Troubled young Fawn Bluefield seeks a life beyond her family's farm. But on the way to the city, she encounters a patrol of Lakewalkers, nomadic soldier-sorcerers from the northern woodlands. Feared necromancers armed with mysterious knives made of human bone, they wage a secret on-going war against the scourge of the "malices," immortal entities that draw the life out of their victims, enslaving human and animal alike. It is Dag--a Lakewalker patroller weighed down by past sorrows and present responsibilities--who must come to Fawn's aid when she is taken captive by a malice. They prevail at a devastating cost--unexpectedly binding their fates together as they embark upon a remarkable journey into danger and delight, prejudice and partnership . . . and perhaps even love.

My thoughts:
I guess I expected epic fantasy, not fantasy romance. Not that I don't like that, it's just, there was a lot of talking and wondering and fluffiness. Now I sound horrid, I still enjoyed it all.

There were a few things that bothered me though, Fawn is so short that she is mistaken for a child, Dag sees her boobs and gets that she is a woman. He thinks of her as a childwoman and honestly that was a bit creepy, not mentioning that we do not know his age..which was, yeah.

But ok let's not think about that. Let's just think about a woman meeting a man. Man saves her and cares for her, and slowly they fall in love. All while she learns about his people.

The first part is more filled since there they fight bad things, but then they get to this hotel and things slow down.

But the world is interesting, and I wonder how things will work out for these two. I enjoyed it and read it really quickly and then I cursed someone who had borrowed part 2 ;)

  1. Yea, the childwoman thing sounds creepy. Other than that, this sounds like an interesting read.

  2. I don't know that I could have gotten past the thinking she was a child then seeing boobs to realize she isn't---puberty can give you boobs at 12 so that would stick with me *sigh*

  3. Hmmmm. Sounds rather...interesting. That guys kind of sounds creepy. Oh well.

  4. Not sure it is for me. But definitely interesting.

  5. A child woman? Hm. That definitely brings to mind some disturbing imagery! I would hate for people to think I was a child then look down at my chest and go "oh! you're a woman". O_o

  6. Glad you liked it, but I am not tempted yet. Perhaps after your second review.

  7. Naida
It was a bit creepy yes, but well...oh I do not know. Can't blame her if she is short

I did not think about that, ok gross, what an old perv!

    Haha, he is nice...just..old

  8. Vivi
I'll read more and you will see :)

And here it was all cos a torn dress. It was just creepy.
She has boobs, it must be ok

    I'll keep you updated

  9. Childwoman?? yea I don't know about that part, but the fact that you cursed when book 2 was borrowed means you liked it just enough :)

  10. Childwoman doesn't sound good - but I do like sparring relationships - especially when they first meet! :-)

  11. JG
    I wanted to know what happened when...oh I can't say more ;)

She was short, he was tall, let's just call him an idiot

  12. Sounds OK. I do like the cover.

  13. He sees her as a childwoman? Yeah, that does sound creepy. :/

  14. A fantasy romance which is fluffy? Nah. Have you really written 'fluffy'? I can't believe it!

A short woman who can be mistaken for a child? Hmm...go to China and you won't have a problem with this anymore. ;p

  15. "talking and wandering around and fluffiness" - LOL! :)

  16. I'm not sure this is my kind of book, but it sounds like an interesting read.

  17. Oh I would have thought epic too. Like you not that romance fantasy isn't good, but going in thinking one thing and getting the other, well it's hard. Thanks!

  18. Ana
Do not faint now! ;) But yes I find books too fluffy too, not romance though, that must be the fluffiest of the fluffy kingdom fluff, whatever.
But fantasy, that need to be epic, sure there can be romance. But all these feelings and talking. I need fighting, war and severed heads

  19. Sounds like it had some good points but the childwoman aspect definitely makes things uncomfortable for me.

  20. Dana
Seems book 1 and 2 is part of one bigger cover. I had not noticed before

Yup, you can see why it was creepy

Hihi, what can I say, that was the book

    It was :)

I had hoped for epic, and yes fantasy romance is good, but I seldom truly fall for romance. Yes I liek it, but I never fall madly in love like with fantasy

It was creepy and..well it was even more creepy later in way

  21. The cover remindsme of fantasy books from the 90s! You must have enjoyed it somewhat, seeing how you were cursing out that pesky book reader!

  22. Staci
It ended all good and all, but still there was something that is happening and I hate not knowing ;)

  23. I like this author's voice in her Chalion books. Loved that series! But I couldn't get into this one :(
