So my friend decided this was the movie of the evening to watch. I like horror films and I like horror films with some comedy. They do not list this as a parody. In all honesty though…it really was a comedy with some bloody parts and some creepy men riding around. 

The story follows these three men who are hunting people down for their restaurant and morgue services. Honestly…a clever idea that ensures money made and money saved. Clever, brutal men. 

But yes, this was pretty bloody and scary, especially for the time period. I believe it was in the 1960s that this came out. I found it more creepy and funny at the same time. 

The film doesn’t take itself too seriously. There is melodrama, ridiculous scenes, stupid jokes, and hilarious moments. Ooooo Leg of Lamb….my goodness. The most hilarious part was when one of the men was chasing a girl up some stairs. I won’t say more, but I was on the floor!

A silly, but creepy old-time movie. A good one for Halloween if you need a lighter horror film that will make you chuckle. I’ll give this 5 stars. Why? It was stupid, but perfect in every way! 

What is there really to say? I am of course a lover of books, poetry, movies, plays, and music. Nothing is better than enjoying a cup of tea and immersing yourself in another world and forgetting about the world for just a little bit. It is based on a famous Nova Scotian painter. She married this real idiot. Omg that man. OMG, he was a caveman. But then again, she gave him no choice, ok that sounds bad. But she moves in to share his house, he is being a real d*ck and caveman. And later she is all, we should marry. Omg, she played him! And he does, so she gets a man, I guess she wanted that and to have something. But still, he was such an idiot. I wished she could have fooled someone better ;)

Sorry, feeding S. Here :D I will just jump right in. You picked a great movie. Omg, we can actually discuss things here, but first

I will give spoilers, I have to. SO let us begin

It would be IMPOSSIBLE not to spoil a couple of things. SO much to discuss. FIRST. OMG!!! I cried at the end. Happy and sad tears.

I could not cry, I was too mad. Rage rage against the world!!!!!!!!

Maybe it helped that I didn’t watch the last 20 mins until a couple of hours later so I was able to cool off. But F that town. It should burn!!! Rose was such a good girl and they ruined her.

I was all wtf is your problem!?!?! That freaking priest was like stalking her and everyone gave her the eye. He had a problem. Not her fault. Oh and then, omg, I will smite thee! How could he write a letter like that?!

Ugh! That priest! Everyone had seen the scene he made and yet they still blamed her because she was “brave” and looked men in the eye. >_> WHAT! Luckily this was a movie and not a book...I would’ve thrown it. I can’t pick up the TV and throw it hahaha.

Though they sure made it real, cos we all know a Catholic priest has no faults. So it could never be his fault, it was clearly always her fault. And it made me sad and angry. He ruined her life. All those years, all her life. It broke me.

Of course they looked the other way and blamed her. Her aunt was a piece of crap too. How dare she??????????? Yes. Poor Rose. All those years. I can’t even imagine. They made her crazy in that place. The things she went through...I don’t know how she survived.

F that aunt. F her to hell! How could she sign that? But then the priest told her and he is God’s messenger on earth. Sigh. WHat a horrid place to live in. And yes it broke her and those scenes were the worst, because I knew she would spend the rest of her life there.

I loved the way they shared the story. It was well done. Even though you know that is where she ends up there is hope. You hope she gets out. I huzzahed at her attempt at escaping! So sad, so sad.

It was so hopeful when she felt better cos of her baby, but, no, I mean I knew she never got out. But yes I did hope. They kept the “suspense” up. One never knows, even when one knows.. F that priest! I can not say it enough. Now I want to cry! :/

But yes they did it so well.

I never faltered in my belief of her innocence especially when we got to see how much to loved Michael. OOOOH MICHAEL! *stifles tears* I hate that priest and that town. I liked the ending a lot and I did not expect it….but it was bittersweet for sure.

Sniff, Michael! I did not expect that, I thought perhaps the priest would do something. I am glad she found him, even if not for long. Also wtf townspeople! Going after Michael like that, I know Ireland did not want to be on any side the English were but come on! The only guy I could forgive is the guy playing Kili in The Hobbit cos he is so dang cute.

Was that the one who danced with Rose?

Yes, I know I know, but he was so cute! Not like that creepy friend of his!

