A Dance with Danger - Jeannie Lin

A promise sworn on the edge of a sword…

After a failed assassination attempt on a corrupt general, Bao Yang is a wanted man. Taking refuge with an ally, Yang accidentally compromises the man's daughter when they're discovered alone. To save her honor, he must marry the beautiful Jin-mei immediately!

In Yang's arms, Jin-mei feels alive for the first time. She's determined not to lose him, even if it means joining his perilous mission… But when she realizes just how destructive Yang's path could be, can she convince him that their life together could be so much sweeter than revenge?

My thoughts:
These are so fun! China over a thousand years ago. Romance, danger, fun! There is nothing like it. I have said it before, but yes what I like the best is the fact that it is set in China. It's different. It's fresh. It's good.

In this one former rebel leader Yang is on the run. He is seen with a woman. Her dad gets mad and boom! They are married. But Jin-mei does not mind. She wants more from life, and he is hot. But then there is the whole I am on the run, I can't have a wife thing.

Sure they are married, but they get to know each other after that. They fall in love after they have met and it was a nice journey to see. Also there is danger as people are after him. I do like romance and danger. I even liked quiet village life (they went though a village), because it was new to me.

Conclusion:
This is a different sort of historical romance. Broaden your horizon, and visit China. There is romance, swords and dangers to be had.

My thoughts:
Do you know what I like most about this book? China. Over a thousand years ago. Romance. I mean what was the last book you read that took place then and there? Mine was, well ok it was another Lin book. But before that, nada. I love that it's new and yes new, different, exciting.

This one is about Lin Feng, who is in a bit of trouble. She was taught the art of the sword, and is an excellent sword dancer. But she has also been in the wrong company.

Han is a thief catcher and he is tracking her. He is awesome at what he does and will find her anywhere.

She tries to run, he goes after her. The more he chases the more he learns about her. But what will happen? He follows the law, she has broken it. It does seem impossible for them to be together. They do have to fight for it (as one of them wants to run.) It's not easy and as the situation got even more complicated I did wonder how it could work out. But as we all know it's a romance so there is  a HEA and I was very happy with how it all turned out.

I also saw who the next book is about..intriguing.

If you want a change in your historical romance diet, then do give this one (or any of her books a try). And, if you are happy with what you got then do still try them ;)

Conclusion;
I enjoyed it :)

Novellas: Capturing the Silken Thief, Single Wolf Female

**Jeannie Lin's novella introducing the pleasure quarter known as the North Hamlet, the setting of The Lotus Palace***

Tang Dynasty China, 823 A.D.
Musician Jia needs a valuable book of poems by a famous courtesan to buy her freedom...and she believes Luo Cheng has taken it. Her attempt to steal the book from him fails, but the tall and powerful scholar unexpectedly offers to help her quest! But when they finally find the book--and the arousing poems and artwork inside--Jia's longing for freedom is replaced with a new kind of desire for Cheng....

My thoughts:
It was good, but not as good as the book I read by her. That one was really good. I think the problem for me is that China is so fascinating, cos how any romances do I read set in China...that would be none at all. So I want to experience all of that. And with a longer running romance so it does not become all too sudden.

Still it was good cos it was still China during the 800s. Strange and new, I loved it.

She needs a book, he needs to study. They fall in lust. The end. Now I want to read those full lenght books.

Alice Savage needs an alpha – any alpha – to prevent her pack from being usurped by the lecherous Roscoe. As a last resort, she signs up for the Midnight Liaisons dating service, never expecting that she’d find the alpha she seeks. She certainly didn’t expect Jackson Wilder, a laid back, sexy-as-sin outsider who claims to be an alpha.

But Alice has a problem that most female wolf alphas don’t — she’s a virgin. And the female alpha of a wolf pack always belongs to a male alpha. Luckily for her, Jackson’s utterly gorgeous and willing to take things slow. But is he alpha enough to help her save her pack…or is he too easy-going to be the man she needs?

My thoughts:
This is a novella from the Midnight Liaisons series. Alice needs an alpha. She is a strong alpha herself but wolves needs two alphas and an idiot asshat is trying to get in on the action. So what else to do than to try a dating agency and find a cooler alpha.

In comes Jackson, sexy sweet Jackson. And tension grows as Alice both want him and wants to take it easy as she is a virgin.

It was a nice novella that never felt too short. I do like this series.

Review: My Fair Concubine - Jeannie Lin

My Fair Concubine
The Nobleman Who Turned a Tea Girl Into a Princess...
Yan Ling tries hard to be servile—it's what's expected of a girl of her class. Being intelligent and strong-minded, she finds it a constant battle.

Proud Fei Long is unimpressed by her spirit—until he realizes she's the answer to his problems. He has to deliver the emperor a "princess." In two months can he train a tea girl to pass as a noblewoman?

Yet it's hard to teach good etiquette when all Fei Long wants to do is break it, by taking this tea girl for his own...

My thoughts:
I liked this one for the simply reason that it was so different from the historical romance that I have read before. I loved going back to China 800 AD and experiencing something totally new. The clothes, the manners everything needed to transport me there.

The story is a take on my fair lady as Fei Long needs a"princess" and fast. So he takes on Yan Ling and tries to teach her etiquette and everything else needed. She is to be a peace bride and sent away to distant lands. The whole princess part is not really true as the Emperor has found ways to cheat sending his own daughters and instead he can make a high ranking nobleman's daughter a princess. Still Yan Ling has a long way to go, or at least cheat her way through as what would her family know in the end.

Yan Ling saw a way to a new life and who can blame her. She is also strong and speaks her mind. Even if she tries her best not to. While our hero Fei Ling is quiet, strong, proud and wants to the best for his family so they will not be ruined.

And of course they fall in love, but slowly, and it takes time as they are from two different worlds. They are careful about their true emotions as they should be. It's a delicate dance as they both have their duty to fulfill and that is not to love each other.

I really must read more by her after this. I wish all historical romances could be this different, new and wonderful. I fear I have been stuck in regency land way too long, or playing with Highlanders.

Conclusion:
A wonderful story in a rich setting.
