to each other, aye, they were perfect, but those silly idiots! Argghhh, he is all no I can't, and she is all, never mind. Stupid idiots, you two belong together.
BUT, the last 150 pages were like so long, too long, so unnecessary, it could all have been wrapped up in 50 pages. So yes it dragged at the end, I was all, why just not wrap it up? New things happened it was strange. Just end it so we can get that HEA.
Good, even if the end was too long.

Princess Oria has one chance to keep her word and stop her brother’s reign of terror: She must become queen. All she has to do is marry first. And marry Lonen, the barbarian king who defeated her city bare weeks ago, who can never join her in a marriage of minds, who can never even touch her—no matter how badly she wants him to.
To rule is to suffer, but Lonen never thought his marriage would become a torment. Still, he’s a resourceful man. He can play the brute conqueror for Oria’s faceless officials and bide his time with his wife. And as he coaxes secrets from Oria, he may yet change their fate…
With deception layering on deception, Lonen and Oria must claim the throne and brazen out the doubters. Failure means death— for them and their people.
But success might mean an alliance powerful beyond imagining...
My thoughts:
Arghh, 4 days since I read this one and I have not written a review!!! Seriously, this is why I write at once cos I forget what I feel.
Lonen and Oria are married..well soon. But anyway, a political marriage. She needs his image, he needs, well he does not need her, but she needs him. Oh and he wants her, but can not have her, because she can not be with anyone. Sucks being her. No one can touch her cos she feels pain then. But hey maybe they will find a way *hint hint*
But first there is her stupid brother causing trouble. The stupid priestess causing the trouble. The Trom that are, I want to know more there....
And these two who want each other but can not have each other. I really hope they find a way, dunno what the author will do but I am curious!!
Conclusion:
Romance, politics, danger and intrigues. And just two people starting to fall for each other. So meant to be.
More romance in this one, so that was nice.

Where I Got It: Seen at the Theaters
A girl in a small town forms an unlikely bond with a recently-paralyzed man she's taking care of.
TRAILER:
C: So...the movie. What did you think about the cast they had?
B: Well, the guy in the wheelchair did not do much really. GoT blondie was superhappy all the time, hey even I can play superhappy ;) Neville Longbottom was HAWT. Damn. Oh wait...yes it worked, good cast.
C: Mhmmmm he did grow up hot. I was worried about him, but he did do a turn around. He played the boyfriend, Pat, right? Was he an ahole like he was in the book?
B: I would not say he was an ahole in the movie. He was just reeeeeeally focused on his running.
C: What about Lou? How was she portrayed? Was she awkward and have a crazy wardrobe?
B: Such a crazy wardrobe, though some things were cute, some things were sooooo ugly. But she was awkward, happy and clumsy.
C: Now...Will. What about him? While reading I had a very distinct picture in my head. Was he sarcastic and brunette? I honestly pictures James Franco as him. LOLLL I’m not sure who they even casted as the actor.
B: Sam Caflin? He was sad, stared out his window, he did not want her there, but hey I got that. He is stuck in that thing and can’t even lift a finger. He was depressed. I just felt sorry for him. Also...I remember him as blond? Now I have to check that.
C: Honestly...you can’t blame him for being depressed! I would be absolutely miserable. So, in the film, he was completely unable to move? In the book he could move his head and neck a bit. One arm he could move his fingers and wrist.
B: Oh he was a brunette, my bad ;) But his head a little yes, but that was it…
C: Interesting that they made that change! In the book he just couldn’t move the forearm, arm part, so he had to be fed still. I wonder why they did that? Easier in away instead of trying to explain it. Make it sadder? Mhmm. Even though it didn’t need to be sadder. >__>
B: I guess it was easier that he could not move anything, and never would be able to. Sad, depressing, and a movie that made me cry. Sigh, I hate crying movies. How was the book with the crying bit? Gods, it hit me hard in the movie.
C: I was fine until the last part of the last chapter and the epilogue. The rest of the book I had hope. DAMMIT HOPE! But there was until the end and then I cried like a baby. I do have an essential question…..did they include the scene with the tattoos??????? I feel that was essential even though it was like 4 pages.
B: I do not really have an idea what you are talking about...so no.
C: Gah. :/ Maybe it’s going to be a deleted scene. Sighssssss.
B: Now I want to know! But yes I guess they cut a lot.
C: In book exclusive. ;D It was depressingly funny. That is all I will say. But yes, the book was in the POV of Lou. There were a couple of chapters where they branched off and did a few pages of Will’s dad’s and then Lou’s sister. OH! They did a couple of pages of Nathan’s too, which I liked.
B: Just here POV here, I would have liked his but I am sure that would have been painfully depressing. His dad and mum had as much screen time, and her sister was only there for Lou to talk with.
C: Seems about right. Will’s parents had some good “book time” too. Especially the mom. Will’s sister made a couple of appearances, but she was nonessential in my opinion. She was a pain and not very helpful in ANYTHING. Selfish brode. Same with Lou’s sister. I didn’t like her. She was selfish and she was helpful once in a while to Lou, but she was a brat overall.
B: I am sorry...he had a sister? Not here, that is why it was so sad. Their only child paralysed and depressed. This really was Lou’s movie, her pain, which was kind of bad, others were sad too.
C: Yes, yes. In the book he had a sister Georgiana (spell?). However, he might as well had been a single child. Woman moved to Australia and was “too busy” to visit. She came like twice to see him. But yes, the same in book, it was Lou’s book. At first I was annoyed with her, but I did end up liking her and feeling bad. She liked him alot and she really wanted to help.