Okay! I couldn’t remember which one he played. Yes. He seemed to actually like her, but when she turned him down he was all cool like a SANE PERSON. The priest had serious issues. >_>

So good. What are the chances though??? But I guess it makes sense. Michael helped I feel in some way.

Yes, what were the odds ;) But I liked it. I was all FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and that nurse was wonderful!

A part of me hoped that it was reversed and it the was the nurse. She loved Rose so much. *sniff* so beautiful.

What did you think of the bible part? I liked it. It was clever. I wonder how long it took them to trust her with a pen?

Well...she had her entire life so :/ But I liked it, her whole life in there. I am glad this was one of the books you mentioned. I read Barry before, I think it was a WW1 about an Irish soldier and omg so sad.

Her name does sound familiar….I might have read something in the past. I want to read this book someday. My heart can’t handle it right now though. Maybe we’ll get more details? I want to know the fate of that dang priest. I hope the dad punched him the nose when he told him the wrong he did.

The book I read was The long long way, but there is no review so it must be pre Goodreads, dang...but I remember it being good, and cos of that I have this book down as audio so it seems the library has it on audio and I wanted it one day. Maybe more details, maybe not

Mhmmm. But I just looked at Goodreads there are more books about the McNulty family. Maybe there will a story about her parents and the nurse and the guy (blanking on his name). :D

CHILD!!!! BAD!!!!! She will learn one day. But yes. I want to read the book and maybe some of the other ones in the series……..someday. My heart can’t handle revisiting that sad story.

I have down Days without end for a librarybook so maybe we should give it a go one time and see if he is still good at writing :D

A movie that was hard to pin down. It was not like I thought it was amazing! But it was good and dealt with a harsh reality. So for that is worth it

Well this was another rather dull one. Farm workers finally go on a strike. And totally right! Damn the Man! They did not save any of their wages, because all went back to their bosses and people were even in debt to them. Strike strike strike!

Why was Selena Gomez in this one?

Franco was being Franco. That kid was good though.

But yes a rather dull movie. I can not recommend it.

Carole's Saturday movie: Godzilla vs Destroyah

Awwww I sometimes forget how much I do like Godzilla. That lovable monster destroying lives and buildings with not a thought in the world. So fun. LOLLL I always enjoy the monster more than the people’s POV even though the dang thing just roars, spits fire, and destroys buildings and other more evil monsters. 

Yes, it has been a while since I’ve actually sat down and watched a full one of these movies beginning to end. In my youth, I only watched what I caught on TV or at someone else’s house. They are fun and this one was a lot of fun, but darker. Very dark.

But yes, this is a 90’s movie so the cheese is still there in regards to effects. However, they are SO much more advanced compared to the older ones. Also, the acting is good and I watched the English version and the dub was not horrible. 

Back to what I was talking about earlier. This film was decently dark. It was really sad and I admit I cried! GAH! NO! I hated that baddie SO much!!!!!!!! EVIL, EVIL BASTARD! *shakes fist* 

I hated what happened to the little Godzilla. He did nothing to no one!! He was a simple, kind-hearted monster. HE IS JUST A BABY DARNIT! HE LEGIT HAD HURT NO ONE! HE HAD A CHANCE WHEN THERE WAS A BEACH FULL OF PEOPLE AND HE LEGIT JUST WATCHED THE PEOPLE FOR A MINUTE AND KEPT GOING!!!! EVERYONE LOVES HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!! GAH! I can’t say what happened, but it made me so sad. 

I felt SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad for the big Godzilla too. Poor thing was in so much pain. It hurt me to watch it suffer so much. 

This was fun. With these older movies, you have to take it with a grain of salt. Cheesy effects and the dubbing isn’t also the greatest. I prefer watching the original language and just reading the translation, but alas, beggars can’t be choosers. 

I can’t give this a full 5 stars like I want. I physically can’t, because it was too sad and baby Godzilla was a victim just like the people. I’ll give it 4 stars. The cheese factor was at a minimal, acting was done well, and I actually enjoyed the people’s stories. It was dark and the baddie was certainly a baddie indeed. I hated it, but it made the story scary and fun. Wasn’t sure how it was going to be defeated! 

Carole's Saturday Movie: The Last Jedi

Let me get out of the way and say this first….I am not a huge Star Wars fan. Not at all. I actually found the majority of the old movies boring. This is the first Star Wars film I watched from beginning until end. All the rest I have watched pieces here and there. Normally I would walk into the room with a friend or family member watching and I would watch from wherever they were until the end. So yes, not a huge fan here…so take that into mind before reading my review. 

I really, really liked this film. This wasn’t a cut-and-paste of one of the past movies and that made me happy. I know a lot of people worried and they kept their word. Sure there were a couple similar parts scattered throughout the movie. But it felt fresh overall. 

This was for sure lighter in a lot of ways compared to a lot of the past movies. However, there were some dark moments that kept it from being light and fun. There was a nice balance between light and fun and dark and serious. I also really enjoyed the little jokes throughout the movie. They made me smile and chuckle. Heck…even serious, sad Luke got a couple good moments. 

The biggest joy I found in the movie was Kylo Ren. I know I am getting a lot of “huhs” right now…but I enjoyed this character. I didn’t like him in the movie before this, but after learning about him some more…I realized he is one complex character. I felt he was very 2D in the last film, but this one the writers really did some magic and now he is one of the most complex characters I have seen in a while. The internal conflict he is having is tearing him apart. I loved it. Well…I feel bad and I reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly want him to come back to good side, but I enjoyed seeing him on screen battle himself, his enemies, and his feelings. Very good. On a shallower note…I think he is hot ;) 

Finn was better...Rose was a hoot and a nice edition...Rey is just Rey (a certain character is in lurve with her it makes me a hair jelly)....Holdo was annoying at first, but she turned into a badass at the end...Poe was cute and funny...Leia seems deflated and tired...Luke was annoying until the end...and the rest of the cast was just there. I did enjoy Kylo's commander because I feel like he is going to be a problem for Kylo later on. A character potential. 

The little creatures were cute. I liked the little puffin-seal things. I want one to stick by Chewie’s side. I know some people thought it was too much, but I adored all the cuteness. More darkness is always nice, but I felt there was a good balance in this one. I fear the next movie is going to get REALLY, REALLY dark so I will take this cuteness while I can. But yes...a little more blood is always good for the soul. 

There were some scenes and parts that made me sigh and roll my eyes. I can’t say WHAT precisely without giving out some spoilers. But some parts were indeed cheesy and not realistic. People will defend those parts, “BUT THE FORCE!” >_> meh is my reply to that.

I also hated the ending. Sure…I get what they did, but NO. Not cool. Well…it was cool, but the result was NOT OKAY! 

In the end, I am actually curious to watch the next film. I wouldn’t mind going to the theater to watch it again. Maybe this was the film to turn me into a super fan. Well…maybe not…I have no plans on rewatching past movies willingly. Haha. I shall give this…mhmmmm….4 stars.

I like the way it was animated and origami magic was so cool!

I did not think I would like it as much as I did. A really good story that surprised me. Funny and touching.

Oh , you are here already?! Lol, I remember last time.

LOL! Yessss. Hopefully we don’t have a repeat of the issues I had last month. That was brutal for suuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeee. So? Are you excited? Our first movie review in a while!

Hell, yeah! We are starting of with a bang! BOOM! OMG. The quietest movie of all time. LOL

Yess...yesss. This was not the most active movie ever. I had to watch this in two sittings because I couldn’t stay awake the first half.

I watched it in two also, but only cos Baby S needed a nap. But I honestly do not know if I could have taken 2 HOURS! Of that in one sitting. I mean, 2! Were they trying to kill us?

This did NOT need to be 2 hours long. Heck...I think they were trying to kill us. There was not enough material in her life for 2 hours. They skipped over the Civil War part of her life which I am assuming would’ve been more...entertaining?

There are good movies that I feel are too long at 2, and this, omg….her life was not that exciting. And yes like you said at least the War would have brought some action into play. But it was more Ok, there is a war going on. Sad how many died. The end. Sigh. Ok so that was meant to kill us then. Noted.

She was a good writer, but her life was so boring because she secluded herself. I did enjoy her wittiness. She had a talent for it. But ugh. Just not a subject that needed 2 hours.