B: I felt she was not that smart, she got really surprised to hear that he would never walk again (or at least be better in some areas). Omg, that is what the name means. Silly woman.
C: Yeaaaaa Lou wasn’t the brightest of the bright. However, I think that was part of her charm. She was probably book smart in school, but she is naive. I’m glad she had some flaws. Made me like her. I think that is why Will liked her too in the end. He had the “perfect” girlfriend and see how that ended up???? Poor Will.
B: In the movie I saw it another way, he had clearly chased her away, and I could understand her leaving. Who would want to stay with someone who does not want to talk to you. It must have been heartbreaking for her too. But yes he was sad about it, but I also think he did it cos he knew they could have no future. It was wrong towards her.
C: Maybe in the movie the ex tried harder. But from what it sounded like in the book, she tried for a couple of months and then booked it. LIKE LADY! He JUST became this way….he needs time. And then she found comfort with his ex bestie. Way to add salt to the wound. There wasn’t another dude you could have been with? Why the bestie? >_<
B: Here I just assumed they find comfort with each other. It was never said how they broke up. I just got the feeling cos that is how he was towards everyone else.
C: He was an arse to everyone in the book too. But the ex left only after a couple of months. I would have stuck around and told him to shut up. LOL But now….the ending. Without spoilers...was it what you expected?
B: Sort of yes...that is all I am saying. I just did not expect such a sad ending. A heartbreaking ending. I really do not know what I hoped for.
C: Same. I had hope, but a part of me knew there was little to zero hope. It did not end how I thought. Poor Lou. I do want to see if she does push forward and do what Will asked her to do.
B: She brought it on herself, she was awfully naive about everything. But I can not blame her.
C: You can’t help who you fall for. Honestly, Will helped her become a stronger and more bold young lady. Helped her realize dreams and all that. The title fits and now I understand it.
B: It does fit...sad sad sad. Who would not cry watching this movie or reading the book.
C: Heartless creatures would not! At least a single tear is required! I do want to watch the movie pretty badly. The book was AMAZING! The beginning was a wee slow, but after she meets Will it became addicting. I had to read forward. I’m honestly giving the book a 5. What about the movie??
B: Eh, a 3. It was good, but it was not amazing or anything. A 3 is good :) You know me. I would not read the book, I can not go back. But if I read a book I can watch the movie but not the other way around.
C: I’m the same sometimes. However, I do recommend the book. The book was really good. LOL.
B: I do wonder...damn library for only having one copy. That is evil. I wonder how the audio is since none of us did that.
C: I listened to some of the audio….but it wasn’t moving fast enough for me, so I shut it off and read the book. LOL No patience, that is why it is rare for me to listen to the audio. xD
B: Aha, interesting. Good to know.
C: :D So...any more questions, thoughts, concerns, or mentions? I’m out of coffee D:
B: Not really. It was a good movie. But be prepared to cry, so have tissues nearby.
C: Same with the book. Tissues and a long night...you will not stop reading x_x
B: What next then? I believe it is my turn. No crying book this time ;)
C: LOL yes. No sad book. It is your turn. I do apologize for making you cry ;D Maybe a comedy….or romance or actiony. LOL All you girl!
B: At least I have seen it now, since everyone have been talking about it.
C: Yup! I read it...now I have to see it. The end?
B: Omg, wait, there is a book 2?!
C: Maybe it is a continuation of Lou’s story?????!!!!! *looking it up*
B: It is called After you. Her story continues......
C: Right. Yes. I knew about it. But I didn’t know, know. LOL Yes. It continues on with Lou and her life after. I need to read it.
B: Interesting...the library does have one English copy….maybe we should do this for next month?
C: I’m fine with it. :D Or do we want to do a different book for Sept and save that October? Maybe give you time to read the first one. Hehehehe
B: Sure, i will keep an eye out for it (someone had it). The end :D
The world has become a battleground in a war which no side is winning. But for those determined to retain power, the prolonged stalemate cannot be tolerated so desperate measures must be taken.
Max Halloran has no idea. He's living the brief and glorious life of a hunter-killer pilot. He's an ace in the air, on his way up through the ranks, in love, and with his family's every need provided for in thanks for his service, Max has everything . . .
. . . right up until he hears something he shouldn't have, and refuses to let it go. Suddenly he's risking his life and the lives of all those he cares about for a secret which could expose corruption at the highest levels, and change the course of the war.
One man, one brief conversation . . . a whole world of trouble . . .
My thoughts:
It's sci-fi, but at the same time, there is not a lot of sci-fi, but at the same time it's everywhere. Because when it's on it's on! It's Top Gun with dragons, but to be fair I can not remember a single thing from that movie so maybe it's wrong to compare those two. Let us begin.
There are dragons, but see they are not really dragons. It's alien DNA spliced with other to create these things that you can fly in. Live in (oh that was freaking insane). And they need to to fight for control of earth. Because as we can see today we are using too much of our resources, and in this future it's a constant war to get more to feed your inhabitants.
A lot of the book is aerial battles, it's very heavy military sc-fi, it always take me some time to get into because I tend to get into that easier by watching than reading. Lots going on at the same time, and what a cool movie that would make.
But there is more than aerial battles. Holloran, a pilot, learns something he should not learn. Conspiracy alert. A pilot's life is also really short since that whole sitting in your dragon, hearing it's mind will make you crack.
I would have liked to learn more about the alien DNA. Since there are no aliens here, but the whole aliens has been here thing that hits you and explains one thing was fascinating.
Conclusion:
Battles in the sky, a country using their own as fodder for war. Insane pilots, and one that just wont let it go. It was innovative and cool
But I did have a hard time this time with the whole military thing. Mostly cos of the many battles.