If I had been the editor there, cut cut cut! Instead we got 2 hours of her drinking tea and talking. The entire movie taking place in the house and yes once we saw the garden and road.

Oo! Don’t forget...we saw her in school for just a minute and then her father whisked her away back to the house and there we stayed. I would’ve loved to see her friend’s story. I can’t remember her name...but the bitchy one who got married and Emily fell apart because she was convinced getting married was the same as dying? I liked that lady. She was fun.

Bitchy lady was my hero! I would have loved a movie about her. Dang that wit of hers, and the things she said. In that time! You go girl!

She certainly kept Emily on her toes. I think Emily needed someone like that to keep her in line. Maybe if the friend was able to stick around more than Emily might’ve made it out of the house and enjoyed life.

Though we never got any notion of a time frame so for me it felt like everything happened in a year. SO  when did her friend leave? When did Emily die? Who knows? Sigh again, a boring life she led. Pretty poems she wrote. Alas, all things must come to an end, an end that should not take 2 hours.

I did some research while watching (I was that bored). And the movie spans yearsssssssssss, but it honestly felt like and looked like maybe 5 years. It just all was boring. I enjoyed the poems she would read out loud. I like her poetry. Ooo! I also really liked the scene when Emily caught her brother cheating on his wife. That made me laugh. Hahaha Emily destroyed them verbally.

The poems were nice and the beautiful way they talked. There was joy in every word. I also did not get how her sister was so cool with what happened. He cheated! Ugh, asshole.

The sister annoyed me to no ends. She was like Jane from PP but on steroids. “YOU DON’T KNOW THEIR SOULS!!! EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES!” >_>

Silly woman! He wanted some action since his wife was dead in bed, or so assume since she told Emily that she had not wanted to marry. That does not mean you should cheat man! Poor woman.

Oh yes. I remember that. Ugh. Still no excuse to cheat. I hate how the demonized marriage and love and etc in this. Why did Emily think marriage was a death sentence? You really want to be shackled to your parents forever?? Forever sneaking writing at 3 am so you don’t upset your father??? In your OWN home you can what you want. I just couldn’t wrap my head around her feelings on the subject.

She would have had to find a man who was cool with it, but then search! I am sure you could have found one. There had to be ONE good man on the planet who was cool with his wife writing poems. Instead she wrote at 3 AM and was happy about it. Sure Emily, keep telling yourself that. Keep telling yourself that it’s awesome to belong to your dad and then your brother.

Oh and she did have that weird fascination with the ugly priest, sorry priest, but you were not pretty. Her sister was all he is so handsome and I expected someone like that and then...no.

He was not pretty at all. But yes. There has to be ONE dude in town. But locking yourself up in your room until you die is not a way to find a man. There was that one guy who liked her but she refused to say hello. She just insulted him and he left. Sighs. I think she was convinced she would be happier alone or something. Goodness knows. That is fine to be happy like that, but don’t rain on everyone’s parades when they declare they are to marry or want to marry.

Oh yes that dude! She should have married him for sure. But Emily liked being a recluse, oh well.

To each their own, I guess. But yes. This should’ve just been an hour TV show special or something. Not enough material in her life since she was a recluse and died a painful death. WHICH that scene bothered me. Like seriously...ouch. Knock her out or something.

One hour, 25 min, show us some war scenes. Hey show us a church scene! Anything except that house. They went on how good the pastor was so I was all, show me! And then the end. And let her die with a little dignity

I think the writer was convinced that since this movie is about Emily we have to follow Emily the ENTIRE time. No...I would’ve liked some scenes outside of the house and maybe getting an outsiders view on her. Someone unbiased would’ve added so much more to the story honestly.

Or show us how her brother hooked up with his new lady love, or wife for that matter. But nope, Emily Emily Emily.

Yes, the writing needed some editing for sure. The actors were okay. Emily did well as a recluse, tortured, writer of poetry.

Aye, they all did well. But it was a movie in need of some serious editing. Or they just wanted to show us how dull her life really was. And you did it! Congrats.

Congrats. It made me appreciate that I am not a recluse and I get out of my room. BUT I prolly won’t be remembered...so I guess Emily wins in the end. HAHAHAHA

I do not recommend it either... unless you are a serious Emily fan and then hack at it. So yes, I believe that is the end :)
